Good score Lyle. I am looking forward to the detailed part 2 video. I have never perceived you as a braggart. You are bringing your love of the trades to us.
Anyone who has followed you for even a short time would know you're not bragging by videoing and talking about your auction finds. I think it's great that your still going out and looking for deals and sometimes bringing them home! Thank you for bringing us along for the ride!
Bragging is the furthest thing from my mind when I see you in these auction plunder videos. I live vicariously through you, as on-site auctions are getting pretty rare around here. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Nice team work with your wife. Love these videos. I’m always looking for a good auction but I have never came across one like that. I usually have to go to machine shop closings
Your auction videos are some of my favorites. You are not bragging, you are just enjoying life. Keep it up and keep searching for those treasures. Stay safe and have a good weekend.
Lyle: I know this is a bit late for your rainy day buys,. Get a large cardboard box, and a cheap hair dryer. Cut 2 inch holes, one in the side and one in the top of the box. Put all the towel dried tools in the box and close it up. Point the hair dryer into the side hole and turn it on low. Let everything "cook" for an hour or so. Sure worked for me. Thanks for the video. Jon
Enjoyment from whatever makes you happy is what it is all about. I read in book years ago, there is no such thing as bad weather only a bad choice of clothing.
I've never thought of you Mr.Pete as a person who is haughty or a bragger . Not in any way, maybe viewers like me who are serious about tools. Find our selves slightly envious of your stunning collection of tools
Thanks for sharing. I never thought you were "bragging", I always felt you were just sharing what is around you and maybe inspire some of us to look beyond ebay or craigslist.
No way I'm going to turn this video off! That "Second Bedside Reader" value would pay for your total auction cost and leave money in your pocket! All those woodworking tools, nice!!! We don't get that kind of stuff to buy down here in Texas. Thanks for sharing! Ken
What was in the big red toolbox marked Starrett? Parker Shotguns were made by the same folks that made the Parker vise! I am not a knife guy but the Blackie Collins book might be an interesting one? Bragging, no need to brag about it raining ;)
Lyle, thanks for sharing your auction videos with the class. I love seeing all the beautiful tools. The real gem of the day as you already know is your wonderful bride helping you dry everything off 👍. I wish you didn’t feel the need to make your disclaimer about not bragging but then I guess you may have a few disgruntled students that complain about everything! All the best to you and your family this holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Norm in Arizona
I love watching your scores from the auctions you attend. I wish we had more of these over here that cater for the machinist. Great to see Mrs Tubalcain in the shop helping you clean and oil. I’m sending my wife over for some training lol 😂. Warm regards, Aaron
Fantastic haul. Not sure why you do the brag disclaimer but love watching this content. Please keep it up and thanks for all your efforts and to Mrs Pete 222 for the assistance in Your cleaning up of your haul.
Great haul! "How to make knives" was THE book for aspiring knifemakers to own, for sure. The section by R.W. Loveless would be worth a look for you as he had an extensive machinist background. My own copy is well-thumbed, for sure. Looking forward to part 2. Thanks, Mr. Pete! :-)
Mr. Pete, please I don't find these types of videos to be boastful, I find them very educational and informative. The best educational I have had in 35 years. Thank you for sharing these with us.
It's astounding how much measuring equipment was made over the years. Even more mind boggling is how much of it got relatively little or no use and sold off at auction years later. However I am thankful for it, I have saved many dollars buying the tools I need to work second hand. Cheers Mr Pete. PS.... A poncho? You mean to tell me they still have those? Heh Heh!
You're lucky you live in an area that has these auctions. Looks like lots of fun. Suggestion though: how about sharing the wealth and doing another EBAY auction on the excess stuff you acquired....you can even make a few $$$. Just a thought...I'm in
I’m looking forward to the second video. Also, I have never believed you were bragging. Your spirit and demeanor has always been one of sharing your experience. Let me say, I would bet that many who watch are inspired to go to auctions because of your videos and then they too are enjoying the fun and in some cases rewards. You’re a good man Charlie Brown!!! (My grandma used to say that)
These auctions/treasure hunts are what keeps your blood pumping. Nothing more fun than when you are bidding on items. Even when you don’t come out as high bidder. I’m an auction nut myself. Plenty of times I’ve been caught up in the action and paid more than I wished for stuff I didn’t need. Keep doing what you are doing Mr. Pete.
I love tools as much as the next guy but I don't see the need for 20 1" mics in a one man shop. Your family is going to have one hell of an auction some day. I only buy things now that I use on a regular basis in my old age.
Wow Mr Pete I can’t believe that the auction folks didn’t have pop ups canapés to keep the items dry looks like you did alright though thanks for taking us along
Great way to start a day, a cup of coffee and a Mr. Pete auction video. Seeing those Starrett tools getting wet is heart breaking. Love the auction video's.
An Edsel Maintenance Manual!!!!!! See... some of us stick all the way to the end! You are so fortunate to be somewhere where they have so many tool auctions!
The "Machinist's Bedside Reader" in three volumes is both informative and interesting. No longer in publication, used copies in good condition (which your Volume 2 appears to be at least that, if not very good) sell for $80 and up (originally around $20 in the late 1980's): even without some of the choice items you got, you had a good morning. My full set of "Readers" sits beside my copy of "Machinery Repairman 2 & 3" (USN training manual), my 56th edition of "How to Run a Lathe" and all four volumes of Brownell's "Gunsmith Kinks."
I love seeing old tools at auctions , I wished I lived in a industrial area , auction around here may have some craftsman’s tool but nothing like I get to see when you go to a auction and show us . Too bad it was raining ,Thank you for dealing with the rain . Now get those finds dried off , lol.
Well I know how that goes. I have been to a auction in the rain hear in MO. It was a miserable day. But I got some great items. I love looking at what you find. I think that you do good. You are out and about doing something that you enjoy. You meet people and that is the fun of it also. So keep it up. It is better than sitting around the house and doing nothing. So I say enjoy it and I'll keep watching the videos.
Burr,,,setting in the passenger seat, I got a chill from the rainy cold drive to and from the sale,,hehe ! Any way, wish I could have went along, but glad you weathered the day to go and bring home some more treasures (@@)! Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year for Bear & Sammie, Tx.
I enjoy your auction videos (and the instructive ones as well) . You are lucky to still have live auctions with interesting things to buy. Its all on-line auctions around here which means almost everything is over-priced.
Thanks for taking us along on your road trip. Lousy weather? Sure, but better than snow and ice! Nice score, worth the trouble and a tip of the hat to Mrs. "Tubalcain" for helping to rescue these fine tools.
The only auctions in northern Iowa are farm auctions with hay racks full of rusty tools in boxes that have lived in farm machine sheds for a couple lifetimes. I am not sure what I will do with all this extra credit I am getting by watching these videos but I am sure if I took all of it and a $5.00 bill I could buy a fancy coffee that looks more like a milkshake than coffee. I'll be back for part 2.
Congratulations! Sure is good that these fine old tools are going where they are appreciated. Thats a nice selection of goodies👍. I love the magazines... they are a treasure of good reading.. Looking forward to part 2, as is my husband.
Those who say you're bragging are just jealous. They would be flooding their social media with a score like that too if they got their hands on it. We all do it, its the joy of the hunt. What's the point of going out finding this cool old stuff if you can't shoe it off and share it with people who enjoy it. By the way, who ever reads this. I bought starrett 4 piece pin vise set in original package for $1 at an estate sale near by. 😀
It's always a bummer when tool hunting and I expand my radius out towards Illinois and Michigan, so much for so little but so far away! Meanwhile a mini lathe in my neighborhood goes for a grand or more.
I am also looking forward to part 2. You are living the dream. LOL Auctions with that amount of good Starrett stuff are a rare deal down here where I am at.
I love your auction videos. You seem to find the perfect auctions that I can’t find in my area. Don’t let the critical negative Comments get you down, just remember if you have a “pair and a spare” of something you are a hoarder but once you have more than that you are a “collector” Keep the excellent videos coming and do something special for your wife to thank her for helping with the rain recovery.
