Brilliant guys!! I want to raise the roof on my garage, and now I see a way to do it. Now I don't have to rip the top off and rebuild it new. I have to check with my towns zoning department to see how high I can go with it. Thanks for posting the video!

man, this was awesome!!! I started to follow bc I was looking at your epic dodge build which is even cooler! And all the people saying stuff about the kid are a bunch of overprivileged babies! I absolutely loved to watch stuff like this when I was a kid!!! made me who I am and able to build awesome stuff! how many dads now a-days are not even in their kids life?!?! this one is teaching him at a young age while getting stuff done at the same time! bet this kid grows up to do some incredible stuff not to mention not be part of the problem with the world today with everyone getting in other peoples business! I didn't see the kid get hurt, in fact i didn't even see him cry, seamed happy as hell being around the boys! you have your own dam stuff to worry about, don't tell someone how to raise their kid, different folks different values.

@@silvervette732 how much it cost to lift a garage roof?
@silvervette732
@silvervette732 5 лет назад
@@jesusfcasas6224 I have right around $1500 in materials, framing, sheathing, wrap, siding, and the actual lift frame rig I built, plus the cost of the lift. Then I used all the remaining materials, like the 6x6s became gate posts. So nothing was wasted and was well worth the price.

Did you raise the roof 6 ft? I have a 36 by 28 3 bay Garage with a 9’4” ceiling height, I need to get 13 ft do you think it will work with just one lift the same way?
@silvervette732
@silvervette732 4 года назад
I raised the roof 4 ft, and I'm not sure, my main concern would be balancing it, considering its not a square roof. What do you plan to using to span the whole length of the roof trusses to lift? And you'll have to get an approximate weight, trusses, ply and shingles ( or whatever you have). Plus the lifting rig. So as to not over load the lift capacity. Then you have to consider deflection and sag when you lift. It's gonna twist a bit when it let's go of the walls, So setting it down square may be a concern. Do you plan on having multiple lifts? One at either end while simultaneously lifting and lowering, in my opinion would be a better option. With both lifting rigs joined to split the load evenly. Now that would be a sight to see. And certainly put my show to shame. Either way, good luck in your endeavors
@RyanMCase
@RyanMCase 5 лет назад
Did you add additional 4x for the entire length of the extended height? I was surprised to not see a larger garage door after you lifted it (although i assume you changed your door to vertical lift as opposed to rolling backwards - was that due to cost? I assume that I would need to add much more than the extra sections.
@silvervette732
@silvervette732 5 лет назад
Yes I sistered in 2x's from floor to ceiling, I rewound the torsion springs to accommodate the extra weight by the vertical lift, and a 10' roll up is in the works. I just added extra track for the required height and moved the pull cables up two panels from the bottom.

Very impressive! I’ve been thinking about doing the same thing to my detached 24x24x8 garage for the same reason. I have officially been in my house 1 year now. It's a very nice house that has the potential to take it much further than it already is. Also a yard Barn that is good high quality with a concrete floor but I would also like to do this with.

Generally you clear the work area so you can run in any direction- when crap goes bad. I can see why things can go wrong. Trusses (16)x86#, 5/8 sheets(50)x53#, Tar paper (3)x80#, Shingles (24)x75#, nails 30#= 1376, 2650, 240, 1800, 30 You have a hair over 6000 pounds in the air there. I would have at least put the truck in the street. Where are your 4 corner stabilizing pockets and posts? I want to do this with my shed- so mine is a pie crawl.

I do things I am not qualified to do also. Means I can comment BUT can't criticise. I can suggest that that baby should not be anywhere near anything like this. Say to the kid "look what daddy did" but nowhere near till it's totally safe. Professionals insist on that. Amateurs should do it automatically.

no offense to the builder but most people want to lift their whole garage so they can repair/build the foundation. Not usually the situation when you just want to raise the roof. Besides all that, have fun with your actuators.

Nickel Basin Recyclers, there was nothing wrong with the garage, aside from it being unfinished inside. But I needed the ceiling height for the lift. I had an 8 foot ceiling before, now it's 12 foot and a few inches. so now everything fits perfectly.

Yah. safety last, always a smart thing. Mechanism fails, roof slides on to child and the adults go uh.. But i guess the kid got to learn how to do this if needed someday.
