I vote for flowers!! Love the idea of trailing geraniums. This is going to be fun! The pollinators will appreciate it!

I'd love to see the bed painted black with white criss-cross siding so it highlights the color of your garden. You've put in so much work into your and Gary's gardens that it deserves to be another beautiful vocal point. Another idea.... paint it all white and let your grand kids paint flowers, grass, butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, etc on the sides. Now that is a better memory, in my mind, than keeping it white just because a previous owner had it there for years! ❤

Hi Robbie, here's an idea: how about if Gary built a low deck around it (especially the back if it) so it wouldn't be so hard for you to manage near the center? Maybe with a stairstep or two. Just a thought! Thanks.

I concur with your executive decision! Lol. Great idea! I created a wildflower garden in a circle in the midst of my vegetable garden this year, and it brought us so much joy. I'd always wanted one, but, I was surprised to see how much my husband enjoyed it. He would take photos and send to friends and family.

I bet the truck bed will be beautiful when it's full of flowers! I want to try to do something similar behind the assisted living where my Mom lives. Just throw all kinds of Zinnia, cosmo and marigold seeds back there and let whatever grows grow! The soil is terrible and they don't mulch it or anything, so at least the flowers would look better than just the cracked dirt/clay that is there now! Thanks for the inspiration Robbie!! :)

Yes, wildflowers would look awesome. I kept seeds from the flowers that bloomed really well last year. I threw them in an antique wheelbarrow I have sitting under the shepard hook that hold 4 feeders. I'm really hopeful that will be a success. I'm looking forward to the return of hummingbirds in about 4-4 1/2 months.

@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy : thanks Robbie for your reply !!!! We have an endless supply of potato starts for our community garden , because we're associated with the food pantry that receives potato donations !!!! And we use the sprouting potatoes which are not distributed to the public in the raised beds to grow more potatoes from the garden to the food pantry !!!! It's a great circle of potatoes that works for the benefit of the community !!!!

This seems like a great place for flowers - I've got several wildflower and pollinator mixes that I intend to plant this year! For the buckets - have you grown yacon? It's one of the tubors grown with potatoes in the Andes, related to dahlias, they can be eaten raw or cooked. I've had several in bug pots the last couple of years, and brought the crowns into my greenhouse for winter. In Oregon, the natives used the tubors of our native 'sunroot' as well as camas and Sagittaria.

I have a big tall horse trough from tractor supply that I have been trying for years to grow stuff in, but it is in blasting western sun all day and I wind up having to shade everything. Summer before last I got tired of it and just let the green onions and a couple of basil plants go nuts and those Basil plants got huge. I am in Sacramento zoned 9b and the frost Hasn’t slowed them down at all. The hummingbirds and the bees love the flowers And it’s pretty. I left all my onions and Parsley and cilantro to go to see last year and the birds were everywhere. So my problem planter has become something different than I planned but it’s a welcome change!

Yes yes yes, definitely flowers. Over plant it. Nasturtiums would look amazing along with zinnias and geraniums . Do you have any sunflower seeds in your bird mixes? They would give height at the back. So glad you’re not using buckets. I know they are very practical but you’re going for pretty in this garden. Can’t wait to see it in full bloom. 🥰
