We finished our Green house and got it planted. We went with in ground beds rather than raised beads because the cost of raised beds seems to bee so much more. Planting in the ground seemed like the best option for starting out. Let's see how things grow this year and then reevaluate.

I was going to suggest a tennis ball also, quick easy cheap solution.. But eventually, you might want raised beds when you get older! Less bending over. Good job, I wish I had land for a greenhouse like that

You could put some rebar safety caps on those stakes. We've always planted tomatoes by using the corner of a hoe to make a divot, drop a handful of fertilizer into the hole, place the plant into the hole and using a hand to scoop the dirt we dug out to fill the hole around the plant while holding the plant, lightly pat down the soil around the plant, then pour some water around the plant then move on to the next. Do some weeding later then drive tomatoe stakes in later and break off the suckers.

Marty...tennis balls on the top of the steaks would prevent impalement. Julie...extra large zip tie with permanent marker would do the trick for plant ID. Get them in colors so it will be color coded.

At Home Depot or Lowes you can buy stake toppers that will make your stakes safe and more visible. They are made to cover rebar used in construction, but I'm sure they make a size that will fit your conduit stakes.

Put pool noodles on the stakes after the rebarb caps. They are cheap and you can cut them down and they already have holes in them. They actually make hose reels for garden beds that will catch a hose before it goes into the bed.

Hello from Rancho de Vegas, I would paint or stripe your little posts. Tie some barricade tape around them and mount a blunt cap preferably out of wood, rubber or plastic. Bright colored tennis balls would work well too. Rubber construction cones over them may work as well. You can never be too careful with something that can cut or impale you. Accidents happen and you are a long way from emergency care. Do any or all of these steps and keep smililing😄

Where I work, they cut a hole in a tennis ball. to cover "dangerous" spikes like you have. You could also drill a hole in a small piece of 4x4 lumber to cap them for safety. I think Safety Sally would approve. :)

Good morning and....Great Job! After trying the usual Marks-A-Lot type markers and finding out they fade on plastic labels, I found a product on ebay called Garden Marker that is awesome. Tying a piece of ribbon or tape to the top of the posts makes them easier to see and avoid injured eyes! Simple, quick, and cheap. Mind you, you could still fall on one; tennis ball tops might save you from impaling yourself but you could still get a nasty internal injury.

For small space gardening, use scatter sowing methods, an intense gardening technique. Check out BOTH editions of the Square Foot Gardening books too. In part, they rely on center to center of plants for thier spacing. Row gardening and gardening techniques became very popular for sluce watering in the valleys and also for the use of harvesting machines. Further, the hilled rows give a kiss of raised bed garden advantage. Even in the green house, consider riased planting areas by 12 to 18 inches. Paul J Allan, (also known as PJ Allan) started a farm amd wedding venue type place in the early 2000's and played with flat garden as well as raised farden spaces. This journey was a part of his PBS show; his raised gardens were big enough to run a rototiller down and then a small tractor; he also did some okant testing for others. Also on PBSbut in the 1990's was the Victory Garden show with the coiple from Vermont who swore by growing in elevated mounds for many tnings.

If youve got spare space between plants, consider planting some dakion radishes, also known as tillage radishes. They ate edible, can grow to 6" in diameter each, and work to make soil less compact with thier root structure. Watch for wire worm pressure though. Dakion radishes can be used to supplement fowl and animal feed too.

Good work. As far as the metal posts go, they are a hazard for falling and impalement. If you are using them for aligning your grow beds I'd pull them up; they've served their purpose. In the fall when you till your beds you won't need them. If you are naming your beds, just mark them with sticks.
