I agree every state should have their own babies program. These programs are designed with the babies in mind. They need their mothers more than their mothers need them.

So when the baby turns one the baby is wrested from their mother and put into a program to be raised by strangers? That's terrible. That must be traumatic for the baby not seeing his mother again until she is released maybe years later.

Jean Harris who did time at Bedford Hills between 1981-1993 helped create The Program and Taught Parenting Classes. When she was interviewed in 1989 as part of a CBS 48 Hours Segment about Women In Prison she talked about how she wouldn't have been able to take it if she was incarcerated and her children James Jr., and David were young.

I think they should do what they are doing still in are days because it can show moms if u are watching ur child then u don’t have to worry about doing anything bad

I think this is great. However, I'm not sure how I feel about women who were using during their pregnancy getting to keep their child. I have struggled with addiction in my past. A mother's love should be altruistic. When you use when you're pregnant, you are physically hurting your child. It is essentially abuse 😔

Bedford Hills Correctional facility is a MAXIMUM security prison (the largest Women’s prison in New York State) infamous prisoners were housed there. Women convicted of Violent offenses cannot attend the nursery

We def need more options for work and education to take care of peeps in society so they have options to make enough $ especially if motivated. In jail with a baby just for having a gun?

I think it’s great that women get to raise their children in prison .... But what about the fathers in prison ? ....Let’s have that little discussion we call gender equality... men love their children also.

If you commit a crime that puts you in prison you should not get the same right as a parent in prison that child is in danger of turning out just like the parent
