Robyn Dismon, thanks. Whatever it is..I’m just so tired of ppl being negative towards animals they probably know nothing about. Just for the sake of being negative smh 🤦♀️
I call them Missouri Cats. Every time I try to trap a feral cat I usually find a possum. Startles the cr@p out of me every time! The next possum I catch is going to be TNR'd which should startle the cr@p out of the vet, bless her heart. ;-)
I work nights and have found several over the years with their dead mother in the road, I raised them, they are super sweeet , remind me of a cat . Thanks for helping them.❤
KELLEY Stephens can you give me some advice. I just found 2 babies today and can’t find their mama. I’m keeping them warm and they’re eating warm half and half with a big eye dropper thing. They’re very sweet and curled up in a towel now sleeping.
@@jjsmama401 if you go to a tractor supply get a powder milk for all babies it's like $20, I mixed it by the directions on back for kittens. Use stoppers to SLOWLY feed them if they won't take a bottle, warmth is very impt. Don't force them to eat it they will aspirate and get it in their lungs. Try this, good luck 🍀, let me know how they do, I enjoyed mine.
@@jjsmama401 I found my bag, the milk is called Nurse All, or get something similar to this don't go to wmart and buy kitten milk, this is more versatile. Also Google what to do for baby possums , it shows a lot of helpful stuff but will tell you take them to a trained person. You can do it long as their ain't no laws gonna get you in trouble. Also look up possum society they have very helpful info too.❤👍

They day before yesterday I woke up to seeing a female Opossum with a little cute baby on her back outside my bathroom window in my backyard ..... filled my heart with warmth an such beautiful thing to witness

The younger possums actually remind me of my dog Bandy sometimes. We had to put him down along with our girl dog Mattie because he had really bad arthritis and her mind was pretty much gone, but we loved them both a lot when we had them. Mattie at times with her attitude and the way she walked reminded me of a lion.
@@WildThingsMedia ,Thank you for the information. found the little baby on my patio at 5:30 am this morning didn't know what I was going to do with it until tomorrow Monday .It looked so undefensibe .The poor little guy or girl ...
I ADORE Opossums! No sweeter creatures on Earth. We rescued a crusty adult with injured eyes and he lived two years with us. He truly became one of the family.
Awesome! I found one little survivor about 2 years ago, she (?) was missing the tip of her tail and had dried blood on her nose but was otherwise okay. I made a cozy little cage and kept her safe until I found a rehab qualified to help, thankfully I found one. I actually got to experience a little bond between us following the 4 weeks of care given, they are totally different from what I thought they would be like. I wish people would learn that they are NOT the "big ugly rats" that they are portrayed as, they are actually an essential part of our ecosystem.
I love opossums. Ive raised a lot of orphans but I've got a soft spot for these guys. I've actually educated a lot of people and converted a lot of people to loving and appreciating opossums. Thank you for showing and taking care of these little ones!
Possums are my favorite animal and have been since I was just a kid in Socal. (Since 1986 I guess). Even as a kid I was always fascinated by these odd looking adorable critters who only came around at night and never wanted to be seen, never understanding why people thought they were “pests” when they never bothered anyone (besides eating our outdoor cats food). Cheers to you fiend, poor creatures have few allies, and Jesus. My heart melted how adorable they are.
Thank you for ensuring they get the proper calcium and ensuring they don't develop metabolic Bone disease. It's lovely seeing a video of wildlife being rehabilitated properly.
@@gregpryorhomestead a mother opossum left her baby inside my enclosed back porch because I propped my door open for my cat to go in and out. My cat doesn't live in the porch I bring him inside before I go to bed. I basically keep the porch door open so he can get inside if it rains. I keep a bowl of food inside and a large female opossum has been coming to eat for a couple of years and left her baby behind. I have the baby in a huge dog crate right now. He does eat solid food. Right now he's been eating cat and dog food, apples, bananas and grapes. If I give him any bones should they be cooked or raw? My ex girlfriend kept an opossum for 6 years before it died. It was really sweet. Apparently 5 or 6 years is elderly for an opossum. The nearest wildlife rehabilitation center is 2 hours away and won't come to get him. Our local humane society would probably euthanize it. I don't wanna go that route.
My fiancé and I are raising a baby possum from a baby. She got left behind by her mom in our garage. We’ve had her for a few months, and she’s doing great. She eats about everything, we make sure to feed her a wide variety of foods, she is the most amazing pet we have ever had. She is so nice.
@The BFI "its a really shit joke" your name is a shit joke. I'm not Russian by the way I just learned all of the language so I decided to use it on my account.
man the longer i watch your videos the more i like you. Your knowlege , kindnes and just pure love for nature , ahh you're just amazing Greg ,keep going
I freaking love possums, they're so tiny and curious I'd honestly Love to keep one as a pet, but only if it wasn't used to the wild though as I can actually relate to possums, eat junk and sleep in the day xD

Thank you for sharing this with us! I love possums, raccoons, and skunks, all of which are becoming urbanized because all the untouched range of countryside land and hills now have houses built or being built. The poor wildlife have been pushed out of the land. The building boom has ruined Orange County, California, and is still ongoing like crazy! Growing up it was rural farmland. Now it’s a big bustling megacity, and already the streets and freeways are jammed and have more cars than they can deal with. More and more lofts, “pack-n-stacks,” are now in every space available. But I digress... I have about 8 possums that stop by. All of various sizes. I’ve been thinking of becoming a baby possum carer...
This has happened in Bloomington, Indiana also, which used to be such a nice town blending city and rural beauty. As they dug up the land to "develop it" with luxury condos and stupid shopping centers I saw marmots, possums, even deer that had got displaced. One thing I found out the marmots/groundhogs like is peanut butter sandwiches. Take two of those dish things you put under a plant pot, put the sandwich in one and cover it with the other one. Marmots are very smart. We had one who would come and eat half the sandwich, put the lid back on, come back and eat the rest later.
Man, I love possums, they're adorable. I had a huge slug problem until a few opossums joined my local cat colony. They eat them all! They're just as sweet as the cats. I'll never understand the hate they get.
Great video. My wife is working on getting her license from the state (TX) to rehab wildlife. She has been working as a sub-permitee for several years now rehabbing opossums. We have a large cage for outdoors and frequently have babies on the enclosed porch. We take them from needing tube fed until release in the wild. These guys are very personable. If you have time and the passion, volunteer at a local wildlife rehabilitation center. There are lots of animals needing help. Also get to know your state laws relating to wildlife. Here in TX the Opossum is a protected species and you need permission to keep one while other places (CA) don't have that restriction.
Hello. I run an animal sanctuary and one of my biggest joys is rescuing baby possums. Sometime I don't want to set them free and because I love them soooo much I spoil them. I've worked with Raccoons before but you have to be very careful. The finger nails on some are like razor blades. Plus they have a oil on their coat that can really cause some nasty damage to your eyes, say if your working with them and you happen to rub your eyes with your fingers uh oh. This is a great video. Best of luck to you. Peace.
1:19 lool, first it was trying to get away slowly without being noticed. Then it realized it was spotted and started sprinting really fast. Very cute and clever little guy 😂
As a possum lover myself thank you so much for educating people on them. We had a mama and babies under our house so we never had to do rehabilitation with them but they were never a problem and they were a joy to have around! Side note we had little to no bug issues on our property lol! Again thank you very much for all you do :)
I can’t get enough of this video! Wow! I love possums! I wish I could do what you do! They are so misunderstood and I try to share with as many people as I can how amazing they are! Thank you for doing what you do and for making this video! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I have 2 babies right now. They’re much littler than these. Feeding them half and half with an eye dropper. Tomorrow I will call the wildlife shelter. They’re so cute! Keeping them warm.
THANK YOU for heloing these amazing little creatures!!! You are a really lovely person. WE love Opossums too and feed an adolescent Possum who comes to our house who is sooooo darling. We are also putting out a nesting box with heated pad for cold winter months because we don't want the sweet creature to get frostbite!
Wow keep up the great work! God bless you for saving those little cuties. Great to know they eat ticks my son and I just watched your video and learned some fascinating info. They are just so sweet! Thanks for sharing👍💛
TYSM for posting this video!! It's worth watching the entire video just to see the little one yawn at the end 😄 So cute!!❣️ I love possums now that I've taken the time to understand them. As a dog owner I'm actually grateful to have them around for the simple fact that they eat ticks which sounds kind of gross but it's nowhere near as gross as finding a tick(s) latched onto your skin or heaven forbid biting on your child. With tick-borne illness rapidly increasing we definitely need creatures to consume them! Everyone should start loving these guys. 😍
I have an opossum who comes around every night to clean up uneaten cat food and other scraps I don't want rotting away in my trashcan. It's a perfect symbiotic relationship. This creature is like a low maintenance pet.
I just rescued a opossum that had a severely broken leg. I took it to a wildlife vet and unfortunately they euthanize the possum however, it turns out she had eight babies and are now at a rehabber. I'm so sad for the mother but happy for the babies. Thank you for helping mother nature out! I adore possums
I just found a baby opossum in my back porch chilling with my kittens. It was eating the kitty food & drinking their water. I been seeing it wondering around at night the past week. Should I leave it some food every night or should I leave it be? Also it wasn't afraid of me.
leave it food! if u have veggies or fruits or chicken bones that u don't use for dinner u can feed them to the opossum (maybe boil bones first to b safe)
I put out grapes for my possum visitors, and any other fruit I happen to have around. Cat food now and then. I had one who was crazy about blueberries a few years ago.
We had to trap/kill the pair of opossums visiting our chicken cages and eating the eggs. There were plenty of fruit trees /w fallen fruits (tangerines/persimmons) that they could've eaten from but nope. We kept seeing empty nest /w nothing left but cracked egg shells every night. RIP opossums. And no more broken eggshells afterwards. So if you or anyone within 5 miles of your house has chickens... it's best not to feed them.
They need fresh water and a little food would be great. I have grown possums I've raised from mouse size with doll baby bottles. They are now fully grown and come at night and eat with my cats. I can still pet them.
Currently found a baby possum living under our stairs. I had one when I was a teenager that I took in for the night before giving him to people more experienced than myself. What I will say he was the sweetest little guy who slept on my chest through the night never moved. He would also hang on my finger with his little paws like a monkey. Hopefully gonna get the little guy under the stairs tonight.❤️
i love possums so much. i used to volunteer for a wildlife rehab center and i was tasked with taking care of a possum. we couldn't release her bc she had been raised by people but she was a sweety.
😇 Thank you for this great video which educated me to a better understanding and hope others learn. It's a shame some mommies get killed and babies of no life afterwards. THEY EAT BUGS AND TICKS which is great to know. ☺ A had 2 rats as pets as babies. You rehab them is wonderful. God Bless
Pretty cool. Opossums frequent my property a lot. Mostly I find them in my garbage and let them go when they get stuck. I talk to them normally as in "hey you!" and take them somewhere that is safe that has more trees and land.
I love them so much!!!!! My dream is to stumble upon baby possums 🥰🥰🥰 It would be a dream come true to help raise them and strengthen them for the wild. I’m tearing up from how precious this video is!!!!
How can I help? I have been an animal lover since birth and opossums are my actual sprit animal I love them so much, I just recently got my work permit in the us and I’d like to know what I could do to be around wonderful animals as much as possible
Absolutely adorable little things. I feed squirrels and rabbits on my porch and now i have a wild opossum frequent my porch every night to eat fruit or whatever i put up there. So neat to respect wildlife and enjoy another beating heart.
Thank you for telling people not to keep them! I get so many that have been given the wrong diet and end up with MBD! That leaves me struggling to reverse it or at least manage it. And sometimes it even kills them. 😢 DIET IS KEY! ♥️
I do rehab. I have one sleeping under my bed now. She couldn’t be released so she just has the run of the house. She is drain trained so goes potty in the tub. She is the most sweet and gently thing I’ve ever had the good fortune to have as a roommate.
You have such a kind and gentle soul they are so sweet I try to help wild life as much as i can. I love those sweet opossums makes me want to cry People misunderstanding them 😥😥
I´ve heard about possums, but I would never think they have such sweet personality (meaning they would rather run than bite etc.) In fact, they are more friendly than most people x)
They are so cute! If I didn't have allergies and severe asthma I'd totally get into rehabbing wild orphaned animals. I love them so much. Thank you for helping.
I love possums too. They are so gentle and sweet. The males can really stink though. I brought one in that was injured and what a stench. I gave him to a woman who specializes in rescuing possums and noticed she had on very heavy perfume. She had several she kept in her house and said she can't have people inside due to the stink.
So cool that the possums here in America date back ages and are our only marsupial! I admit possums look vicious, but they can be super cute when chilling and eating and so on.
Possum's are so cute. Had one sneak into my shop during a thunderstorm, i went to run her off but then seen her babies so I feed her cat food, she comes back every now and then.
Possums have so many benefits in the garden. Nice creatures that don't bother anyone---it's sad to see them feared and reviled. As one can see-- from the many rescue and 'I adopted a possum' type videos across the web---they're intelligent, playful, and can be very affectionate.
I've also raised baby squirrels to go back into the wild also. Except my baby squirrels kept coming back to visit afterwards for awhile until they found a mate then I couldn't tell one from another. Lol
