The video, recorded on May 4, 2024, on Easter Saturday, shows you the final moments of the construction of the wreaths and the Easter crosses, followed by their lifting and installation on the tops of Boistea Hill. The wreaths are built and rising by the young people of the village, according to an old tradition, apparently unique and which, according to some, comes from the pre-Christian period (on the night of the Resurrection, the "wheels of fire" are also performed here).
The Boistea wreaths are two in number, built and raised on the peaks of Pârăoani and Releu (Dealul Mare), separated by a valley that cuts the Boistea Hill. So there is a kind of competition, but the two teams help each other in the sensitive moment of lifting the crowns.
Wreaths are tall wooden structures, heavy but flexible, fully wrapped with ”cetina” (fir twigs) and decorated with icons (and the flag of the European Union, in this case). The two crosses next to the wreath are also made of fir wood, less high, also wrapped in ”cetina” and decorated with icons and the Romanian tricolor.
The video shows the moments of tension during the lifting and fixing of the wreaths, improper handling can lead to their collapse or breakage. Because of this, the lifting operation requires a clear distribution of roles and very careful coordination.
Once rised, the wreaths are visible from many kilometers away and remain in place until the Ispas (Ascension) when they are demolished.
