Rajery - Live at Afrika Festival Hertme

Rajery is considered a virtuoso on the valiha, the bamboo harp of Madagascar. He is also a writer, composer, singer, choir director, percussionist, actor, festival organizer, music therapist for the mentally disturbed, writer of musicals and founder of his own valiha school.
Rajery's debut performance in the Netherlands took place in Hertme in 2006. Ton Maas wrote in de Volkskrant: "Quality abounds in Hertme, but no one even came close to the sensation caused by Rajery. Accompanied by his carelessly precision-operated backing band, he thrilled the audience with a perfect synthesis of refined court music and smooth, jazzy funk. A physical disability - as an eleven-month-old baby, Rajery lost his right hand - makes his dexterity on the instrument extra spectacular." According to Ton Maas in 2006.
That performance in 2006 made such an impression that Rajery was invited again on the 25th and also on the 30th edition. The reason to ask him again this year is that, after 30 years of traveling the world, he has entered a new phase of his career. This spring he recorded his 7th album 'Fito' with a new line-up. The album is about global climate change, the preservation of the environment and the classic farming world. Rajery takes two of his sons, Jery and Zo.
Rajery wordt beschouwd als een virtuoos op de valiha, de bamboeharp van Madagaskar. Daarnaast is hij ook schrijver, componist, zanger, koordirigent, percussionist, toneelspeler, festivalorganisator, muziektherapeut voor geestelijk gestoorden, schrijver van musicals en oprichter van zijn eigen valiha-school.
Rajery’s debuutoptreden in Nederland vond plaats in Hertme in 2006. Ton Maas schreef in de Volkskrant: “Kwaliteit te over in Hertme, maar niemand kwam maar zelfs in de buurt van de sensatie die veroorzaakt werd door Rajery. Begeleid door zijn met achteloze precisie opererende begeleidingsband bracht hij het publiek in vervoering met een volmaakte synthese van verfijnde hofmuziek en soepele, jazzy funk. Een lichamelijke handicap - als baby van elf maanden verloor Rajery zijn rechterhand - maakt zijn behendigheid op het instrument extra spectaculair.” Aldus Ton Maas in 2006.
Dat optreden in 2006 maakte zoveel indruk dat Rajery op de 25ste en ook op de 30ste editie opnieuw werd uitgenodigd. De reden om hem dit jaar weer te vragen is dat hij, na 30 jaar de wereld te hebben rondgereisd, een nieuwe fase van zijn carrière is ingegaan. Dit voorjaar nam hij met een nieuwe line-up zijn 7e album ‘Fito’ op. Het album gaat over de wereldwijde klimaatverandering, het behoud van het milieu en de klassieke boerenwereld. Rajery neemt twee van zijn zoons mee, Jery en Zo.
