Performance 7 July 2018.
Rajery is regarded as a valiha virtuoso, the tubular zither of Madagascar. In addition, he is also a writer, composer, singer, choral conductor, percussionist, actor, festival organizer, music therapist for the mentally impaired, writer of musicals and founder of his own valiha school.
Rajery's debut performance in the Netherlands took place in Hertme in 2006. Ton Maas wrote in Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant: "Quality can be found all over in Hertme, but nobody came even close to the sensation caused by Rajery''. Accompanied by his carefree backing band, he enthralls his audience with a perfect synthesis of refined traditional and smooth, jazzy funk. Physically handicapped himself - as an eleven-month-old baby Rajery lost his right hand - making his dexterity on the instrument even more spectacular cited Ton Maas in 2006.
When the Afrika Festival celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2013, Rajery was invited to perform for a second time. On the upcoming jubilee edition we shall bear witness to his talents for a third time. In addition to old-timers Ratax and Fefy who supported him in 2006 and 2013, his eldest son Fo and a younger one Jery also accompany him.
