Rak or Mntd Helium hotspot with one of these issues? Or maybe you run a 32GB card?

If you are feeling out of sync issues, please run a diagnostic report.
You can use this app to retrieve a detailed diagnostic report: github.com/ken...
YOU ONLY NEED TO REPLACE OR REWRITE THE MICROSD THAT COMES WITH YOUR HOTSPOT IF:
- shows "Disk Error" in the diagnostics
- is not booting up (cannot connect over Bluetooth anymore after pressing the pairing button)
- shows a solid or flashing green status LED
- shows a very old block height and/or firmware version in diagnostics
- If its stuck in the same block after 2 diagnostics done 24 hours apart

Warning : if your hotspot has lots of witnesses 60+ i would highly suggest 128GB SD upgrade . My 32gb went out every 2 weeks cos it was full ,updated to 64gb now it happens every 3weeks. I get 80+ witnesses every 5 days . Also do not install the beta firmware it's not stable. Lastly 0% and no inbound outbound make sure wifi is connected wait 10mins hard restart device , wait 30mins then check Blockchain height it should be online and moving (24-48hrs later you should be fully online) . I've came across this issue each time i updated my SD card .

Great video! I'm copying here, our conversation about "which RAK version do I have?" BFGNeil's answers are below:: 1-- shows as "Helium Inc (Old)" on helium explorer and Hotspotty. No Bluetooth-pairing button. (BFGNeil: likely a RAK v1.) Note, the v1 requires cloning the existing card; watch the video. 2-- Shows as "Cal-Chip Connected Devices" on explorer and Hotspotty. No Bluetooth-pairing button. (BFGNeil: likely RAK v1.5) I hope this helps others who own older RAK hotspots.

I’m confused? Is this even Necessary? Using your idea with the flash install from start to Finish will I see more gain in HNT? Will it increase anything I’d notice? How important is this! I have the GOLDSPOT RAKv2 and I thought with the 8 system it was build for future updates and upgrades that the network didn’t get to yet! Thought the reason for the extra mb was for this reason?

The SD card is still 32gb on the gold (the storage) so it's worth doing , the 8gb is ram for running programs

Once the hotspot is found after scanning and it's selected, it spins for a second then just goes back to "1 Hotspot Found" and isn't added. I've flashed the SD card 2x

If your pc doesn't have a SD card slot you'll need to buy a usb card reader

IMPORTANT: The Hotspot needs a minimum of 30 minutes to initialize correctly after an SD card flash. During this time please do not reboot, disconnect the power or internet connections. Bluetooth will also not show correct data during this time.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION for all the people with problem of "inbound" and "outbound" turned off and blockchain at 0% after the correct flashing of sd card, i lose one week with various flashing, but the problem is my sd card Kingston 128gb UHS-I class 100 80mb/s, but before i ordered and today i received the Sandisk high endurance 64 gb, i look the card is already formatted in exfat, later i only flashed the card with balena etcher(as administrator) with 2022_01_04 firmware, and it work perfectly ! Now i can look in diagnostic inbound and outbound turned on and the blockchain at 1%(is updating) , finally solved !

Having this issue.. "inbound" and "outbound" turned off and blockchain at 0% after the correct flashing having a new sandisk 64gb extreme pro and did the flash in admin mode.. waited 24 hours nothing happens. wonder what it can be

@@RobvanGils ok, first time i flashed the sandisk high endurance, i put it in the hotspot and again no inbound and outbound, but i try to turn off and turn on the hotspot and later all work perfectly, i think you have to try to turn off and turn on the hotspot. Listen me : turn off the hotspot, wait 5 minutes, later turn on the hotspot, wait one minute(important) and later one minute push the pairing button on the hotspot, now try with the app to pairing the hotspot, now go in network and set AGAIN the network with the password and later try to go in diagnostic and look if is all ok. But my card is a sandisk high endurance, not an extreme pro.

Hi there. I followed instructions to the letter on my Windows 10 PC and at the end I get an error message saying that it FAILED. However, when I go to Disk Management and look at the SD card's partitions, I see 3: First is a 32MB FAT partition, Second is a 1000MB partition (no type of partition noted), Third partition is Unallocated. Does this seem right? On the first partition there are many files and a folder called "overlays". I tried redownloading the image zip file as well but BalenaEtcher keeps saying FAILED after validating.

@@BFGNeil Thank you for the reply. Tried your suggestion and the end result is the same in terms of the 3 partitions created on the SD card using Raspberry Pi Imager or Balena. PSA: Just to let everyone know, the SD card that was imaged with Balena which received the FAILED message after validating actually ended up working fine on my RAK v2 miner. Took about 3-4 days to sync back up and start to send/witness beacons. I'm going to test the SD card imaged with Raspberry Pi Imager on my other RAK v2 miner in the coming days and will update.

I also used an Win 10 computer and when I did the flash, it flashed on my card the image plus my computer asked me to format the F drive which is on the same SD card so, my flash made automatically another portion in which I decided to format? Does that sound right???

Hi! I have a RAK V2.0 and used the exact SD card you suggested but after I insert the new card it doesnt want to connent co bluetooth.... If I put back the old 32GB one it works fine (besides flatline-ing every 3-4 weeks). Any ideas? All responses are appreciated!

It's just where it's not readable in the format it's in on your pc, that's normal

PLEASE HELP!!! Ive done everything perfectly in this video and my miner still shows up on the bluetooth but will not connect to my phone. I plut the old 32 GB back in and its working fine but i still want to upgrade the memory cap. also, the downloaded file is different now than when this video was made

I did an SD swap with the 2022.01.04 that was on the MNTD site. I notice when I did the Bluetooth sync that it was on 2022.01.12 when the card crashed. It is still offline since a day ago and was wondering if it could be an old firmware problem. It says the unit is online in heliumstatus but not on the API.

any newly flashed cards will update to the latest as the first thing it does. The api is slow to update, helium status is a live check

I first configured my hostpot rak v2 6 days ago, and it was syncing. port 44158 open ok, ethernet connectivity. After 2 days, I switch to offline. The diagnostic tells me outbound/inbound OK, blockchain sync 0%, disk: "no data available". I took out and put the microsd and nothing, still the same. I also tried restarting it 2 times in these 6 days. The firmware version is 2021.03.09, very old right? They recommend me to change the microsd for a 64 and start everything from scratch ¿?, download firmware, etc, etc ¿?

Well, i got my Blackspot a week ago and im setting it up just now. It will not Bluetooth connect. i followed the guide and still no connection. I bought the suggested SanDisk and flashed it using the balena app and the 'MNTD_2022_03_15_0.img.zip' file. i even bought the micro card directly from RAKwireless , waited hours before trying to connect, and nothing works. it just will not connect. I need help getting this unit connected, PLEASE

Why even replace the card with a 64GB or 128GB flash card? Once you use balenaEtcher as GETMNTD and RAK recommend using to install the software, it partitions the SD card down to 32GB no matter which card you use. Check the properties and Disk Partition and you will see what I mean. Your thoughts?

Helpful video but my app just isn't working. I cant get it to flash. I have downloaded the zip twice, I have downloaded both versions of the app. I tried to flash 10 times. I have reformatted the 64card 2 or 3 times (NTFS and exFat). The image file wont flash to the SD card. It wont even let me click the flash button. I have restarted the laptop 2 times. Any ideas welcome.

I recently got my rak v2, it reached 90% sync with the 32gb card then failed. Now just shows need attention. I went ahead and did this upgrade thinking it’s because of the 32gb card. It’s still showing needs attention and doesn’t pair. Any thoughts?

What do I do if everything flashed properly but the bluetooth still doesn't work on the explorer app after 12 hours and it's still showing offline? Using the hotspot utility app allowed me to pair it to bluetooth at the beginning to connect it to my wifi network however under diagnostic it is still showing blank for name, blockchain height, and NAT type, as well as inbound and outbound obviously.

I didn’t buy Rak to wait 9 months to get only for it work on one month before constant needs attention 99.54% syncs now I’m hearing I need a new SD. I don’t remember signing up for tech maintenance Should I even bother or just wait till they switch to light gateway? Could I keep my stock SD card that came with my miner then if I’m willing to wait it out?

you can keep the stock if you want totally, Its just a recommended upgrade. pretty soon Rak will be releasing a remote dashboard with fast sync.

hi man, i have 1 problem. my card decompresed and flashed but on walidating portion its getting errors over and over again. Is it necessery to be completed? I instaled flashed 128gb card into my rak hotspot secound ago and i will see what happens, but im cureous if walidating is like 100% needed

Should be able to pair with it, did you follow the balena steps? Don't unzip the image when you select it for flash

@@BFGNeil Yup followed the steps exactly as shown in the video, didn't unzip. Only thing I did which might have been a mistake was that when I flashed it I got a popup saying to format the disk and I pressed yes, don't know if that affected anything but I deleted the partitions and tried to start the process over again, didn't click format this time around but don't know if things are already screwed up.

I am having the same issue here. Replaced with recommended card (128g). Didn't unzip. It's been a few hours and I can't pair. No hotspots available in app. Lights are solid green and orange. Solid red on other side of Mntd miner as usual. Thank you.

So I downloaded the firmware, flashed it onto the SD card and put it into the miner. So far it's been about 24 hours, according to hotspotty its still offline and not syncing. When I do a diagnostic report, it says the block height is 1 and it is not connected to the blockchain. Do I just need to literally sit there and wait for it to randomly come back up online and sync?

A little late but needing to do this. This maybe a simple answer but when you install that new SD card how does it know your hotspot name, wallet etc? I would assume you would have to program that back on somehow or login to something, no?

A little late replying but the key is stored on an ecc chip, that's the hotspots identity and can't be changed.

After this process is done it looks like it splits the sd card into multiple drives? It immediately asks for me to format the drive and I hit cancel. Just wondering what is the right approach to this?

Yeah it won't show up correctly as it's a different file system, ignore that, after balena says it's done you're fine

I didn't have the issue when I swapped the sd card on a miner that was never up and running. But on one that was up and running and was getting the error message when trying to go into diagnostics .

sounds right to me, did you use an ethernet connection? best to leave it on for an hour first.

@BFGNeil. I updated the firmware on the new SDCard by flashing it with Balena app. Your directions were simple and clear. Thank you. However, when I power my hotspot the led light remains red and will not turn green. I scanned for hotspot and found the Helium Hotspot. I tried to connect but I got the following error: "Onboarding address is invalid. Please contact Hotspot Manufacturer." Am I missing anything?

I just updated my sd card as per your video. However, I am now unable to pair with my device and not sure what I did wrong. I can not check to see if it is connected and cannot pair, therefore cannot pull diagnostics. Any thoughts what I can do? Thank you!

I just upgraded my SD Card using your video - thanks for making this so easy! I was curious - I bought my 64GB SD before watching your video, and I bought the A1 version. What is the difference between A1 and A2 specifically for a helium miner? Thanks again! Fan Request: turn down the music a bit. It was hard to hear you in certain parts.

Im coming crazy for this sd card replacing, NEW IMPORTANT QUESTION : it's possible only put a NEW sd card inside the hotspot, without flashing it, and only waiting the update like the first time hotspot installation ? Can i reset the hotspot to ZERO and put my new 128 gb sd card and REPEAT THE FIRST INSTALLATION HOTSPOT FROM ZERO ? When the hotspot is new, the sd card inside is EMPTY ?

no, you have to flash the firmware from it, its not empty, it has the Operating system on it when you get it from rak

@@BFGNeil ok thank you. another question : when i do correctly the flashing process, i look in windows/disk management, and i look 3 partition, one primary of 32 mb, another primary with 1 gb, and a THIRD partition NOT PRIMARY, with inside 123gb of NOT ALLOCATED SPACE. It's correct? Because in the ORIGINAL CARD, the third partition, i'ts not NOT ALLOCATED SPACE but is a third PRIMARY PARTITION with 28.7 gb.

followed instructions used 1024 gb but put in miner and i couldnt pair as my hotspot could not be found on bluetooth also i put that card back in a card reader to see what was on there and there where a lot of files and one folder that says overlays also says sd card is only like 32mb and done same process when my new 64gb card came today looks like same files have been flashed to it and its says properties 23.7 mb used and only 8.16mb free whats going on should i format new card and try again

Balena does everything for you, once done the card won't be fully readable (it's in another format for Linux)

Nope that's all saved relating to the swarm key on the ecc chip, your just reloading the firmware by flashing the SD

Just did this upgrade and now the bluetooth wont pair.. its been about 30min or so. Ill give it an hour and reboot or go back to old version. Im a little discouraged considering i just recieved this miner today and im already having to upgrade/troubleshoot

Balenciaga etcher is not working for me bc it asks for a password and my cpu is setup without a pw. I've tried my pw to apple store and this doesn't work either. *I simply created a system pw in the security settings and viola' worked like a charm*

@@BFGNeil Thank you for your response and your time... sadly my helium geek app shows offline and transmit scale 0... its very strange. I cannot see the number of block. I am trying to do the first sync on a rak v2, the original firmware in the original sd card was too old so the sync stucked in block 1 for 15 hours... so i flashed a new 64gb card and now it shows 100 full sync in hellium app (but i think its impossible because 1 hour ago it was in 0 per cent, its very strange to do a full sync in less than 1 hour) and in real time status check apps like hottspoty or heliumgeek shows offline and no response... no pin response... in hellium map it i can see the location but i cannot see the green hexagon, and says SYNCING... but in diagnostics says 100 full sync... i dont know whats going on...

Maby becource i bought a sandisk extreme pro 64gig? the pro is to much? just put the old sd standard 32gb back in and in 5 min i have inbound and outbound back and sync too. But i really want to upgrade it gonne put it high up outdoors and want to leave it there for a long time.. Start to pull my hair out by now hahaha

Yes, it will resync less often , currently a 32gb card will resync once every 4-5 weeks
