I recently bought a three pack of 200ml Benromach. 10, 15 yr and cask strength to get a tasting experience. The price was. £45. The new young distillers could follow this example thus allowing us to have decent tasting experiences of the output.

very good idea. i bought same set over year ago for £49 and enjoy all 3 expressions. CS is my favourite so i get full bottle now for £60 lovely stuff. 200ml bottles are perfect for keeping some whiskies from long open big bottles. 🥂🙋🏻‍♂️

That sounds like a reasonable price. I love the idea of samplers, and 200ml seems the most reasonable sampling size. I rarely buy them, because prices tend to be unreasonable, so only occasionally, if they're on clearance. Nominally there's more packaging costs per unit of content, but if distilleries want to market their product, they should offer these at more attractive prices.

Was talking about this with Shane ( whisky lock ) its hard to pay £60+ for a new bottling from a new company when you know Deanston 12 and Bunna 12 are great value. So the sample bottles have to make sense. you're wasted on here sir ;-)

Thanks dear Ralfy, I am really enjoying Ardnamurchan. It tastes like something new and fresh from an integrity distillery. Kindest regards, S.

From young companies come the 300 year old distilleries that everyone...nearly everyone enjoys. Hi ralfy-

How do you decide if you should buy a bottle of whisky from a new distillery? Well , you have to be honest with yourself. Can you tolerate very young whisky? Because you know it’s going to be very young, there’s no way around it. If you can’t, save yourself the trouble. Are you willing to pay more than it’s worth? Because that’s another thing about these bottles: objectively speaking, you can buy better whisky with the same amount of money. If you’re curious about new whisky, you have some money to spend , and realize that these distilleries know they have to make a good first impression, therefore they have to put out their best possible product, I would say go for it. But, again, know what you’re getting yourself into, otherwise you’ll be disappointed.

Very insightful! This makes me very excited about the future bottlings of these companies. I’m glad I started listening to this channel at the very beginning when I started hunting for quality whisky. I’ve surprised some seasoned Scotch drinkers with many of the bottlings coming out of Raasay, Torabhaig, Ledaig, Ardnamurachan, Edradour, and Kilkerran. I also bought the last bottle of Glencadam 15 at $65! What a value! One in particular is a huge Macallan fan. He was taken back by the Ardnamurachan AD, Glencadam 10, the Torabhaig Alt Gleann. He couldn’t believe what I paid compared to his 15 and 18 year Macallan bottles.

The fact that the previous whisky doesn’t count toward the new whisky being a blend makes about as much sense as using a cask that contained urine and then telling me there isn’t piss in my whisky… just saying.

Hi Ralfy.. A question. Have you tried "The Hearach"? Isle of Harris. I find it novel. NAS but unchill filtered and natural colour (on the label). If you haven't tried it I do recommend it. In New Zealand it is a reasonable price. I have batch #2. They are up to batch #12

Glenwyvis. Case in point. Tried it. It's young and that's the nicest thing to say but they want premium money for a bottle. I very much doubt that I'll go near a bottle for the money want.

I bought a peated single cask Ardnamurchan as my first experience with them and I absolutely hated it. It did not match the tasting notes at all, it was primarily a menthol bomb, for me at least. I can't bring myself to give their standard bottling a chance, having paid over $100 for this unpleasant experience.

When Ralfy tastes it for us, it´s that simple 😂. Or when it appears in local whisky bar, and it is possible to taste it for less.

Thanks! That's one of these things: when you say it, it is an "of course" for me. But as someone who is not so connected with the production, it has up to now escaped my thoughts. Good one!

Ralfy- is there a term for the distillery using a fresh cask from another distillery? I would call it “piggy-backing” which implies the cask has just been used for a whisky, but now is being used (most likely) for another distillery (your Caol Ila example). Thanks for the info, Cheers!!!
@robfut9954

Young whisky is fine… as long as they charge young whisky prices. And if they want to charge more, they need to bottle at VERY high ABV, at natural color and not chill-filtered. And if they intend to twist my nips on the pricing it should be cask strength and small batch with some disclosure. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the norm. So I rarely buy young whisky unless it’s cheaper than the older stuff.

Talking about newer distilleries, I wonder why you haven't yet reviewed the Wolfburn 10 which I recently saw here in Ontario for $97 and picked one up. I know you had good things to say for a rather obscure cask strength early version that we as Canadians can't get our hands on lol. Sending you warm greetings and Regards Ralfy.
