I don't know if I get get this here Ralfy but you can be sure I'll be out to the shops to see if they can order me a bottle. My Uncle Fred used fresh cut willow or hazel for his divining rods and people had him locate the spot to sink their wells back in the 1940's and 50's. That's all gone now with professional well drillers with water table charts and computers. Very enjoyable review! Sincerely, Ossie

I haven't had the chance to try the 8 year but the 12 is tied for my favorite malt with Old Pulteney 12

Now that you talked about divining and provenance and terroir, I'm curious about what kind and quality of whisky will result from the new distillery that opened up here in town... I guess I'll have to wait for that first bottling in 2019.

I have been very much enjoying my bottle of the Kilkerran 12. Really beginning to enjoy what I am finding as a distinctive Campbeltown flavor, which I identify as a nutty almond confectionary spice quality- marzipan, really. Not as sweet as cake, and definitely not the bubblegum/birthday cake one sometimes finds in lower quality speyside or highland malts... what I’m finding is richer, dryer, more spice rack complexity. My local independent shop (Chicago, USA) has the cask strength 8-year. I think I’ll save a few dollars for a bottle.

Hi Ralfy. You forgot to mention one more thing about those stills from Ben Wyvis. The guys at Glengyle also got them re-shaped as they found them too angular. That too must've had a profound influence on the spirit.

Found a shop w couple of bottles of these. Grabbed one at premium. Hopefully it’s worth it. Will report back w my take. Cheers

Funny enough, it didn't sell that fast.here in the Netherlands. The W.I.P. Bottles (bourbon cask)were gone in a day But I'm afraid it will sell out soon now. Hopefully the price stays reasonable!

I love that you got the Dijon mustard! I noticed that too. I enjoy food and whisky combinations. Drink this with some dutch cheese and mustard and you'll be in heaven!

i've tried this Kilkerran! it was quality!!

Had this at a tasting recently. Loved it -- IMO didn't need that much water and was fine straight up. With water it definitely unraveled nicely.

Just bought a bottle of this, prefer this over the 12yr old.

Where can we read more about use of diving rods for distillery placement?

My grandfather when he as alive, used to be able to use divining rods to locate water underground. It was really a stunning thing to see and highly unusual. Brilliant video as always Ralfy, you Mainstream Mappist!

Thanks for the review, keep preaching the malty gospel. Haven't had a bad Kilkerran yet. About the stills of Ben Wyvis... On the KilkerranSingleMalt RU-vid-page Frank McHardy mentionned that they did rework the stills because they were too angular if you will, with too many sharp edges. And the mill was given to them for free, it used to be at Craigellachie Distillery.

Drinking the 12yo as I watch this... delicious Whisky. Trying to put my finger on the flavours... closest thing I have in my small collection it comes close to is the Mackmyra Brukswhisky.
