Lucky me, I live in Texas and all of the frat boys are so busy chasing Blanton's for their instagram pics, that they don't even give quality spirits like Foursquare, Kilkerran, or Springbank a second look! Long live the Bourbon hype!!!

I saw Springbank appear at Spec’s in Fort Worth about a week before Thanksgiving and very quickly disappear. There’s more Scotch Savants in Texas than we think. I was able to grab me a bottle of Ardnamurchan the day before Thanksgiving at Spec’s and a Balblair 12 at Total Wine. Visiting in-laws in Texas for holidays paid off lol.

Hi Ralfy, great to be mentioned on your channel again. That bottle is a blast from the past - I imagine from one of your visits with Raymond - I enjoyed the story about your first visit to the distillery in your book. Only a few more years and our spirit distilled since we took over will be 8 years old - perhaps a return of a young Bladnoch? Until then, what we release will always non chill filtered, natural colour and 46%+ (and on the contract that is the label) with age statements where we can. Also what great company of other brands you select - especially impressive what Annabel is doing at Nc'nean.
@danw1086

Bladnoch to give you some honest feedback I have to say that your whiskies are good but they are too pricy. I have a bottle of your 11 year old open at the moment. I'm enjoying it. But I won't be replacing it. £65 is too expensive imo.

I guess I’ll be leaving you one of the more positive comments. I have only had your 10 yr old in the square bottle. Loved it so much I bought 4 bottles. It was purchased at a Total Wine in south Florida for @$50. Love the price. Stay fair with those prices and quality, and I’m your customer for life. Merry Christmas to your team.

@@danw1086 Thanks for the feedback Dan. We have released Vinaya which is below £50 and much lower on special if you keep an eye out. To give you some context on why prices of our age statements are going up, in 2022 we will produce only 9000 bottles of 11yo. We sell Bladnoch in 55 countries now and they are all after our age statements - this means the prices to have to go up to meet demand. Not to mention the 30%+ increase in costs of dry goods and the 600% increase in freight (which we hope isn't sticking around for long). Sadly the Armstrongs didn't produce any Bladnoch from 2009 until they sold, and it took us a few years to renovate, so there is no whisky from 2009-2016 to keep producing age statement whisky. So the 11yo you have there is from the same set of barrels we will use next year and then in 2023. I wish I had more to sell, but unfortunately we only have the casks that we do. More coming from Bladnoch however at a range of prices, and maybe even a single digit age statement Bladnoch like Ralfy refers to here?
@bladnochdistillery1619
@bladnochdistillery1619 2 года назад
@@SaltyCuban That's great to hear. The price of the 11yo is up a bit from the 10yo, but you have the new Vinaya in the USA now. We are very thankful that Scotch tariffs have been lifted - they weren't good for anyone.

A good example of non rested spirit is sometimes vodka : when a brand is bottled without resting, its very very clear to the nose and palate. Dramatic supermarket perfume scents is an thing. It often needs a couple of days to a week of resting with a good air-liquid ratio in the bottle of your choice to get REAL better.

What I'm buying at the moment and also for the last couple of years : Glen Moray (do have over 50 different bottles here at home), Glen Scotia, Glenfarclas, Springbank, Glencadam, Arran, Bunnahabhain and Kilchoman. Honestly, it will be very difficult to get some good whisky in 2022. for us outside EU and after Brexit. I just spoke recently with very desperate owner of an online whisky shop. He said that it's almost impossible to get whisky imported from the UK, because they consider us a minor market for some serious export involvement. And on the other hand, any scotch whisky imported from the EU gets taxation of unbelievable 30% on the UK export prices. So, current stocks are slowly melting down, it's very difficult and expensive to import anything new, si 2022. will be a dry year for us.

Foursquare is a sign of exceptional quality, but unfortunately got extremly hard to buy in retail in UK - at this point there are raffles for a chance to buy, as flippers buy whole stock for auctions. One I just had to pass along Ralfy. Tried the current batch of Talisker Skye ? ..Its currently on sale at a very reasonble price in some of the big supermarkets; and its now one of my firm favourites. My take on it is that it seems to have a very well rounded set of warm flavours, no harshness (considering its a 45%er !), and just the right amount of smokeyness sitting on top. Very curious as to what you'd make of it.

I don't chase the trendy bottles or pay secondary prices. I just look for quality like you say. If a retailer jacks up the prices, they don't get my sale. I will! I'll support scotch now and beyond 2022 if at all possible. It is the best tasting substance on earth that I have tried: Glenlivet 18(43%) and Oban 14. Yes they don't taste the same, but when you try them you'd say "yes that is scotch whisky", and that is the flavor I'm talking about. That one root undeniable flavor that all scotches have that distinguish it from all other substances. I'm to amateur at this to describe what I mean any better. Am very much, for the first time in my life, looking forward to trying more brands of scotch over the coming holiday season.

I just purchased Forty creek masters cut Canadian whisky. It was a bit expensive but the distilling process was very very unique. The distillery took old whisky which was over Oaked and did a single slow redistill of each batch. (Less congeners were removed) the new make came off the still at 44.5%! They then put the spirit into a mix of ex bourbon and refill casks for 5 years and bottled it at a rare 48.5 % cask strength. (No added sherry or anything). I know it may be hard for you to review but I thought you might find the process intriguing!

Indeed transparency is severely lacking. I find it odd that on one hand, Nc'Nean touts itself as "organic" yet won't state that it has no artificial color. One would think that would be a basic requirement. Of course in America, you can label your product "organic" but if it doesn't have the USDA Organic seal on it (as if that makes a difference nowadays), then chances are it's not organic. I wish bourbons and, now, the up-and-coming American Single Malts would be required to put age statements on their bottles. Especially ASMs since they're clearly mimicking Scotch. But there's little stringent requirements for bourbons (even for straight bourbons); if they were meaningful then age statements would be required, along with what grains are in it, whether it has artificial color, its filtration process, etc. It's hit-and-miss with American so-called standards. Nevertheless, I think my 2022 goal is to delve into ASMs.
@SteelheadTed

All those criticisms of bourbon can be leveled at any spirit. Rules for bourbon (2 years old, aged in new oak barrels, etc.) is about as stringent as any spirit.

Bladnoch went off my radar after the buyout …I liked Raymond …maybe his spirit is trickling through …i hated the premium bottling style and premium pricing

I'm completely the opposite. Bladnoch was not on my radar until Prior purchased it and used his contacts here in Australia to actually get it distributed. It's hands down the only Lowlands distillery I can reliably obtain without performing mail order gymnastics and paying mail order tax. I'm very much enjoying the red wine cask 17 year old - one of the few wine cask finishes I would recommend and enough has been said about the 10/11 already.

Would be interesting to compare the prices of this selection today to what it will be in 2 months time. What will the influence be from this video……. Just saying

Just out of interest, Ralfy, just wondering if you have tapped into the trend of recent years of Craft Beer brewers creating Whisky Barrel Aged Imperial Stouts? If you have tried any, what do you make of them as a serious whisky drinker? Cloudwater did some really excellent Christmas Stouts some years back, one using Ardbeg Barrels and another unspecified as Speyside. Brewdog do a lot in their Abstrakt special range, but it generally Bourbon Whiskey (probably because the style was brought to prominence in the US)

. . . I have tried them, then moved onto the lighter, dry IPA/hops ales.

@@thewhiskybothy I have to admit that Stouts are my go to beverage and have just lately got more into Whisky. I like a good IPA. Mainly DIPA though, unless I am a session ;-) Split between the hop bomb west coast & juicy East Coast styles. Just waiting in for a bottle of Arran 10, which I am sure you'll approve of :-)
