Man his content just makes me wish Bugbear would make a mini rally game on wreckfest's engine. It'd be so cool to have a more arcade offering for a rally game again, sth to go a separate way from the sim-oriented offerings of dirt rally and wrc titles (like v-rally 4 tried a couple years ago). Well. I'd love them to make a really realistic rally trophy remake, well as far as this engine would let them, but I really would like to see complex damage like separate shock absorbers gating blown from the impact and all that suff.
I never thought I'd see Wreckfest on this channel, and I'm so glad I did! I love that game. I always play with my wheel, pedals, and h pattern shifter, and always in cockpit view. I think it drives really well using them.
Wreckfest is used effectively as a sim for the banger racing and UK oval racing community despite it being a more arcade style focus. Even more so on PC with the mods available, almost every UK oval track is downloadable for Wreckfest
honestly: wreckfest is really the guilty pleasure of all of us simracers. just letting loose and don't give a flying one about sweating it to avoid contact and to produce consistent lap times. it's just a very fun game, good looking for its age and physics and ffb are defo completely fine for what it is. I'd play wreckfest anytime after a few sweaty races.
I can't put my finger on why exactly, but your videos are always so satisfying to watch! Is it your trustworthy voice? Is it your raw talent? Is it the visuals? I honestly don't know. But I like it!
I play a LOT of Wreckfest, and I use only the wheel and cockpit cam. I go "full sim", with all assists off, H-shifter and clutch, only thing I change is that I set the traction control to half (believe me, it's a nightmare playing without it) and off I go. Got 6:13 on the tournament, but there's room for improvement. But boy was I happy to see a rally stage on a game that has perfect physics for it AND a beautiful rally skin for the Boomer RS, which is obviously based on the Escort, that is also one of my favorite rally cars of all time. I can truly say that this morning was like Christmas to me when I saw the event news lol
Stability control half, traction control off is worth trying. It'll let you get a little bit looser if you want to, but the stability control allows you to hold a powerslide rather than spin out.
A 7.44 mile long racetrack in Wreckfest is a bit insane, especially since this is a rally circuit. Trying to do a single lap is gonna be a challenge, let alone a whole race with either AI or Online competitors.
I tried to race this map with 3 laps and 23 bots. Even with super venom i couldnt finish even one lap. But this is still one of best remastered games, bugbear just put one game into another, i never saw any other devs doing sth like this.
It's funny, I saw this update earlier today and immediately thought of your previous rally trophy video, I'm glad to see a video on this specifically, weeckfest's a great game for those of us without wheels but it's always impressive seeing someone throw a car around the game using a wheel and pedals.
yeah, that looked like so much fun...I got to have a go at this. And I have a suggestion for you. The first sim I really did compete back in the days (not the first sim I had though) was the fabulous TOCA 2 Touring cars from Codemasters. I had it on Playstation. Maybe you want to have a look at that?
I got this game just the other day and I thought it was content I unlocked from progressing. Honestly this is really cool to see from Bugbear and shows they care about the community they have.
Thanks for covering this. I'd missed it completely until your tweet. I agree, I really wish more devs would do this. I feel like that's a little bit of the reason we got the Lotus 79 and 49 in iRacing, but I would love to see a Gen-4 Cup car and a mid-90s Indy car.
I spent much of my early 20's playing Rally Trophy and RBR on my good ol Logitech Formula Force GP, lol. Seriously though the historic rally appeal of Rally Trophy made it a lot more fun to me than RBR was, and I have compared every rally game I have played since then to Rally Trophy. With the positive reception of this DLC to Wreckfest, I really hope Bugbear considers a Rally Trophy 2.0. One thing most of the current Rally titles are missing is a decent damage model.
I know this video is a year old now but tuning your car for off-road is super important! A lot of those turns are much easier with gravel and loose surface tuning.
Wreckfest is not a hardcore sim but the damaged level is unbeateble.Litterly everything on the tracks can be damaged in a verry realistic way.Tyre barriers where you run into and the tyres are all over the track and they stay there.The replays are so much fun to watch
I would personally LOVE to see Bugbear make a clean racing game! The handling in Wreckfest is incredibly nice and satisfying, wish more racing games were like it to be honest
Man, I haven't even touched a driving game since Rally Trophy. I loved that game. I was crap at it, of course, especially because of keyboard, but still. Especially fond memories of the lackadaisical music.
I still have fond memories of a custom Rally Championship we did in Grand Prix Legends. Stu "Madcowie" would make a custom track and we would all have a week to set a time. Still can't believe he could make tracks so quickly.

so yes 13:28 is where russia stage 1 begins 15:05 is where russia stage one ends... then there's part that was specifically added to wreckfest for the loop. 15:30 where the crowd stands Russia stage 2 begins, 17:00 is where russia stage 2 ends and theres another part added specifically for wreckfest to complete loop so much nostalgia brought back by this game... fierce rivalry with H. Koppinen
Man this might bring me back to that game. I loved Wreckfest coming from the original Flatout games but I didn't quite like how everything was demolition derby. I enjoy the game engine a lot but not so much the aesthetics of the cars themselves anyway. Still definitely an absolute classic in the making
Rally Trophy right up there in top Rally games with Richard Burns, Hoping Bugbear does more Rally.

This feels like that time Valve added the original Dust 2 (with the 2000 graphics) into CSGO in 2019 for the 20 years of the original Counter-Strike ! But yeah, this tracks looks like the whole stage 1 of Rally Russia, plus sections of SS2 and SS3 (they just "patched" a few shortcut exploits). I don't have Wreckfest yet but since Rally Trophy was my most influencial game and I've grinded Rally Russia like nobody's business, I'll obviously try it !
I was shocked to learn that The Espendalen (not spelling it right) is a real life track in wreckfrest. I noticed in Raceroom the track Valerbanen had the same layout, loaded it up and it was almost literally spot for spot detail exactly like the Wreckfest track. So not shocked that they would copy a rally stage.
My two favourite rally anecdotes both come from Colin Bond. He started his career in a Mitsubishi Colt, but when he joined the Holden Dealer Team he had to switch to a big, heavy, V8-powered Monaro (they had to maintain the fiction that it was a rally car that happened to work at Bathurst, to sidestep GM's racing ban). He said in the Colt if you went off the road you had to zigzag between the trees, but in the Monaro you just put it in first gear and pushed the trees over! The other was (from memory) from his first rally. It was the middle of the night, he and his navigator were totally lost, so when they saw a light in farmhouse they decided they might as well ask for directions. They asked the surprisingly understanding farmer to show where they were on the map; he had a quick look and said, "Do you have another map?" Thanks for the tip, I might have to look into Rally Trophy now.
(grins) Watching your first few runs makes my 5:57:04 best time run look like a pro and yet the best time so far in the wrechfest version of this is 5:01:40. I'm still trying to figure out how that guy did that in 5 minutes. The best time I can get was 5:57:04 after dozens of trys. The new stage is due to start either tomorrow or the next day. But I really like these tracs and the wreckfest physics compared to the original Rally Trophy 20 year old physics. Anyway, I was fun watching you crash over and over again. (grins again)
I tried to get Rally Trophy and a couple of other rally sims from around the turn of the millennium to run around a decade ago and didn't have much luck. I seem to remember having trouble getting a wheel to work and binding controls with pretty much all of them. My memory is vague but I think I also had some game breaking bugs and crashes too. I should really investigate if there are fixes for any of them.
It works well if you use a head tracker script and pipe tobii/trackIR into a virtual right stick on a virtual controller. I agree though it's super rough without one, esp. when you're used to driver/hood view.
Fun video mate. Its a pity Wreckfest is more tuned to the controller rather than a wheel, its a hard case game. Do you play BeamNG much? The physics in that have improved heaps, its a quite a decent driving sim now. I have been driving the Escort in WRC10 lately. Personally i think WRC feels one of the most realistic to drive to me.

Actually to me it seems that wreckfest physics are more realistic than original Rally Trophy. Maybe I am not remembering it right, but in Rally Trophy the car would just glide slugishly from side to side without any precision in counter-steering, while in wreckfest you can and have to do more steering.
@@GPLaps Oh, yeah... I'd even say it is not precise enough to be played with wheel, because I think it's designed for gamepads. At one point Early Access version was more on a sim side so it was quite nice with the wheel.
I haven't played Wreckfest for exactly a year. No way I'm missing a rally stage in Wreckfest! Really wish they threw in at least turn #s on the screen tho!
I suppose I need to check back through the trailers, but I wonder if GT7 will still have the rally stages, and if so, how that aspect may have shifted from GT6 or GT Sport.
Nice to see you play Wreckfest, man :) There are some really, really quick drivers in multiplayer. It might not be the most hardcore simulation, but it’s surprisingly good, considering. If there’s ever a GPLaps community event, I’m definitely there :D
So you played IndyCar 2005 just before they announced a new Indy game. So you played Rally Trophy just before this came along. I'm starting to see a pattern here... Can you review GTR2 perhaps? Maybe they'll finally announce GTR3 (for real this time).
When using a steering wheel, in addition to turning off driving assists, also remember to set steering sensitivity and steering speed sensitivity to 0%, under settings > advanced. Otherwise the game will mess with your input.

I would have half-expected Alex from FailRace or Eddie Soundhead do something like this, they're the Wreckfest aficionados. Joking aside, this is quite a fitting tribute to Bugbear's heritage, and if anything it shows that Wreckfest can handle a circuit design of more than 2 miles length. Would it be too early to say "Nordschleife"??
I guess I'm a try hard too... I play Wreckfest all the time on my Simucube DD 😂 It's great with a wheel and shifter... it actually is an advantage to use clutch dump at race starts.
"...there's clearly some reality going on here..." - completely destroys car running into a single piece of warning tape! They just don't make tape like they used to in old rally games! Have you ever tried Mobil 1 Rally Championship? From 1999, using real map data for realistic roads and stages. Anyway, this was loads of fun!
I don't care about wreckfest but I would love to see a HD remaster of Rally Trophy because I play it very often as very few games have this simple relaxed gameplay, without drama etc
I love Wreckfest's driving model. But God, I wish they did spin-off with same physics and real racing series (maybe revamp FFB along the way). Just imagine proper BOPed touring cars or vintage rally game built on Wreckfest. They have working (most of the time) multiplayer, AI, gravel&tarmac physics, they have modding framework, years of experience... Well, man can dream.
It's a tough track for me. After about 20 runs I've got my time down to 6.5 minutes. I'll keep trying to do better. Wreckfest is my favorite racing game because it's pure fun.
@@JURacing because a facecam makes it unwatchable to me. You don't need to understand it. I find that the content usually put out by GPLaps is excellent too. Part of the charm is the lack of facecam to me. The focus is on the content. And the expressive commentary is enough "reaction".
Its fine, I know not everyone will like it because most of my videos don’t have it. I think it adds a good connection to more of a ‘fun’ video. There will be more with and without it in the future
This game isn't hardcore....... proceeds to fail miserably. It's a joke........ places at the bottom of the leaderboard. You should turn off all the assists and go online, you have no idea what you're doing.
