Outstanding videography, better than modern coverage. Such an awesome Time Capsule. The late 90s & early 2000s were such a golden era for rally and motor sports
I like rally in this period of time. Never missed a chance to watch the race. Lots of manufacturer, drivers & cars that have potential to be the champion. Not to mention the drama & more adrenaline rush. It all change when everything suddenly become hatchback races
I can't believe this! I can watch all the WRC highlights from the year 2001! I'm in heaven! Or I'm just dreaming. If that's the case, don't wake up me!
I miss the time when the cars were Peugeot, Citröen, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Ford, Sköda, Seat, Toyota. Good times... I never missed a rally in TV in the 2000's. RIP Richard Burns and Colin McRae.
I miss the time when it was Fiat, Porsche, Ferrari, Ford, Audi, Peugeot, Opel, Saab, Austin-Rover and most of all, Lancia, its absence in particular being the biggest loss to rallying in its entire history, if only for the champagne, style, and "imaginative solutions" to victory. Thems were the days.
One thing that always puzzled me here that is not mentioned in the comments is the pace of Armin Schwarz in the Skoda. He straight up challenged for a podium in that tank of a car that the octavia. I know that he finished third on the safari but that was mostly because of the big rate of attrition. Here he was right on the pace. Possibly the most competitive outing of the octavia.
The no1 car of makinen was entered by its standard name while the cars of the no2 drivers had the carisma branding on them since '97. A marketing move more than anything else
4 times Monte Carlo winner is Tommi Makinen Mitsubishi in 1999-2001 and first Subaru Impreza win in 2002 Monte Carlo and last career win when Sebastian Loeb Citroen Xsara joined the senior category for the second time to take his first win but Loeb got caught for illegal tire change at Day 3 with Minor Punishment as well as penalty to drop into 2nd place
Is 2001 the best competitive driver line-up of all time? Look at all the champions; - Solberg, - Mäkinen, - McRae, - Burns, - Auriol, - Sainz, - Gröhnholm - Kankkunen featured in 1000 lakes, Crazy line-up and competition bro.
Yeah, this is really good, I don't even think that the 2001 DVD set has this much coverage. But at least DVD doesn't have that annoying circle spinning in the middle of the screen. Well, you usually get what you pay for :)
Had Mitsubishi allowed Tommi to run the old Evo 6 for the final fours of that season's rallies, i think he'll definitely had a big shot of taking his fifth drivers champion, for examples rally San Remo and Australia is always good to him and to his evo 6 so, lets say he's the best non Peugeot-Citroen, which at the time he might ignore it cause the those drivers didnt have a chance of WDC and only aiming for WCC, Tommi, he'll get a good points by finishing those rallies behind these French cars but way ahead of his main title rivals say in top four places and by the GB rally he can be the championship leader by quite a big point, cause it seemed that this car was not only his car but also his main weapon, the weapon that made him invincible in the last four five years, even though that charm of invincibility had slowly fade away that year but the fact that he still in the race for the championship despite driving arguably an inferior car, said a lot about his connection with that Evo
nzf1boy a little bit late but the reason was that tobacco and alcohol sponsors were allowed in monte carlo where the start, parcferme and podium was, but not in france where stages were held.
Sebastian Loeb Monte Carlo wins 2003,2004,2005,2007,2008,2012 and 2013 Totally 7 times winner in Monte Carlo except 2006 Monte Carlo that was won by New Ford Focus Marcus Gronholm first Ford Focus win in 2006 season beginning when Sebastian Loeb had bad start at Day 1 but returned back to Day 2 to stay positive at 2nd place when Gronholm took first Ford Focus win
It is so sad how Mcrae went out in the heat of the battle. He could have probably won atleast a couple of more championships if his cars were more reliable
Actually the reliability of the focus was terrible. Out of the first 4 rounds he retired from 3 due to mechanical problems. Same thing happened to Carlos Sainz later in the season.
That will have to do until I receive the DVD set in her the U.S. from Amazon.co.uk via their slowness Royal Mail... Then I won't have to do with the idiotic commercials, as well as staring at the stupid circle rolling in the middle of the screen.
