A conversation with Ralph Baydoun - media monitor and analyst, and founder of Influeanswers. Taped live at Aaliya's Books.
A discussion on the wider role of media monitoring and online data analysis, an explanation of social listening and research on state-sponsored weaponization of social media, different tools to measure online content's 'viral' impact, built-in polarization that contributes to the spread of disinformation, and partial curbing measures that platforms - and countries - are taking.

1:26:42 (nodding in agreement) Media literacy is more than recognizing misinformation. It’s understanding who benefits from certain narratives and knowing what are the narratives being pushed in the first place. It feels like this isn’t taught in many countries. It is also true that you can be taught this stuff and still be susceptible. We all are susceptible especially when heightened emotions are involved like right now. Bad actors take advantage of the vulnerability of everyone at this moment. I enjoyed the conversation. I wouldn’t mind a part 2.

1:30:56 Oh I didn’t think about it this way… more comments, less views is a way to maybe spot an echo chamber (aka a community)

1:40:45 I agree with this. Seeing Ralph frustrated with the narratives being thrown around in Lebanon helped me see the bigger picture on some things recently.
