As an FYI Ralph Lauren does offer purple label bespoke suiting. It’s not widely advertised, and typically starts around 8-10k per suit it is a true bespoke experience with an in house tailor. The process for your initial suit is around 12 weeks. They keep your measurements on file which makes subsequent suits with a 6-8 week turn around time.
It wasn't purple label, but I finally started building my own classic style wardrobe, and browsing jackets at my local Goodwill, I found a very nice vintage trench coat from Ralph Lauren, absolutely no damage, and fits like a glove! Always wanted a coat like this, and I was absolutely ecstatic! I knew it was of good quality, thanks to the Gentleman's Gazette, but I didn't realize that it was originally a $600 coat!...I spent $8. Definitely my best find thus far. Thank you as always to you guys for providing all of the information I could ever need to start dressing like a gentleman! I've been a viewer for about 3 years, but i've just begun, and my journey is certainly off to a good start.
Nice, man! Thrift stores are the way to go for suits and other nice clothes like that since they're so much more affordable than what you pay for nowadays and they're often of much better quality so long as you know what you're looking at with materials and all. I recently got a charcoal suit from Goodwill as well as an off white blazer, and a bunch of other stuff too.
In DC, many wealthy people who work in government will donate their old suits, gowns, and accessories to thrift stores, which makes a very nicely dressed 70s and 80s suited homeless population as compared to my hometown in Washington state where it is knits. As the majority wears, it becomes available.
I bought 2 RL Purple garments to celebrate 45 years marriage. A Velvet burgundy dinner jacket & a rope stripe peak lapel suit. Now I understand why RL Purple Label is so good to wear. WOW 💥 you have to wear RL Purple, to understand.
In 2015, a random polo store in a NJ outlet was converted to a Ralph lauren clearance center for a few months and carried tons of RLPL at tremendous discounts. Suits were $150, sport jackets were $100, shirts were $25. It was amazing! I bought a ton and greatly regret not buying much more. Also because I sold most of it and didn’t appreciate how rare of opportunity this was. In particular, really regret not getting tan linen sport jacket that would be amazing every summer.
@@jasonvelazquez2129 jersey gardens back in 2015. This retail garden of Eden is long gone, but I believe the manager in the polo store there was an associate in the old store at the time. Tall older guy with thick glasses
Polos from purple label are well worth double the polo price. They dont lose color ever after washing like the polo ones and they stay soft after every wash. They are also lighter and dont shrink.
I don't fit in Purple label neither does my budget😂. But a signature Polo shirt with pima cotton a must for a timeless collection . Thanks for the video 👍
The trouser and dress shirt offerings from Purple Label in my opinion are actually very high quality in my experience HOWEVER you do have to be more on the slim side otherwise they won't fit you
I used to live in an effluent area where the local Goodwill stores carried a wide range of high-end brands. Certainly, finding a suit, shirt, or tie with the purple label made it without exception into the shopping buggy. As a result, I have four two-piece suits, several shirts and many ties with the unmistakable shiny purple label I would otherwise not be able to afford. Knowing your brands in situations like this allow for a very nice collection of first quality clothing items made for any event you may need to dress for. Some of the shirts are too small but make for a great gift for that hard to buy for family member.
@@paulvsmith Ha,ha,ha. If they're from the States they probably won't get it but I think it's hilarious. Rich people letting rich companies do what they want with impunity.
Great video! I love Ralph Lauren clothing for myself. It consistently fits me very well for my body type. I adore Ralph Lauren Polo Green on a man or, even for myself. On my skin, the dry down smells like freshly baked leftover pie dough topped with cinnamon and sugar. Thanks gents! Have a fantastic week! Lisa
I wore their tuxedo for my wedding. The pants ripped on my wedding day but I fixed it before the event . Cost me like 4k+ . Not worth it . Find yourself an Italian tailor for cheaper
Most of my suits are from the 30s and 40s. The proportions back then work perfectly for my body with a really high rise in the trousers and a fuller drape cut.
When I was younger, money was the reason I couldn't get a Purple Label piece. Now it's stock scarcity, somehow all the pieces I want keep getting cleared out looool
Hi GG I wanted to know if there are any other American brands like RL Purple Label. Brook Brother was great, but recently, quality fell. Michael Kors,Tommy Hilger, and Calvin Kilen are thrash imo
Although the suits used to be made in England I'm going to totally disagree with your concept of the design aesthetic. For me the suits are totally inspired by French Noir, as epitomised by actors such as Alain Delon. They are much less structured than typical English suits, without going as far as the limpness of an Italian suit. I guess its all about the climate you're going to wear it in, as exampled by Ralph Lauren advertising.
We have always had issues in the Pacific Northwest with little bugs eating at our woolens, like my winter scarf. Other than keeping everything inside a cedar chest constantly, what can I do?
When I dress up, I'm more "Corporate Goth" and less prep, but even then I find there are a few RL Purple Label pieces I can incorporate into my wardrobe. Plus, the fall/winter collections are always so cozy!
of course loads of the stuff is gorgeous but a lot of the time you pay for the name, people of modest means who know what they're doing go for little niche brands but there's no way I'm sharing any of my little secrets😉 (plus you could go bespoke for that price)
I much preferred Black Label; which had a more urban / edgy feel, often with automotive references. More Italian cut as well. Shame they got rid of it. Haven't found a comparable replacement.
You pay for exclusive cloth and styling. Great if money is no question, but as said, there are way better alternatives available. Second hand is nice if you can find. I have a cashmere sweater that is one of my favourite, but I bought it used
I love Ralph Lauren Purple label Dinner jackets which I usually buy at half price when they go on sale. The jackets a very well made and fit my body type to the Tee, consider I have a muscular football build. The quality is spot on and you can tell just by looking at it.
My goodness, for all your talk about proper tailoring & sizing, this suit coat is too tight on your chubbiness. The collar on your dress shirt is also too tight. Rafael, it's great to know men's style as well as you do, but to be a real gentleman is to look and be our best. You need to hit the gym brother.
Ralph Lauren makes nice clothes, but I'm a Jos A Bank type of guy. They make the best ties, suits, sport coats, & dress shirts. I've been wearing Jos A Bank brand for many years. Their style is classy/conservative. Wallsteet investment banker presentation.
There's a great clothing store in Seattle called Mario's. I have bought a few purple label items and really enjoy the fit and finish! I was lucky to get them on a markdown!
The RL Purple Label scent is great. 😎👍 I managed to purchase a number of Purple Label items heavily discounted, which makes me like them even more. 🙂 Although it's funny to see the original retail prices are twice or triple (or more) that of the Polo line, but mostly without the brand's logos. I.e. highly sophisticated, without (most) people noticing. 👔😉
I went to a RL in Boston store and saw an overcoat that was amazing and I really liked it. I did not think it was worth the $6000 tag and I probably could find something just as good for much less (even though it hurt to say no to it).
Buy yourself luxury fabrics from Fox Brothers and get a reputable tailor you will pay a third of what RL Purple Label items cost. They also source fabric from Fox brothers.
@@gentlemansgazette I do like the denim. Especially as you asked for selvedge, they have some of the nicest denims with special japanese selvedge and exclusive weaves, indigo dyed. I think denim is their most important product. Other than that I do like their casual flannel shirts. Considering they are offered at SALE prices after every season I think its not too overpriced for their special designs. And they have very nice aran sweaters sometimes.
I don’t think Purple label are worth the money. For the same price I can get a bespoke suite. This also applies to all the other Purple label items. They are not worth the cost.
A bespoke suit with the same fabric and details is going to cost you close to the Ralph price. They make thousands of suits and get a wholesale discount. You’re also playing for the brand and reliability
Nice video. I liked RLPL more when it was less Italian and more English. Also, I think you forgot to mention their fabulous corduroy pants - soft and velvety, and with a lovely patina after a few years of wear. I also politely disagree on the swimwear. Yes, it's not wise to buy a piece for $400, but at $120, which is very realistic, it's one of the nicest options on the market. Their Amalfi styles are fabulous and can be worn as shorts, with a polo. I can't even remember the number of compliments I got from random women (now, this is often a sure way of knowing you're doing classic style wrong, but in the swimsuit area I'll take it every day). So much so that I now get a bit surly when they don't keep coming.
I have to say, I disagree on the shoes. Modern-day, Italian-made Purple Label shoes are miraculous to behold. I already bought a new pair for Christmas, a pair of monk straps, and they are…gorgeous🤩 They are 100% made by hand (still bench made), even the varnish is applied with paint brushes and finished in the “Berluti” style. The leather is soft, the soles are comfy and even have arch support, and the outer sole is wood! They are exceptional and the only comparable shoes are, as he mentioned, Edward Greens or Berlutis or any other fully handmade shoe, but it really does stand right next to them!
So I just bought the hoodie that you showed with the ski bear, lol I actually love it and have been wearing it a lot and I’m getting my moneys worth in wear and comfort
Well my good man, if you are going to advise men on what to wear you should take a little peek in the mirror first. Your tie is crooked and your jacket looks to be a size too small.
@@gentlemansgazette Thank you for asking. Richard anderson is almost a 100 percent handmade, it has the savile row DNA, plus they offer a maintanece service for their suits, the owner is one of the top tailors in the world, he supervisors the whole process on the ready to wear line. This is comparing with the ralph laurent purple label made in england Brioni cut, finish, handmade details are superior agains the ralph, Laurent purple label made in italy In my experiance, you can take a look on a simple item as the ties, Brioni tie is 2 or 3 times better than PRL P. Tom ford the style is sharper, more elegant and bolder , plus ermenegildo zegna couture provides their fabrics and they manufacture thieir suits, as you know Zegna provides one of the best fabrics in the world.
I have only ever tried on suits and blazers from the purple label collection in a few stores. I think the styles are often very cool and unique, but I find the cut of the garments to be pretty strange. I feel like I’m trying on a suit that was custom made for someone with a very different body shape from my own.
Nothing from Ralph Lauren is worth the money. 1000 euros for a cardigan that’s made in China of a little bit of of wool, cotton and a lot of plastic, or 250 euros for a cardigan from William Lockie in 100% wool, made in Scotland? The choice is clear. I’m not saying the quality is bad, but you can get better stuff for less money if you can live without the horse on the chest.
Would you consider the Purple Label line to be constructed in the same way as Ralph Lauren's lower-end collections? Or does Purple Label include examples of craftsmanship at a higher end?
@@gentlemansgazette Purple Label is absolutely of a higher standard. That doesn’t mean it could (and should) be priced way lower. 5000 dollars for an OTR suit is ridiculous when you can get, say, a Ring Jacket suit (which imo is of a higher quality than RLPL) for 1000-2000.
No doubt purple label is excellent quality and a good option if you are lazy and rich. I got a purple label flannel shirt for around 200 €, the original price being over 400 €. It's a great shirt, but no way it would be worth to pay the full price (unless you are, once again, lazy and rich). Only thing I wish they would lose are the tacky logos in some of their products if they want to have a believable old money vibe. I'm not old money, but I would believe that the people of that heritage wouldn't be publicly seen wearing flashy logos.
