Ralph Nader was the principal inspiration for my life-long avocation in environmental, peace, and civil rights advocacy. Long live this icon and all his legacy organizations.
There's a great movie from 1956 called "Patterns" that shows just how cold blooded corporations can be toward their employees clear up to the CEO. The story was written by Rod Serling, a fantastic writer.
Freedom? Park at the beach in California: “no smoking, no camping, no drinking, no fires, no dogs off leash, no parking sitting certain hours etc etc etc etc”. These are public beaches! Using tax payer funds. But the right to carry a long gun. Can’t touch that. What about the right to be poor and sleep in a car? Nope. The right to enjoy the beaches? Nope. The right to sell goods to tourists?.. nope. The right to health care? … nope. Just guns. The right to guns
I'm on SSI Disability after the Ohio GOP had Political Mechanics put forever farm chemicals in my windshield car vents and laced my cigarette packs while I'm working in the Ohio Honda factory paying working wage taxes. Corporate Crime
I checked on the claims of the Medicare advantage plans and found that they are a rip off. Didn't sign up. Besides, I have VA Healthcare for free...and I don't know about anyone else, but the VA has done great for me. -weezi-🙏💖🙏💜🙏🤠
I literally was pretty much forced to get the Medicare disadvantage after I got a $9000 hospital bill for a necessary surgery. And then after I purchased it, and it was not cheap, I needed an iron infusion which was denied AFTER I received the transfusion, because it was a pre-existing condition. I didn’t realize that there was a three month waiting period for pre-existing conditions so I am without any iron infusion for a few months now until their period ends. Only in America!!! I just hope I don’t pass out from low blood~ MEDICARE FOR ALL…Bernie Sander’s style. There is also no hearing, dental or eye care,so I have to pay for that separately from another agency. I tell everyone that I can that Medicare is the cruelest joke in America to the older people. LOVE TO Amy, Ralph and Bernie!!
@@abc33155 She basically explained that, after receiving a ridiculous hospital bill the only option she was given besides paying out-of-pocket was to sign up for a "supplemental" insurance plan because Medicare didn't cover the care she needed
That American model was exported to the whole globe. Here in Jordan we have waiting period for pregnancy, effectively considering it a pre-existing condition. Actually some insurers will not cover you for a year if you get pregnant.
@@kpopgrrl Ok, that’s not Medicare Advantage. Advantage can have some vision, dental, and hearing coverage. Some even give you a lot of free money to spend. You can only enroll October 15 - December 7 though.
@@abc33155 they are good to me human advantage plan payed for my teeth 0 out of pocket eye glasses $100 out of pocket. A tireless fighter against corporate power and malfeasance. A hero. Thank you Ralph, and thank you Democracy Now! for keeping this living legend on the airwaves!
Large U.S. Voter/Non-Voters extremely Complacent/Apathetic to "Workings" of Congress ,& huge "Lobbyist peddling" truly Confuses the American Public, that even Progressive Congressional members hold back, not truly fighting for their Constituents, nor Public as a whole, including Current Prez. Biden & previous Presidents ❓❗
I'm so grateful to Democracy Now ! for posting the phone interview with Mr Nader. I'm looking forward to reading a copy of the paper and have shared this video to FB and my friends. Can't express the hope and discouragement I feel at the same time Thanks, again.
I did too. Yet his last run for President split the Democratic vote. He should have thrown his weight behind the Democrats JUST TO STAY in the game. Then we got Bush. 🤷🏼♀️
I'm in the UK but I remember the Democrats vilifying Ralph Nader for daring to stand and "splitting the Democrat vote". Because of course no-one should ever challenge the two party system.
The GOP has wanted to end Medicare and Social Security for decades. Why any elderly person would vote for them is just crazy. It makes no sense that people vote against their own self interests. How well would many elderly live without Medicare or Social Security.
I support ending Social Security ~only~ for Republican voters... They don't want it, the'd vote to undermine and end it, so take it away from them only... How many recipients would remain red if faced w/their party taking money /food away from them???
Something about paying $100k plus into social security just to get monthly checks of $1,100 when you're a few years away from dying doesn't seem right. F**k Republicans and f**k the ponzi scheme of social security.
@@colt.4556 no, they pay in as always to remain an American who cares about their country, or get out...they just opt to lose their entitlement to it, as is their selfish desire to undermine that which they do not actually understand...when it comes to patriotism, it pays attention to what they do, not what lies they say about themselves... Mexican workers working the crappy jobs here also pay in w/o an option to receive the benefits...put those commie reds on the same status as the migrant workers...
I love hearing from Ralph Nader- it's no wonder the Two-party Establishment doesn't heed voices like his. He represents citizens and workers, and exposes Corporate malfeasance & political do-nothings.
Love Ralph Nader. Thank you for appearing. We need to stop taxing Social Security which Reagan started. 40% of seniors have it as their only money in retirement. Private insurance are destroying our health system. Single payer would be cheaper especially drugs.
I talked to a representative at the Medicare office of government because my husband got fooled by a commercial for Medicare advantage. The rep said cancel immediately and do not sign up with any insurance companies flooding tv with advertising their Medicare. The short time my husband was enrolled messed up his billing. Thankfully, it was caught quickly.
the system strive on misrepresentation/misleading.there should be more government initiatives and regulations. Washington lobbyists/bribery already take care of that.
You are a legend Ralph. I hope you are mentoring up some young passionate change agents before you retire, but I get the feeling you’re never going to retire. Even though I’m in Australia I will subscribe to the paper.
While I thank Mr. Nader for his advocacy work, I have to say that the way to democracy and justice requires a 2-pronged approach. We, the citizens have the responsibility to hold government accountable for their incompetencies and demand service of any kind. The government is responsible to deliver. We only complain without playing our part. We send incompetent people to Congress year after year and expect new results. As George Carlin eloquently said, may be it’s not just the government that sucks, maybe people suck too.
George Carlin and Ralph Nader, what a dream team that could've been - Ralph would show that their brainless, and George would surprise everyone with street wisdom describing their other inadequacies.
And CALLING MY CELL PHONE like CRAZY 😧.Most on Medicare do not even understand it or know what's going on with it.Educate yourselves about this People.
Thats right Linda! I have folks live around me that were suckered into turning over their medicare to the private robbers with offers of free food. Then they want to know why they sre being charged large copays when they visit a doc. These will wonder when they get really sick and their policy wont pay
@@evelyndominguez4757 that’s exactly what I used to do. But since they have so many phone lines and numbers, I felt as tho I were stepping on ants. There’s quadrillions of ants. Same for bogus/spam call numbers. I ultimately had to ignore them and turn off all notifications and alerts.
Exactly, same with the democrats. Bill Clinton's good friend Epstein makes the perfect case. Jeffery was friends with people on both sides of the isle.
$400,000 per year is not indicative of the population of this country. At the height of my career as a critical care nurse, nursing supervisor, I never made more than $80,000 per year. Let's get real about the money movement and generation of same in this country.
Nader please tell us how the people can capture congress. Thank you for mentioning the fact that workers are getting sick from the chemicals in their work space.
Reducing social security, will be an economic disaster and suppression of the main incentives of USA 🇺🇸 workforce to produce loyaly and contribute to society !
I have seen management become angry at safety recommendations. This took place when the suggested remedy cost pennies compared to the money being lost due to accidents. There is a problem there beyond money. It has to due with power and control. Notice, people mention the word slavery more often now in reference to labor and employment.
I seriously just love this guy !!!! Even the sound of his voice is comforting to me. He's just too cool ! An one of my (kind of unusual perhaps) long time crushes TBH 😘 🤭 OMG such a cutie pie indeed ! ! 🤗 I guess 🧐👉 it's just one of those smart 🧠 is friggin 🔥HOT🔥 type of things IDK, but I've had quite a thing for this man since way back in the 1980's when I was in high school. I've always been a little (a lot ?) diffrent than the other girls. Yep 🤷🏼♀️ its truth .🤗 LoL 🤭 !
Ralph Nader wrote a book titled how the American motorist is swindled out of billions of dollars every year approximately 55 years ago . I was supper impressed with the main theme or Trusth of this man and his book 55 years ago so to hear him trash concrgress the way he did says something real bad about concrgress!!
He knows Corporate Law and US system, like riding a bike, to allow people better model of transport, to serve the people, not the few industrialists and Govt sponsors.
Dude! Yes! The 1st time I was old enough to vote, I voted for Ralph Nader! Wish he'd run in 24' bc we NEED him! This whole system is INSANE!!! I literally just learned exactly HOW these people can pay 0 taxes. They take loans from banks, and spend that money which isn't taxed since it isn't earned income. Then they make up their own charities, donate to them, get the taxes back and their money? And my dumbass seriously thought the stock market was based on REAL actual money, and that it went up and down bc ppl gave and took their money in and out...NOPE! Lol I wish I cared enough to learn these things when I was younger. I swear I would've done any and everything I could to change the damn world bc the ridiculous s*hit that all these people are dead focused on and wont let go is exactly what divide and conquer looks like. And the whole system is wasting our time and money while being the OPPOSITE of a public servant. They get ppl to fight over the dumbest things that have no affect on our lives, then they laugh it up while they drive their foreign cars back to their mansions, then check their 6 to 7 figure bank accounts, send the money to other countries to avoid more taxes, buy gold, jewelry, clothes, cars, EVERYTHING FOREIGN designer shit while I can't even get a cavity filled. The best King is an even better servant. I need funded to run for president dammit lol not to mention the bilderberg group sh*t. Idek if there is hope for humanity anymore. Too bad I'm a delusional optimist and I won't allow myself to be convinced that people can't be shown the truth and what is fair and decent. It's all in how you talk to certain people. Ugh.
An Idea: Let's add a fourth branch to our government called: THE PEOPLES BRANCH, and let's have this fourth branch allow people a full vote on all pending legislation. That way the politicians will have to pay attention to what we really want.
Worked at a Steel Mill for 11 years. Dangerous places. And yes many people killed for different reasons and the workers get blamed for the deaths. The truth in the case I'm referring to was unnecessary deaths were caused by impossible corporate decisions that engineers and foremans warned were dangerous conditions.
The right-wing slant has been going on for a long time. I remember as a kid more than 40 years ago, people bagging on Ralph Nader for trying to make cars safer. He has probably prevented millions of deaths by his efforts.
@@billwalsh388 the government didn’t need to do anything to enforce cars to be safer. A free market would do it itself. If the consumer really wanted a safer car. They’d buy one. But most people want something that is fast, looks good, sound good, and so on. People might have said “oh yeah I want a safer car” but they sure didn’t buy one
@@seanbrennan7071 Naw Bro, they cried when they were asked to put seat belts in their cars " Waaaa, that will put us out of business" same old story they are spewing today, so don't even try to give me that free market nonsense.
@@billwalsh388 but it’s true. In a free market the buyer tells producers what they want. And if they don’t make what they want. They go out of business.
@@seanbrennan7071nd what if all of the car companies make a back room deal that none of them will agree to improve safety? So there is no other place to go for the consumer. There is no “free market.” The market is what humans make it, specifically the ones with money who make it. We see this with every single company and corporation. They’ve manipulated to decrease competition (because someone will always sell to make a huge profit) and then because they control that sector, do what they want with prices. Pharmaceuticals, healthcare, grocers, food/agriculture, ISPs, entertainment, autos, hospitality/services, air travel, technology.
Social security should save more young lives, expanding eligibility for more conditions warranting unable bodied ppl like myself and be shredded of its bureaucracy perhaps starting with more transparency and susceptibility to the public. Ppl like myself with chronic infections, chronic pain, and chronic fatigue syndrome (not just tired now and then but periods of literal exhaustion) can't hold a fing job.
I was a child when Ralph Nader ran, and I didn’t know how much corporate media played a huge part in his profile. Looking back now, my parents only got their information from TV and news papers. They don’t have the option like we have now.
This man presents knowledge that is meaningful for the public. I enjoyed listening and plan to subscribe to his paper. Knowledge is even more powerful when used. Thank you!
Or hear me out. You just stop paying taxes all together. The government asks you every year what services you want. You pick as many or as little as you want. You pay for only those that you selected. And that’s it. No more theft
I voted for Ralph Nader when he ran for president. Imagine how good things would be now if he would have won, TWICE! But currupt American politics wouldn't allow that!!
I was tricked into Medicare Disadvantage. Fortunately because of being about 65, I was able to change to a "Medigap" plan. But if we had Canadian medicare, we'd be covered. (I know because my late wife qualified for it and I was with her, saw good healthcare in action. She died in Fargo ND in a "hospital")
We love you Ralph!!! Thank you for your tireless work to fight for all of us. People like Ralph Nader and Bernie Sanders and these lifelong fighters they are the ones who deserve to live in a place like Mari Lago. Our country's backwards.

I left the US in 2015 because all I was earning with a Brown U. PhD was bankruptcy. On a visit back, I had to have my gall bladder removed. Instead of out-patient laproscopy, they put me in a room overnight "to wait for an operating room" (no food or water 24 hrs.)---and the bill was $22,500. I refused, paid maybe $5000, and that was that. There's not a single charge US healthcare doesn't inflate at its own whim so a few fatcats can stuff their faces while people suffer and die. So long.
If all the money that's spent on ads and goodies for joining, $75 food a month, gym memberships, they've taken away glasses and dental but a freebie in the contract services. So if the monies form all the ads and the freebies and the beneies that were taken away and all put back in medicare it would be better and cheaper than what we have.
Ralph mater I remember him when I was a young man I'm 73 years old now his name has been always very important to our society giving us information What's good it was bad and I'll go I remember him fighting for our freedom and liberate of information to all and understand I am happy to hear him in his voice that is just so young and very appealing to me at my age I really feel great about hearing Hi would definitely prescribe to your newspaper I believe in everything that you say is real and not fabricated and not to pass me down while I heard from over there what they said are we
Democracy Now! is literally the only news /politics I have watched since 2016 election day. I follow the news only by reading headlines on the internet and reading the stories that seemed to be important.
Great job Amy. Ralph Nader has always been a voice of conscience, and has not lost his touch for persuasion. The "powers that be" have always ignored the truisms that he highlights and delves in to. 👍So much gets swept under the rug and not mentioned.🕳 Shameful.
I'm excited about this real newspaper. I do find myself distracted by msgs when reading the electronic versions. I can have my coffee and kick back with my paper ☕️
Thank you Ralph. We love you. I wish you could lead us out of this swamp. I'm 74, & you are still the voice of courage. My husband & I watch Thom Hartmann. He is a sophisticated person & yet he doesn't see the Truth.
Yes. I rarely watch DN! and never Hartman any longer. However, there are some excellent programs: REDACTED, JIMMY DORE, USEFUL IDIOTS, THE CHRIS HEDGES REPORT, KIM IVERSON, MICHAEL HUDSON, to name a few. They also cover geopolitics.
I was thrilled to hear from Mr. Nader once again. He was a huge name in my teens, and I am most interested in everything he has to say today, now that I have my adult perspective firmly in place. Thank you for your super interview and for your link to his real newspaper!
Thank you Rob Nader the voice of reason I’m ready to stand up with my fellow citizens and take back our representative government. Wow even Bernie is going soft. Who can blame him. I don’t know exactly what they did to him. A populist with Critical thinking skills and a sense of justice. we need Ralph
