A guru is somebody who is a pure mirror, so pure that when you meet that being you immediately see where you are caught. Ram Dass talks about the mirror of the guru, mentioning “I know more than I understand, and I’m intellectually ahead of where I am intuitively.” He ends the lecture with the first chant that he brought back to the states from India in 1967, Rama Rama.

My heart breaks everytime I capture the thought I may not ever meet anyone like him in this life. I wish I had someone i could learn from in my life. In the sense of learning as in recognizing that is. Rama Rama Rama.

Look into yourself, you will find a role model, only he is blocked by the ego. Meditate on psyhedelics and you will know the secrets of the universe. 😊 We are all gods, were just playing the game of hide and seek to have the drama we call life. 😊😂

@@MarinTvarog After hearing stories from Ram Das, Raghu about his dad, and that even their guru said the “yogi medicine” is useful for beginners I really want to try psychedelics just once. But I have no idea on going about finding any. Any suggestions or anyway you can help?

@@bryanwright9352 If I've learned anything from listening to Ram Dass, it's that you don't need the substances, and they can actually be a hindrance. Devotional yoga, mantra, vipassana meditation are all much higher forms of awakening your consciousness.

These talks, this podcast, Baba Ram Dass, and related topics and experiences mean so much to me, but there's always a bittersweet edge to it because it feels so removed. I yearn for these experiences, for a community, for those who get it, but they're in another place or time entirely inaccessible to me. I don't know if they exist anymore, I don't know if that India exists anymore, I don't know if that authenticity (or is it naivety?) exists anymore.

I have been studying ramm dass s material now for about a year, ever since i got clean I've listened to his lectures and I've got to say, his words resonate with my intuitive heart, as he calls it. Thank you to all who contributed to Be Here Now. Getting to a place where your standing nowhere, and thought, ego and even technology becomes a servant instead of a master.

yes its bhajan. as a verb it means worshipping the lord and as a noun (or in practice) its a hymn.

Does anyone know if the whole chant is just Rama? As at certain points Ram Dass seems to sing Ram as oppose to Rama (or is this just my hearing?). Thanks

Ram Dass's guru - Neem Karoli Baba would often chant Ram (only) and also write "Ram" repeatedly. Given this context, it made sense to me when I first heard this that Ram Dass was just repeating Ram and Rama (interchangeable, as other reply said)

afaik, this happens because Hindi has what's known as schwa deletion, which means (in this case) Sanskrit words will often have the final 'a' sound omitted by native Hindi speakers because that's how it's done in Hindi. But in Sanskrit, you're supposed to pronounce every syllable exactly as written. So, in Devanagari, Rama and Ram are written the same way, it's a matter of whether you read it as Sanskrit or Hindi. Rama is a Sanskrit name, the 'Raama' pronunciation is technically the correct one, but when it comes to devotion, it doesn't appear to make a difference to the experience of chanting it.

I'm have been listening and singing along. I think Rama is chanted in all the verses and Ram is chanted at the end of the 8th verse before it all repeats again. Beautiful melody 🌸
