That looks like a great idea for many reasons. It seems much quieter than the other metallic valves, I would assume the ball rotates and spreads wear all around the outside of the ball. Do you have any information about how long it lasts before needing service or replacement?
Hello, thanks. Yea, that was also my question about the wear. It ran for about a month in a row. Then my father checked it and said that there's no wear on the ball at all. But time will show more...
Your original pump was pushing 5000L per day, this pump does 2*60*24 = 2880 L per day.. how do you then come to the conclusion that it is "almost the same" ???
This seems like the perfect solution for me as I never seem to get time to build your other valve design. It's small portable and built from off the shelf parts. Brilliant Bohumir, just what I need in time for summer and my vegetable garden.
In my country the pumps are nothing. Now I am trying to understand and to do testing. And we will distributed. Your supporting is helpful for us. We will like to purchase if we can not make in here.ok
Great video series! It looks like a lot of people including me is finding it hard to find the 1" blue plastic "ball" valve. The foot valve that you compared in your "flap valve bad" video is easily found here in the West and seemed to do a good job and would just need the interior spring removed. Did you try that one here? And if the 1.25 inch one you showed previously was too big perhaps a 1 inch one would function well and still be good for a noob.
I had no success with the company listed by Bohumir - they didn't reply to my emails. However, I have now found one on Ebay, which I've ordered - tinyurl.com/y5tmbohs
carrying on your fathers great thinking .. Two heads are better than one .. congratulations . I saw a small bleed hole in one design what is the idea behind the bleed hole .. .
Interesting results! The ram pump is based on the inertia of moving water - therefore, you need to have the highest flow possible when the waste valve is closed, and it must close as fast as possible, to get the highest pressure spike. I still think this valve is not as effective as your custom design, but I admit I was surprised with the results! I also think that the rubberized metal ball that forms the seal in this valve will wear much faster than your custom leather seal, particularly because it's sealing against a metal lip. This video is almost one year old, so I guess you will know more about this by now :-)
Hi I have built a ram pump connected to a fish tank to recycle the water, using your waste valve design. The waste valve however does not close when opened. The length of the drive pipe is 3.8m to the pump and its diameter is 1" same as the pump diameter, but a 2" waste valve. The water head is about 1' above the pump. There are two elbows, one under the tank, and the second about 1.5' from the first, but not part of the 3.8m drive pipe. What might be the problem?
Have you try to troubleshooting again your previous ram pump by changing the rubber ring inside to a metal like stainless. That will make the pump work faster.
Please i have a question; using a basic Pressure is force per unit area. If we use a ball that is twice as heavy has the current one you have, will it double the pressure? Please advice. Thanks.
It is better to use your customizer waste valve, my friend make a waste valve almost the same you lade, but he use a tyre rubber instead of leather. I made also a waste valve almost the same theory as yours, but I used a heavy equipment tyre more tha an inch thick. Very durable and long lasting, till now not encounter any problem with my waste valve.
This looks very interesting, Bohumir, and I'd like to have a go at building one. However, I think that check valve will be difficult to find. I've looked online at various sources but I can't see one anywhere. Where did you get yours?
I sent an email to them, Bohumir, to see if they ship to the UK. I didn't get a reply, probably didn't understand me, so could you ask them via email if they do - and what the cost would be? I would probably need two initially.

Hello Bohumir, I am very interested to learn about ramp pumps. Your videos are very good and I’ve learned a lot. I have a question. What is the minimum intake pressure needed for the ramp pump to work? If my site does not have the drop in elevation, how long do I need the intake pipe to be to create the necessary pressure? Appreciate your help. Thank you in advance.
Hello, you need a certain downfall. I would say that actually the maximum lenght for this size of the pump is the 50 meters. I am preparing another video where you will see that we have now actually intake to the intake. You can use it to have the water level higher. Last week I was working with downfall about 1,5m, it was slower but it worked fine.
@@m1m1thecat Each of them is suitable for different type of people. If you are a pro, take the custom homemade one. That one can run anywhere and make maximum of power. The blueone is for noobs. It is better than the swing check valve but when the water flow is too low it won't work.
I'm a bit lost about the details of this pump and the parts i need to buy compared to your more detailed previous versions (with different valve system). Can you give a bit more details about this one ? Thank you !
You didn’t mention the difference in elevation from your ram pump to the top of the hill where you measured 2 liters in a minute as well as a pressure check. That is one of the most important aspects of your test.
Has anyone found a supplier for these valves in the UK, or from someone who would ship to the UK? I have tried to contact the company in Slovakia that was given by Bohumia but have not had a reply.
Hello. You can watch my playlist where I sgow how to make the pumo and also how to make my own custom waste valve. ru-vid.com/group/PLtuLfNASMMwG58-nCwZxlEJukC1E0ZABu
Could you explain a bit more about this specific pump and how the ball acts inside the valve ? Also i don't see a second valve, i thought there needed to be two valves for the pump to work?
Yes, there's this blue valve and there's a 3/4 valve that is placed horizontally. The ball acts as a valve. It stops the water flow at the upper position.
@@aungmyokhaing6795 How enough? I don't understand your question because you don't write what is enough. The pump needs approx 6l/min. Anything above is ok.
@@BohumirStehlik I mean that you collect water from flexible pipe by black color tank for drive pipe. "I want to know flow rate of water from flexible pipe". Because flow rate is low than drive pipe, ram pump can run only when water level from black tank is full or higher. So ram pump can not run for 24 hrs if flow rate of flexible is low.
@@aungmyokhaing6795 The flow from the red flexible hose is much higher than the pump needs. Thr water travels freely in the red hose but in the black drive pipe the water goes only step by step thanks as the pump works.
For less pressure loss and maximizing use energy of water shock (hammer effect), can You try to install the tank horizontally? Meaning In direct way of water stream stroke in “T-part” ... Bladder tank maybe can handle it?
I don't think so that it would have any effect on efficiency to place the tank horizontally. And I am not going to use this type of setup anymore. It is quite stupid to have the valve in the middle. All of the scrap and mess from the water goes to the main valve instead of the waste valve.
@@BohumirStehlik Understand. Dirty water, mud and sand was an issue in our installation. Same setup - small vertical drop and long PE pipe as a solutions for this condition. After many tries and tweaks we found as best solution this: 100+ liters plastic barrel near to pump Positioned and leveled up to input water level (Communicating vessels principle en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communicating_vessels ) On top (or quite lower then top water level) connected to pump with straight solid iron pipe (that's important), min 2" diameter Pump input iron pipe length depends on waste valve frequency and closing speed (The absolute water shock with the highest pressure only lasts until the pressure wave runs from the waste valve to the beginning of the pipe and back to the waste valve. The wave propagates at the speed of sound.) Intake from PE pipe connect in bottom of barrel. Optimally in side position to make vortex with cylindrical filtering effect Bottom barrel central waste valve for discharging settled sand and mud. Use as big as you can, a short but strong current will do the best job ... ;-)
A very useful video... What do you think would happen if you were to use a larger size waste valve e.g. 2". The ball would be heavier and more water could pass through. Would performance improve?
for is this is the biggest size possible. For bigger valve one needs more initial water pressure. So, it depends.. If one has more pressure, then it would help...
@@BohumirStehlik Thank you. Im not sure if you have any ideas, the ram pump i have built has 2 oddities. 1. The water comes out of the delivery pipe in pulses rather than a flow 2. The delivery pipe needs to be at least 7m above the pump to generate sufficient back pressure for the pump to operate. The head is only 1.5M. Any ideas what could be causing this? Im stuck!
Does the intake pipe have to be so long? I would like to make such a rampump but the stream that I have in my yard is only 2-3 meters long, then it falls straight into a lake. Do you think it would be long enough to create some pressure?
Depends on how much fall you have. If you have 6 ft or 2 meters of fall but a very short intake pipe length you need to go to a large intake pipe. 4 to 6 inches in diameter, it's all about the weight of the water and fall. If you have a 1.5 inch x 150 ft intake pipe let's say it holds 25 gallons. If you have a 4 inch x 25 ft it might hold nearly the same amount of water. Inertia is inertia, we use 3 inch diameter irrigation lines on our alfalfa fields. We can run 25 impact sprinklers at a time. If we used a 1.5 inch pipe with the same water pressure we could only run 5 sprinklers. You will just have to experiment. Good luck!
Thank you. Somewhere in my videos is a video step-by-step. It is incl. my custom waste valve. But it is really easy to make it yourself. Just visit a plumber's shop.
@@BohumirStehlik thank you Bohumir where I live in Jamaica. The valve you mentioned is not sold here. What is the size of your bladder tank? 20 Litres?
Bohumir, can you explain a bit more on the position of the bladder tank? With the custom made waste valve you built earlier using the Galvanized Tee, the tank is after the waste valve. And also, what do you mean by bladder tank? Do you put a tyre tube inside the tank?
Tire tube or I use an expansion tank. The bladder tank here is after the valve. Actually, it has some pros and cons. Pro is that the pump is super compact. Con is that the pump is sensitive about quality of water.
