Rendezvous with Rama (the first book) was terrific. I wish I had stopped there. The subsequent books became worse and worse, with the ultimate turn off a marriage and sexual relationship between a 70+ year old man and a 13 year old girl. Although the sequels were co-written with Gentry Lee, what the hell was Clarke thinking? He should never have put his name on that trash.

I read the full series years ago, and then re-read it a couple of years ago.. One of the best SciFi series of books ever..... would love to see a movie, but can't imagine anyone doing it correctly...

indeed, for 50 years, not even one real attempt to make a film, of a whole universe...shame on Hollywood

@@devinreese1397 I agree, but with the lack of any real SciFi movies out over the past few years, I would be willing to accept a mediocre movie as long as there was an attempt at following the book(s).

@@merlinof2 Rumour has it Denis Villeneuve is doing this after 'Dune'. Dune was a mixed bag, but Rama is an even tougher ask as a movie IMO.

The first two books were interesting and held me. The possibilities were endless. The series fully lost me when the committee putting humans into the ship decided to send the dregs of humanity. This wasn't smart science fiction this was a lazy writer trying to create some kind of conflict and cheaping out on the thought.

That was the point where they lost me as well. Yea, let’s send a bunch of criminals and then be surprised when they start trouble. Just sloppy writing.

In most of the recent sci-fi centered around alien-human first contact interactions, the worst examples of humanity are always chosen. Apparently we must select the lowest IQ and least skilled people with the lowest impulse control to represent our species. Netflix is one of the worst purveyors of this garbage, although even Ridley Scott has succumbed to hollywood's creative dementia in his recent scripts. Clarke and Asimov are rolling over in their graves in disgust.

There is literally no way humanity would have done that, period. We'd send people who could figure out the advanced technology and bring that knowledge back.

Gentry Lee ruined this tale. Clarke was better on his own.

Unpopular opinion: The sequel novels are complete garbage. So much misanthropy and the Creator of the universe needs MACHINES to keep an eye on His creation. Absolute sloppy, self-contradictory trash. I tried to read them all a second time just to be fair but couldn't make it even halfway through "Revealed" before I cast it aside in disgust. Avoid the sequels at all costs lest your childhood dreams be ruthlessly destroyed by a train wreck of a co-author.
