Shaykh Hamza Yusuf is truly one of the most enlightened Muslim thinkers of the modern day. It's unfortunately rare to find much scholars online who can eloquently intertwine specific modern problems with Islamic teachings. May Allah grant him Janatul Firdaus

What a fantastic, eloquent and clearly defined speech on patience. There is nothing anti-sunni, anti-shia, anti-sufi, anti-muslim in this talk. Allah (swt) has blessed this man with wisdom and intellect. May Allah reward him in the hereafter too, Ameen. I benefited from this video and refuse to be caught up in rhetoric from mischief makers who call this man a deviant. As human beings no 2 people will ever agree on everything, ever. Even the sahabah disagreed on when the Asr prayer should be which is why there are 2 groups of Muslims who pray Asr based on differing opinions. This man's heart is pure from the way he talks and the way he presents Islam. May Allah guide him and us all and keep him humble, Ameen. Great video masha'Allah.

Sabr (صبر) is not really patience. Sabr is patient perseverance. It's entirely different from the usual translation in English. It actually mean going on in the face of trying odds, like a sportstar who pushes herself despite wanting to give up.

"Somebody who collects cars, this is a sign of deep material sickness." As a car collector myself, I thought this was pretty harsh and judgmental. I think it's important to differentiate between a "collector" and a "materialist". A materialist is driven by a lack of inner substance in an attempt at filling a void wherein an emotional attachment between the heart and material is fostered (i.e., hoarding). A collector can be an emotionally-detached hobbyist who admires the beauty of design; or, they can be someone who collects for the purpose of growing their wealth through the medium of material investments, which are eventually liquidated. The latter is just a halal way of accruing wealth through appreciating assets, rather than collecting interest in a Savings bank account; and if they're assets you also materially appreciate, then two birds, one stone! Whether it's baseball cards, sneakers, cars [or even camels and horses who, I believe, Uthman ibn Affan (RA) owned hundreds of], what an individual can afford is relative to their financial situation, and their intention. In sum, I do not believe the action of collecting material items is synonymous to materialism. Materialism is a disorder that can manifest as an attachment to even just one baseball card, or one pair of sneakers, or one car. Anyways, I'm just defending myself only because I have admired Hamza Yusuf for such a long time. I know, at times, he can be very judgmental and so, it's just disheartening to know that if I were ever to meet him, I would be seen only through judgmental eyes as someone with a "sickness".
@karar302
@karar302 5 лет назад
Now your comment is very judgmental as well.
@riyazsufi1316
@riyazsufi1316 5 лет назад
Excellent clarification! Thanks for sharing. He was most likely referring to the materialist type. There was mention of consumerism immediately after this point and later he clarified that there's nothing wrong with having wealth so long as one's obligations are fulfilled and one helps others.
@jamesgames7841
@jamesgames7841 5 лет назад
Just remember, even "good" scholars make mistakes. Sh. Hamza made a mistake here... Abu Bakr (r) had an extra vacation house, for example, but his heart was free of love of dunya... so we can't say someone who has "extra" stuff in this world is by default "spiritually sick." The issue is to make sure dunya is in our hands, not in our hearts!

I just lost my job in the last 10 Days of Ramadan, this is what I need to hear, also I was doing my Fajr awrad that's about 1hr long, yesterday I missed it and today I was going to abandon it again, but your saying of staying in the habit of doing my awrad.... But on a separate not please quite mentioning ibn tayymia teachings as if he is some type of recognized authority in our Deen, this whole thing only happened after the Wahhabi came around and start to make his name popular again during the Ottoman Empire his teachings were banned and his supporters were put in prison.... It was 101 amazing scholars throughout history so you can quotes and have their name circulated why are you choosing such a controversial disgusting person who resembled God to the creation by attributing to him a body and direction and limits and place etc... All these things are unbefitting to attribute to Allah

I guess you are talking about the concept of non attachment. There is no reason to call this buddhism. Buddhism did not invent non attachment. In fact any one with a clear mind can reason and will come to the conclusion that attachment is of no benefit . Also spiritual truths are the same wherever you go, even on other planets.
@TraderZer0
@TraderZer0 5 лет назад
@@rezastella777 logic? Buddhism predates Islam and yes Buddha did describe non attachment. most eastern tradition talks about non attachment this is a fact maybe islam digest this concept like many things. i left islam for Buddhism. It fits my reasoning.
@rezastella777
@rezastella777 5 лет назад
@@TraderZer0 At the end of the day, what really matters is our actions. When we pass over to the next world, it wont be as simple as an angel asking, "what religion are you" ? and if you answer Islam or Judaism or Buddhism then the heaven's gates are wide open, we will be in a good or bad state based on our actions and spiritual awareness. Also something predating something else does not make it right, as a matter of fact, it might have more errors in it. If you think Islam does not fit your reasoning, then you are obviously free to think so. But from my point of view, only people who have little knowledge of Islam will come to that conclusion. Doubt can be beneficial, if it leads you to increase your knowledge and consequently faith. In fact one should keep doing this until all doubts are clear. Put it simply, we should become a Muslim every day, and every moment. I would love to see what did you find in Buddhism that you did not find in Islam and why do you find it more logical? Is that because of their non-belief in the Creator ?
