This video is part of 'Rambling Railwayman’s Recollections’ a book written and self-published by Geoff Burch - part of The Rambling Railwayman Series.
In part 1 of this chapter Geoff has been invited to join the Operations Training Centre at South Side Waterloo as an Acting Instructor.
To take on this role, Geoff needs to attain an in-depth knowledge of the Rules and Regulations appertaining to a driver and also an in-depth knowledge of the tractions that he is expected to instruct.
All EMU types have to learnt and a schematic examination on the subjects needed to be passed before being able to run Rules and Traction courses and a Core Training Skills certificate is also a requirement.
After a period of time, a full time Instructor’s vacancy arose and Geoff successfully applied for the post.
This then meant that he is now qualified to conduct driver’s Part 1, 2 and 3 driver's exams.
By 1991, Geoff has also learnt to teach other types of new traction; Class 319 Units and Class 73 1600/600hp Electro-diesel locomotives to Instructor standard.
