The "multi-layering" is present in most Rammstein songs. They play with the german language, often instranslatable without deeper explainations for "foreigners". 😁Even Germans often have to think twice about the lyrics. Rammstein is art.

The little blond haired boy who is crying at the end of the video is actually one of Schneider's sons-his real life Dad waving bye-bye to him. Everything with Rammstein is multi-layered though, you're right. You can take things at face value but it always pays to have several listens to and viewing of anything they put out. Spotted Schneider falling in the water as he got out of the raft as well (I'm a fan, what can I say?) 😂

That's a different take on the lyrics, not actually heard that before. Majority, especially with the video, lean towards it being about colonialism or the sex trade. That's the good thing about their songs and videos, they often have multiple meanings you can take from them

That's correct what you say about their songs - you listen to them, get the lyrics, have the idea... and then KABOOM! Here comes the music video, and it gives completely different meaning to what you thought you already understood. Just think of "Sonne", or "Ich Will" - exactly the same situation. I simply love them for what they're doing.

Itd only be because of it being more "dancey" music. But Pussy is the same. But those sounds are very typical of German music id say, techno music and dance music is big in Germany and Europe so I don't find out of place. Considering their music genre is considered "Dance-metal" its very on point. Their older stuff has tons of synth so its not out of place for their sound. It's one of my favourites

Yes definitely one I did not appreciate. It caught me off-guard when I first listenned to the latest album, and not in a good way. Unlike "Was ich liebe" which I enjoy more and more each time I listen to it, "Auslander" never grew on me, it's still maybe my least favorite of the album.

Made me remember a brazillian book called "Iracema" by José de Alencar, its about a portuguese man and a native tribe, the book portrays a point of view of the portuguese man how they believed the land and the people of Brazil were so beautifull they could not help but feel corrupted by it, wanting to consume everything out of lust. In the book the portuguese man falls in love with Iracema and has a kid with her, however the book discusses this need that the portuguese colonialist had with consuming the beauty of Brazil, also how they expected the Brazillian Natives to bent over to their needs and treat them like the second coming of Christ. Its been a long time since i read this book, but its a good read, i am not sure if every opinion i had with the music comes from the book i might have attached some other opinions. This music video is great and i honestly think that if i watch it again i might have another opinion about it.

the video is basically reverse colonialism mixed with current refugee crisis while the text just describes sex tourism. and by doing that, lays open the hypocrisy: we wont let people in who are fleeing from wars, but view ourselves as multicultural and world citizesn just to lay a cheap fuck or have a good time (applies also to vacations, travelling influencers, whatever). Rammstein are not afraid to position themselves and descrive controversial topics in unusual ways. I have to say, lyrically the new rammstein album was interesting, the quality was not as good on every track as in the past, but I liked the topics. Musically, very hit and miss. Generally I like taking other influences or paying homage, like on "Radio" to old Kraftwerk. this NDH meets disco-pop or club music is not my style at all. And I felt most of the new album was a lukewarm take on old stuff and new things that just did not work for me. Radio and Deutschland are still two excellent songs though. I just think musically, Rammstein are not exactly relevant any more. lyrically very much so.

In my opinion this song plus the video has so many diffrent layers of criticism and also self criticism. As you can tell from "We all living in America" Rammstein is not a big fan of forcing the own culture onto foreign cultures. In this Video Western (also German) Colonialism (you can tell by the clothes) is critizised. The arrogance of the believe of own the superiority of the the own people and culture lead and leads to disgusting disrespectful behavior towards other nations and its people. Although the lyrics prey learning other languages and cultures, the video shows teaching/forcing the foreigners the own language and religion down the throat. Tourism is no exception especially s*x-tourism, people think other nations are a playground, grab women by the susyP, impregnate women and leave them with the kids alone, as for them it's just a game, another life, no responsibilities.

Yet the British were the biggest colonialists on the planet at one time and closely followed by the French. We grew up accepting it seeing all those countries coloured in pink on the globe to denote the British Empire. We were told that we had brought civilisation to those parts of the world and in return got spices, cotton, tobacco, tomatoes and potatoes yet it's only more recently Westerners realised that they could learn from these tribal cultures as well.. Spain, France and Britain colonised parts of what is now the USA. Britain created the USA from a small part of what it is now and it was governed from Britain by George III who never visited it and who lost the war of independence. Once free of Britain the USA then expanded into the Spanish and French colonies.

You have a interesting take on the lyrics with the touring. But the lyrics are about sex tourism. Staying just a few hours and learning just the words to get the women into bed. The video is of course about colonialism. The name of the song, Ausländer (Foreigner) is a typical word play by Rammstein. You might expect a song about foreigners in Germany, but it's a song about how Germans behave as foreigners.
@lemsip207

Especially as colonialists in the past. There's a line where Italian, French, English and Russian is also used to show that most of Europe was colonising the world at one time. Even the Netherlands colonised countries so Indonesia, Suriname and South Africa became their colonies. Italy colonised Ethiopia. When I flew into Bari in southern Italy for the first time I saw planes from Ethiopia at the airport.

Britain, France and Spain colonised North America and Britain then created the USA which once independent spread across to the west coast and now the USA is colonising parts of the world as it did Cuba in the 1950's and now the Middle East. In the 60's and 70's the USA forced the ideas from the Chicago School of Economics on most of South America starting with Chile and Argentina and because the people there resisted neo-liberalism the countries became fascist. Originally the Romans conquered all of Western Europe and forced Christianity on it which originated in Palestine also occupied by the Romans. More and more people in Europe are rediscovering their pagan roots and rejecting Christianity.

The actual sentiment is up for debate. Some wager it’s a jab at sex tourism, similar to their 2009 nonsense of a song, Pussy; others reckon the wham, bam, thankyou ma’am nature of the lyrics is more an allegory for the colonialism you see in the video - sexual encounters equating to conquering uncharted territory, as it were.

The social criticism in this song and its message are crystal clear to anyone who grew up in Germany, even more so if you grew up there as an immigrant and you heard the word "Ausländer" a lot. It has a historical and a cultural component that reaches into the present. It basically presents a mirror to German society.
@lemsip207
@lemsip207 Год назад
To Western European society as well in the 16th to 20th centuries when Western European countries were colonising the world and fighting each other over their colonies. Because they needed natural resources from those countries. The British fought the Dutch in South Africa for example. Britain has invaded, either successfully or unsuccessfully, all but 22 countries in the world. I only learned that recently and it came as a shock to me.
@mrnice1976
@mrnice1976 Год назад
@@lemsip207 They gave it a retro look, but I really see the reference to modern German society of the last few decades. That Europe colonized to exploit natural resources is a myth. For Germany, it was a question of national prestige. The colonies never made economic sense. The Dutch wanted a global trade network more than anything else. The English took over from the Dutch. Maybe the ones who set out with the goal of specifically pillaging gold were the Spanish in South America. Remember, that in those times trade blocks like the European Union did not exist. You needed your own empire in order to establish a free trade zone.
@lemsip207
@lemsip207 Год назад
@@mrnice1976 I get the impression Germany did that so as not to get left out. There was a lot of colonisation as there was very little trade between your own country and the colonies of other European countries so you relied upon your own empire. Trade grew during the 19th century when colonising countries collaborated more and traded between each other. Also there was colonisation going on because populations were expanding rapidly in Europe with industrialisation and people (especially from Britain) needed to live elsewhere which is why they tried to settle in places such as India and Kenya before being kicked out so they weren't just making lightening visits. And they successfully settled in parts of North America such as Newfoundland, New England and Nova Scotia and in Australasia. The Spanish did likewise in the Caribbean, west coast of what is now the USA, bottom part of north America and South America. More Germans than anyone else emigrated to the USA in the 19th century once the British created it, lost it in a war of independence under George III and it expanded westards. At school I only learned about the British Empire and only found out about other European countries colonising the rest of the world since leaving school through books, newspapers, travel, TV, films and museums. There is an African museum in Tervuren just outside of Brussel focused mostly on the Belgian Congo.
@mrnice1976
@mrnice1976 Год назад
@@lemsip207 Yes, there has been demographic pressure in Europe for a long time, many people and little space. That led to emigration to the colonies. In a way, the reverse is happening now. Africa is feeling demographic pressure and Europe is building fences against the people trying to get in. Australia is a penal colony, a nation of convicts :D They were just sent as far away as possible. But at the base of it all, the British had a trade rivalry with the Dutch which played out along the maritime trade routes. Controlling the Cape, for example, was strategic. The Dutch controlled India before the British and the Dutch East India Company's wealth built brands like Heineken. The British East India Company was the successor and the British took over the Dutch trade. The Germans had missed all of that and essentially just held some colonies as trophies for national pride. Pretty useless. Of course, securing trade was not a European invention. The maritime global trade network east (Americas were not on the map) had previously been established by the great islamic empires (Ottomans, Berbers etc), so the Europeans entered an already competitive turf and ascended as those empires declined. The British took it a notch higher than most had in the past. Hyper-competitive so it seems, but they also coincided with the age of industrialization, so maybe they just went with the times and scaled on an industrial level... limitless economic growth is with us as a doctrine to this day.
@lemsip207

This song is actually about germans acting nowadays like the indigenous people in africa back in the days. What u see in the video is history, but as always it is also a description of what ist happening right now, in Germany.
