I can’t listen to this song without tearing up. My mother gave me up for adoption, so I hate her for that, but I also love her for giving me life. I wish I knew her.
I am so sorry to hear that. I don't know what you went through, but keep going in life. set a better example for your kids. We are here to be better than the past generation, and I have a feeling you are doing great!
👍 Beside the literal meaning of the lyrics (artificially created person without a mother), my interpretation is that it's about a child in rage missing (the love of) it's mother.
Till has a wonderful relationship with his mother! I interpret the song to be a clone. Created in a test tube. He hates his mother for this existence. But begs for her motherly protection.
Hi, you can both hate and love your mutter. If she didnt protect you when you, while you were young. But you miss her when your an adult and wish you had the chance left to forgive before she died. Mixed feelings....
To my knowledge this video clip production caused a massive rift in the band, because Till went along with it by him alone. This was a breach to one of their ‚holiest‘ rules - every decision needs to be made together with every band member approving. It nearly would have broken up the band.
Not completely right. Have a look a the making of. Till did not really wanted to do it alone at first hand, but was at the end "talked into it". Yes, there were difficulties in General, for all, because Richard tried to control everything at that time (he said it at an interview himself). For all Richard and Till often reflect themselves (something many people do not do) and that is, why Richard realised, there need to be a change, so that they can continue as a band. I follow them since 26 years and love how they are. This was only an edition, to the troubles they already had.
Small correction: This is the official music video of "Mutter". In Paris there was a live performance of "Mutter", also highly recommended, cause it was presented with a lot of emotion. Maybe he sings about was being born as a test-tube baby, without really having had any parents. Keep it up, greetings from Germany.
Listen with my German ears i would not interpret that on a personal level (till and mother). Rather a dark child + mother relations which also exist on this planet from unborn, orphans to abuse and that are not talk much even in "progressive" societies. Its very emotional. All that the child ask for is the warmth of a mother and in negation of warmth it turns into the cold darkness even hate.
Mutter was written as an acknowledgement of the difficult relationships that Till Lindemann and Richard Kruspe both had with their mothers when they were growing up. Being a mother doesn't come naturally to some women and some can be quite hateful towards their own children without being physically abusive. Emotional and psychological abuse can be worse in some ways, lasting a lifetime and leaving the victim feeling that they have no connection with the person who have birth to them. The need to remove the evidence of the link to their birth is understandable. That was a dead rat that Till was prodding with a stick btw.
Wrong, while Richard really struggeled with his mother, Till had a good relationship with his mother. He had more problems with his father. The song is a comment on cloning ane gen-manipulation.
