You never knew WHO was going to show up on the Joe Franklin Show, so it was always advisable to be good and stoned before tuning in. "RAY-MONES". You've gotta love Joe.
RIP Joe Franklin. Joe brought honesty and a down to earth attitude to the talk show genre. Over 30 years ago, my coworkers and I "crashed" his office to see the taping of his show. He would not let us in, saying "I can't let you in, fire laws, boys, fire laws". We did not mind - we were thrilled to meet him. There will not be another like Joe. RIP beloved Joe.
Joe was the kindest man. He gave everyone their 15 minutes of fame. I published the Joe Franklin Memory Lane News and was on his show several times. The only person he could never get to appear was Frank Sinatra.
i remember seeing this on cable when i was in high school....this interview is so awesome..wor used to show all the mets games as well....i love the unrelated guests together...
@@HmmmmNiceBike when Joey was dying in the hospital, Marc was the only band member who came to see him. Johnny refused stating "I never liked the guy".
If you read Johnny's book Commando, he says that he softened up to Joey towards the end. He figured Joey wouldn't want to see him, since there were years where they didn't talk. You are pretty far off man... Especially using hate to describe any feelings. Really we don't know, only they know. But I believe they had love for one another. Johnny even stated he stood up for Joey a few times and always would.... The Ramones did NOT hate each other...
The Ramones started the ripped jeans fashion and even the sound on their albums Halfway to sanity and Brain drain had a few grungy tones..grunge derived from punk rock, so the raymones 😂cough*cough, Ramones probably paved the way for grunge... princess. I like your name, it's rad. I Slept with Joey Ramone is an interesting read and hilarious.
I new this interview would be good. Joe Franklin was of an older generation but was sincere and not condescending. As a kid in Philly area we could pick up Channel 9 from New York. I also remember, years earlier, the Clay Cole Show.
"You're loquacious(Talkative), are'nt you ?!" 2:52 Marky was falling into that role , of being a spokesman for the band. Tommy was often put in charge of interviews , before Marky joined. I did notice , later , Marky seemed more comfortable than the others , talking at length , like , yes , he does do , here.
It's funny, Mickey's actually the one who's 6'3", and in his book, he did mention that Joey hitchhiked, wearing platform shoes and a colorful boa, trying to get to clubs. Joey was always a handful!
ChrisM1234 Yeah , I met Mickey once , he IS very tall. Not as tall as Joey was , of course. He reminded me a lot of Joey , though , in a very cool way. I read that story about Joey hitchiking in a full black vinyl bodysuit , pink high heels , etc.
Speaking of the Smiths, I just listened to a podcast the other day (I can't remember what show) where they talked about how Morrissey is in the process of buying a cemetery plot at the Hollywood Forever cemetery in LA and is trying to buy the lot next to either Johnny or Dee Dee. I can't remember which guy, but he apparently has a fixation about being buried next to one of the Ramones. I think that it is funny since Joey just said that he personally didn't dig the Smiths. hehhe. I know that there is a photo floating around out there that shows Morrissey leaning, in a pose of admiration, against Johnny's statue. Maybe they were friends, I'm not sure. It seems like all of the well-known musicians wanted to be friends with Johnny. I totally understand it, as he was a really fascinating dude. Frig, Rob Zombie and Eddie Vedder were with him when he died.
kookadams85 Jan & Dean were the original punk rockers. Part time musicians, full time college students with top 10 hits. There wasn’t a lot they did that wasn’t completely tongue-in-cheek, all the way back to Jenny Lee.
I'm 15, today's music is all a fake, I've taken a interest and passion in the ramones and im new if you have anything important highlights from this AWSOME band that I should know please tell them to me thank you.
@tattypatty Irecently saw marc in person. He is a fine drummer and a really terrific entertainer, but he is still wearing that toupee. Oh well to each his own.
Pretty sure it's on here...the Ramones are on Shanana Bowser Introduced them as A New Wave Band! I guess punk was a term the network that terrified them,,,,,
Bet none of those four thought Joe F would outlive Joey R. Seems Marky is relieved to come out of his shell a little in this interview, it feels like when Johnny is around for interviews Marky kept quiet.
0:27 This was actually a very important thing in the development of the scene in Puerto Rico. I just found out about recently because of a book they just wrote. Cool to hear them mention it
Both Led Zeppelin and Ramones were influenced by many of the same great Fifties artists obviously. Listen to LZ jamming live medleys of great old pop and blues and boogie tunes, that's where you can detect some overlap with Ramones although the resulting bands are very different. Zeppelin was also far more folksy and weird which set them apart.
