It was actually Daenerys and Drogo's time-traveling fetus that wrote the Pink Letter. I'll be focusing the next 20 videos on that.

I have always thought it was Mance who wrote the letter because he asks for the “wildling babe” and I don’t know a good reason why Ramsay would have included him in the list. All the info in the letter Mance would know, so this is one of the mysteries I can’t wait to find out about.

What if the letter came from "inside the house" meaning from someone at Castle Black? Someone who would want to goat Jon into storming off for Winterfell? The person who wrote the letter sure knows a lot about the goings on at The Wall, Stannis' Lightbringer, the Wildling Princess and Babe. And, this person has no problem addressing Jon as "bastard". My guess is Queen Selyse. Maybe fearing Stannis is out of his league? She wants Jon and his men as reinforcements for him? Anyway, Rawrist, this is actually a wonderful topic to explore and discuss. Brilliant!

Freys and Manderly come first, Ramsay and the baggage train are behind. If Manderly does his duty and kill the Frey vanguard with Stannis's ice lake plan, then they can don the Frey armor. the 400 Karstarks have been arrested and disarmed, so likely than not their loyalty has switched or Stannermen have donned their armor. with that evidence plus the sword, false victory can be presented.
@twenty-sidedturtle2107
@twenty-sidedturtle2107 7 лет назад
I think it was Alliser Thorne. He calls Jon Bastard, and fought for house Targaryan so he would think any Baratheon is a false king and it gives him the chance to turn the night's watch on Jon. I think he caught wind of the fake Mance and used it to his advantage.

I know this sounds tinfoiley but I believe Ramsay wrote part of the pink letter to Jon. In Theon's chapter in the Winds of Winter stannis learns maester Tybald serves the Dreadfort, and in this dialogue we learn some ravens can travel between multiple holdfasts. When stannis asks the Maester if any of the birds are smart enough to do the same the maester does not give a clear answer. This causes me to believe Tybald had just written a letter for Ramsay and was about to send it; or Ramsay had given him the original version of the pink letter and then he was going to send it once Karstarks men had joined with stannis. When Jon receives the letter one of the first details is the handwriting and it is nothing like the samples of his previous letters. I believe Stannis had the maester rewrite the letter and sealed it in pink wax to provoke Jon (possibly with Theon's help), hoping that he can bring reinforcements. Would like to hear your thoughts! Best channel on RU-vid :)

One name I've never heard mentioned as author is Ser Alliser Thorne. He referred to Jon as "Bastard' more than anyone & is the only one who benefitted from the letter because Jon was viewed as a 'Traitor" which allowed Thorne & Co to kill him for treason. Just because Jon was handed a letter & told it arrived by Raven doesn't mean it did. One of Maester Ameon's assistants could have been Thorne-friendly and helped. Don't know how Thorne would know about "Reek" though.

About the lacking piece of skin -- sending a piece of skin in a letter is something Ramsey did when sending letters regarding his victory over Theon. So that's basically one instance of this practice, not an established habit.

Ser Pounce is always a good choice or the squirrel that has Jamie's' hand. I don't think he wrote it but I am not sure what the motivation is for it. The divergence of the show from the book always bothers me since I am not sure if the book will have to do some of the same things. Anyway this is good. I am looking forward to other videos.

I personally think the letter was not written by Ramsay, because that would be way too straight forward for GRRM. The most important letter we have seen so far in the books is the letter that Lysa wrote to her sister, telling her that the Lannisters murdered Jon Arryn. While this letter was indeed written by Lysa, the content was fake and dictated by Littlefinger. I doubt anybody at Winterfell could convince Ramsey to write the Pink Letter for them, apart from maybe Roose, but he probably would not condone the content of the letter as it is practically inviting the last known son of Ned Stark to rise in rebellion against the Boltons. Roose knows that he has more than enough enemies to deal with at the moment, and would be very cautious about creating a new one. Unlike Lysa's letter, the Pink Letter does not seem to have an ulterior motive if it was indeed written by Ramsey. Ramsey wants his lost toys back and a couple of hostages. Maybe GRRM has just made me paranoid, but this seems too simple. I think it is far more likely that the letter was written by someone who wanted Jon to rebel. Whether this was someone who wanted an excuse to get rid of Jon as Lord Commander, or someone who wanted him to march against the Boltons with a wildling army, the author clearly wrote the letter to piss Jon off.

I think we can all agree GRRM likes to mind fuck us. *sob*

Stannis wrote the letter in collaboration with Mel hands down. He has the maester in winterfell so that explains the pink wax. He wants to lure Jon (and by proxy northern bannermen to house Stark) to his cause to put a Stark back in Winterfell so he uses fArya/mance as a means to do that. He has theon as well who would tell him how he’d want his Reek back. I find it hard to believe Ramsay would put heads on spikes. The boltons skin and torture, they don’t allow their enemies to get away easily with a beheading. I’d imagine Ramsay would at the LEAST send the ruby on mance’s wrist as proof of his captivity. It’s hard for me to believe ramsay wrote it

For some reason, I don't think it's any of the characters we've mentioned. I think it's the hooded man in Winterfell. We know that he's mysterious and we know how important the letter is. We know from the Tv show that there's somewhat a bit of time travel or paradoxes or whatnot, maybe this hoodedman needed Jon to die or get him south to change the events that might happen if Jon don't react. It a big shot in the dark, but I think the hooded man is connected.
@williamduan2322
@williamduan2322 7 лет назад
as much as I would like the hooded man to be some mysterious awesome new player, I don't think he is anyone at all. I do not think there is a SINGLE hooded man. I believe it is just a series of naturally occurring murders that you naturally get from crowding so many soldiers with so many feuds. Of course, the process of mutual killing is facilitated by the action of Mance and his spear wives.
@williamduan2322
@williamduan2322 7 лет назад
that is the most badass theory I have ever heard... now I want it to be true soooo bad
@pearlsandstars829
@pearlsandstars829 7 лет назад
+Duan William Mostly a result of crowding them all together, but surely not all the murders can be explained by that? The spear wives deny that they killed the Frey child to Theon, and why would they need to lie to him? Killing the kid was a very politically calculated move: it drove both sides to try and kill the other and led Bolton to command them to go fight Stannis in the open (which is the only way Stannis can do damage. Stannis cannot get inside Winterfell.) When reading the books, I thought that the hooded man is Mance? Is that possible? After all, he would know who Theon is, he posed as a singer in Winterfell when Robert was there. I've heard some people say that the hooded man is a Faceless Man, but that seems improbable based on the conversation the hooded man had with Theon. Why would a faceless man care about Theon enough to question his past actions? Faceless Men don't really judge others, they just off them. A Faceless Man would be smart enough to off the right person to sow that level of chaos inside Winterfell, but so would Manse. Manse did watch everyone closely at the feast when Robert came to see Ned. Could Manse still be trying to destroy the North? Pitting these lords against each other could be part of the original plan. He did have a plan after he took the Wildlings across the Wall, (what to do after, how to survive the ruling lords in the North, where to settle the Wildlings, etc.)
@pearlsandstars829
@pearlsandstars829 7 лет назад
+ Scott Sparling It's Book 5, Chapter 46. Basically, Theon can't sleep, so he walks around Winterfell at night. He meets a hooded man on the battlements and they have an exchange. (Note that Theon can hear music coming from the great hall, hinting that Abel/Mance is still there, singing, so that's why I was wondering if it's at all possible that this hooded man, who is probably committing the murders, is Mance. Looks like GRRM is telling us this isn't Manse. The spear wives that came with Manse later admit to murdering Yellow Dick to Theon, but deny killing Roger Ryswell or the Frey child. So seems like they are two different men.) Here's the passage: [Outside the snow was coming down so heavily that Theon could not see more than three feet ahead of him. He found himself alone in a white wilderness, walls of snow looming up to either side of him chest high. When he raised his head, the snowflakes brushed his cheeks like cold soft kisses. He could hear the sound of music from the hall behind him. A soft song now, and sad. For a moment he felt almost at peace. Farther on, he came upon a man striding in the opposite direction, a hooded cloak flapping behind him. When they found themselves face-to-face their eyes met briefly. The man put a hand on his dagger. "Theon Turncloak. Theon Kinslayer." "I am not. I never . . . I was iron born." "False is all you were. How is it you still breathe?" "The gods are not done with me," Theon answered, wondering if this could be the killer, the night walker who had stuffed Yellow Dick's cock into his mouth and pushed Roger Ryswell's groom off the battlements. Oddly, he was not afraid. He pulled the glove from his left hand. "Lord Ramsey is not done with me." The man looked, and laughed. "I leave you to him, then." Theon trudged through the storm . . .]

I think Ramsay wrote the letter, not everything needs to be complicated. People tend to overanalyze everything within ASOIAF. But that is also a big part of the fun, within this series. The information in the letter is not entirely correct. Whether that is because Ramsay just lied or because he thought he was giving the right information is another question.

Stannis wrote the letter to get reinforcements and a ton of other reasons that I thought of a long time ago, but can't list here and now lol. Trust me though.. it's Stannis and his master commander mind that came up with this plot.. this plot that would have worked if not for those bastards at the wall killing their Lord Commander! Jon was bringing Wildlings and everything... that's what makes his murder that much worse! Poor Stannis can't catch a break. I mean, how would Ramsey know so much about exactly who is at the Wall and what's going on there? People like the Wildling princess and the baby... ? Roose might know or care about stuff like that, but I don't see Ramsey caring about much beyond who he can flay tomorrow. But still, even with Roose, he would need a spy within Castle Black or someone sending ravens, and I don't think there's anyone left in position to do that. I guess they could have tortured it out of Mance or the spear wives, but it would have taken a week or so at least to break them I'd bet.

Does "smear of hard pink wax" really imply that "no press or stamp was available to the writer"? If I were to guess a reason for using that particular wording, I would say it's probably to help invoke a feel of unease in the reader, as "smear" has mostly negative connotations and often appear in conjunction with "blood". Or it could just suggest that the seal is imperfect.

I always wondered if it wasn't Manderly who wrote the letter. He's obviously cooking Freys and feeding them to Bolton. He is not actually supporting Bolton, and it is implied that Bolton is suspicious of this already. If the Manderlys are actually just waiting for Jon to come to Winterfell so that they can declare him the new (and last option) for a Stark, they could write the letter to provoke Jon into an attack on Winterfell. This could be a safeguard to get the last possible Stark to rule in Winterfell, as Manderly is not sure if Rickon is still alive. Manderly did send Davos to look for Rickon. From what we've seen on the show, Davos will probably find Rickon to be either already dead, or he'll die on the way.

Jon never actually saw a raven come in, he was just handed the letter by a messenger and after Aemon died and Sam left, its entirely possible that no one is watching the ravens full-time. Someone at the Wall could have easily wrote the letter and then placed it wherever the ravens come in. I'm pretty convinced that the letter was written intentionally to make Jon join the fight and return to Winterfell, which I really doubt Ramsay wanted but the main hang-up with the theory that Ramsay isn't the author is the scarcity of ravens who fly to Castle Black. Stannis MIGHT have one, but it would make even more sense if the letter didn't actually come by raven at all....

We'll never know who wrote that letter because ASOIAF is interrupted and it will never continue. GOT is the only way to so see the end of the story.

I maybe remembering this wrong but i'm pretty sure the letter arrives by rider, not a raven....that most likely means no maester was involved, which in turn opens a lot more possibilities on who might've sent the letter. Mance would be my guess
@Rawrist

You're confusing the books with the show. The books was a raven. Show was a rider.

Rawrist as we know, ravens fly only one way (few also two ways). Since Winterfell was burned down probably no Stark ravens were left there. I guess Ramsy brought his, but do they fly to The wall? Mance maybe had ravens from The wall, Stanis also probably has them.

I suppose a raven to the wall would be standard among the northern lords. After all, the wall is kind of like Google, any internet browser should have access to it

Wyman Manderly and the Stark Loyalists who might have Rickon on the scene and want to make their move against the Boltons and Frey's and make the Night's Watch and Wilding forces draw the Boltons out following the battle against Stannis's forces and finish them off.

Stannis wrote it. Stannis needs Jon to be Lord Stark. Stannis has the Dreadfort's Maester who does all raven communication so he would have the pink wax and stamp. He also has Theon so he would learn a lot from him about Ramsey such as calling Theon Reek. ......................................................I am about to talk about TWOW so spoiler!!!!!!!!.................................. In Stannis sample chapter he tells his envoy that is going to the Wall and then to Bravos that if they her he died not to stop there mission of getting the Sell swords. Stannis knows they will hear he is dead when they reach the Wall so he makes sure they don't listen and do their duty. Also Stannis uses Bastard all the time. Not as an insult as usual but as a truth.

Whoever wrote the letter has deep knowledge and interest in the events about the wildilings, Stannis and the Night's Watch. I could grant that Ramsay could get the knowledge by capturing Mance, but we still have no explanation for all that interest. Why would he ever request the wildling "princess" and the baby? Why would he care about Mance Rayder's execution being fake?
@stoneddom
@stoneddom 7 лет назад
Because Ramsay is beyond triggered at this point and he is expressing himself in the most condescending manner imaginable? Obviously pissed off at Mance specifically and realizing that the only place Theon or Jayne could go on the North for protection is Castle Black.
@stoneddom
@stoneddom 7 лет назад
I look at the show as a crystal ball. Not specifically like how the books go down but the end results are the same. Stannis dies, Mance dies, Theon makes it out and goes back to The Iron Islands to team up with his sister against Euron. Ramsay is killed when the ressurected Jon makes an army of Northern Houses to clean The Boltons out. Jon is proclamied King in The North.

When I try to solve a mystery in a book I have always in my mind how organised the author and what the writting style is , if it was Agatha Christie I would be 100% sure it wasn't Ramsay and neither Mance lol but it's not Agatha Christie it's GRRMartin so it is a mystery and based on Martin's style I think it is made to look mysterious especially 3 things 1. the seal (which might indicate another author or that the letter was opened by someone and resealed hastily) 2. the reference of Mance by name and wildlings as royalty which you are perfectly right and as both Mance and his son are illegitimate Ramsay would call them bastards too and 3. of course and most importantly the absence of a patch of skin I think Ramsay has always some skin available to post no matter the haste he always has supply of skin. So based on the style of mysteries Martin constructs which have a level of surprice but are not full Agatha Christie whodunit ones I believe he creates the question especially with the absence of skin (mostly) and the seal and gives the answer at the same time with the "respect" shown in the letter to Mance and his wildling family. So My opinion is that is most probably Mance who wrote the letter but I might be wrong.

Heads on the walls do not conflict with flaying. You can flay someone and then cut the head off. Or the other way around. Besides, mounting heads on walls seems rather popular in Westeros these days, so maybe Ramsey just wanted to appear trendy.
