In 1857 Ramsbottom Paper Mill, Bridge Street, opens.
Grant Lawson Estate lease 108, 19th December 1859, Samuel Broadbent Ingham & James Broadbent Ingham, Trinity Paper Mill, Bridge Street, 19200 Square Yards, £200 0s 0d yearly rent.
Office near chimney has a date stone “1859” and the Engine House has a date stone & inscription “RPM 1875”.
1880 Barrett’s Directory - Ramsbottom Paper Mill Co., Ltd., Paper Manufacturers, Peel Bridge; Robert P. Skelton, Secretary.
1893 - “The Ramsbottom Paper Mill Company, Limited, have greatly extended and improved their premises during recent years, and their works, which give employment to about 250 people, now constitute an important factor in the material wellbeing of the town.”

“If you had been alive a century ago and had chanced to pass the Ramsbottom Paper Mill Company in late January 1895, you would have seen one of the most important 19th Century inventions making its first appearance in the town. On 24th January 1895, 230 lights, which had taken four months to install in the mill, were switched on. They ranged from 16 candle power to 50 candle power (on the outside of the building) with two arc lights in the colour mixing department which, according to the Ramsbottom Observer ‘gave an illumination almost equal to daylight’.”

During 1938 the chimney which was leaning quite badly was straightened.
In 1964 change of name to Holcombe Paper Mill Co.
In 1968 change of name to Trinity Paper Mills Ltd.
In 2002 the mill was acquired by Mondi
A fire at Mondi Paper, Holcombe Mill in Ramsbottom, destroyed 500 tonnes of bailed paper and 20% of the structure of a warehouse on 5th December 2002.
In 2008 Holcombe Paper Mill, owned by Mondi, closed and most of the site demolished. Then during 2006 the Mondi Chimney was reduced in height for safety reasons.
Recently several plans have been submitted to develop the site.
