This is quite amazing. This is a cover of one of the Carpenter's most beautiful and melancholic songs. A very stunning and modulated art song. But it is surprising someone would even THINK to do a sensitive jazz cover of it. If you've heard the original, you can hear The Carpenters' melody beautifully threading through it, but Ramsey adds a Sun Ra level of dreaminess and mysticism to his version. This is just really great. I love it. And as a side note, before the Carpenters were the Carpenters they actually had a more trad-jazz bent in their former incarnation as Spectrum. The group was always a lot hipper then their reputation that precedes them. But this is an example of how other artists always know good music when they hear it - and Ramsey makes this a stunning version all his own that can sit side by side with original, both moving experiences.
