Hey let me know if you like the Chapters and the Rant o Meter ok? Thanks!

Your Grandpa Comm always said, "Gotta make hay while the sun shines!" Yes, your Rant-o-meter works good! Makes it easier to re-find parts of your rant! Any sign of the cows around again?

It definitely seems weird to be inside on a sunny day, but lately outside is pretty brutal when the sun shines! I think the Mexicans have the right idea, they knock off for a few hours middle of the day for a siesta break...

What I've learned is people are too freaking lazy to use bikes. I bike daily at least 5 miles. I've biked 16 miles into my bigger town and back. I have had so many close calls with people in a rush. Until people are forced to ride or walk they will keep zooming on their automobiles.
@CarlinComm
@CarlinComm Год назад
Exactly, well said! When I rode motorcycles (most of my life) I often thought everyone should be forced to ride a scooter or something 6 months before they get to drive a car. That teaches you to look and see bikes of all sizes. When I did the 4000 mile ride last year, I rode some trails, but mostly ended up riding on the highways. Ironically the freeway felt safer, it had a bigger shoulder. But yeah, its not a good mix. I think I trust the self driving cars more!

I wonder if elevating the WeBoost antennae maybe even 5-10 feet would improve internet speeds?
@CarlinComm

Maybe 200 feet, I walked on top of that ridge line, in the thumbnail with a phone the first year, still no phone signal.

The Weboost is wonderful, in that it works at all out here, I'm just in a bad spot I guess. And yet every third day things just work great, no idea why.

I was wondering why you are shooting at 360p but was hesitant to ask.

No secrets here, but I'm usually trying not to bore everyone with the details! I think the last 2 videos I've uploaded on the bike at the dump, that's the nearest that the cell signal really works, so 7 miles from home. Those uploaded in about 5 minutes from the phone, vs 7 + hours from home over the WeBoost. The WeBoost works great, if it had signal to actually boost!

Maybe create a mobile station to get above the mountain top 🤔
@CarlinComm
@CarlinComm Год назад
@@JosephGodwin137 First year here, the "mountain" that is in the thumbnail, that's north east, the freeway is on the other side, a few miles away. So I walked up to the top with my cell phone, still no signal from the top. There is another ridge line between that and the freeway. So we'd need at least 2 repeaters, and solar panels to power them, and permission from who ever owns that property. The other idea was doing a drone with GPS, to fly to the dump, where I know signal starts, its about 6 or 7 miles. Fly, land, upload the video, fly back. So we have multiple choices all starting in the thousands of dollars range. Or I just work on my bike and ride to the dump.

@CarlinComm thanks, at least you have a solution to the problem 👍 off-grid living has pros and cons and you learn to quickly adapt to one's environment 😉

I'm in the same area around 12 miles from town and use the Verizon 5G Home Internet Hotspot. It's $50 a month with autopay and I just ran a speed test 68 mb/s down and 10 mb/s up. I got it last October and it's lost service less than 5 times total and never more than 3 hours. It says not available in my area so I used a random address in MI to get through the first prompt and by the time you get to checkout you change the address to where you get mail. The device itself is about the size of a square tissue box and runs on 12v 2a so only 24w you could easily add that to your electric bike.

Thank you, that's great info! And amazing speeds, too! The way I'm looking at it though, I already have one phone plan I'm paying for. If I added a second, I might as well just get the Starlink. But I'll keep it in mind! Thanks again.
@snazzyg

@@CarlinComm I went with Verizon since there was no hardware fee unless I cancelled within the first 6 months. I have Visible for my phone at $25 a month so $75 for both much cheaper than Starlink

I was thinking an off-road, club-style golf cart with a good suspension and a 48v LiFePo4 battery pack, say 280ah and solar panels on top would be the cats meow. It's always there, always charged, speedy and get a pretty good range. the guy from the FarmCraft101 channel did this and added an inverter so he could run his power tools away from his shop - pretty awesome! Trick would be finding an off-road golf cart with clapped-out batteries - will have to start looking... 😀

This guy seems to know a thing or two, if you haven't seen his videos, its worth the time. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x838bkVWLYA.html&pp=ygUUd2lsbCBwcm9zZSBnb2xmIGNhcnQ%3D and yeah, one of my dreams has been a solar powered golf cart to drive the Alaska Highway on, solar with 24 hours of sun seems like a no brainer! Pull a little camp trailer behind it, and pack some bear spray!

at the moment, I have no choice but to ride my 2 e-bikes, I am under epilepsy watch, that is right, I am being tested ofr seizures... so I am having to do everything by bike now. I have no choice, the Dr said for me not to drive my car for an entire 6 monhts. I agree we need as many people to rie Electric bikes as possible becasue this is assinine what is goign on. I am also thankfull that Nakto is keeping with htier warranty as I had a battery failure on my bike. I am not sure if they are sending a bike or battery, whcih ever arrives I will be thankfull for as the Super Curiser I have is considered a Cargo Bike. it can haul my mower and other things with out suffering major motor and or controller burn out. 40 miles on a battery powered bike is not a bad deal. these gas prices are insane, if you see the video I posted on my channel.. i am using my santa monica cruiser to cary to plants to a garden and inthe paniers are are two loaves of bread. As for the story on my siezures, I blanked out on our son's aba therapist 2x in the same weak, I may be having what is called Absence seizures, and I may have had them all my life. I am placed on seizure medications that slow my mind down. but hey I can rememebr where I put things now... Yesteraday while being connected to the eeg, I went absent concious wise.. I could not respond to the tech connecting me to the machine I was in the middle of talikng about MRIs and how they scan the brain and shw siezures as lighthing and how siezures leave traces..like..and forgive the pun.. Melted wires. .... or scarring... yes, siezures litterally scar the brain... and they damage the brain.. in time the brain can heal, but to many to fast.. is not good. There are a lot of different kind of siezrue like peti mall and grandmall..absence sizures are peti amll typ where in the middo fo talking we wind up ending the conversation abruplty and check out. thi is what happened with the tech and I... I saw her waving her hand, but I am not sure how long she was waivng her hand in front of my face. I later told her I did see her waving her hand I jsut could not respond verbally.. and I asked her can we be aware ...when we have a sieziure and she said with a resounding Yes... and that is why people get so scared. during this time all thinking process ended.. the subject i was talking on was erased.. literally erased, gone, deleted, I could not recal anythihng.. I could not recal what I was talking about, I could not recall what she was saying either..it was gone. I could not blink, I could not talk, I could not move. it was all systmes shut down... and now I think it was a siezure that caused me tow wreck my car 30 years ago. I would not wish this on anyone. its great to know that I can be in the middle of a conversation and... check out... I hope to god that does not occur whhiule I am working on my solar equipment that would be extremely dangerouse. So, I decided when I put the batteris in my solar, I am going to have a buddy on stand by.
@CarlinComm
@CarlinComm Год назад
Wow, thanks for sharing that! Seizures are kind of like an electrical storm in the brain, which sounds really scary. Short circuits and all that, poof! Have you considered switching from a bike to a trike? At least on a trike you wouldn't instantly crash if your brain takes a break. I've seen a lot of stories about why people started riding trikes for medical reasons, when they were no longer able to ride a regular bike. Anyway, yeah, take care, and be as safe as you can. Keep me posted!
@wearesolarfarmers
@wearesolarfarmers Год назад
@@CarlinComm if they get worse I will apply for a trike, It would be considered a " Medical Mobillity device" I wanted to sahre taht as there are a lot of offgirdders out there that need to know, if we have something like this, it is very importatnt we do the steps to take care of this sitatuin and not to put it off... We Love our abillity to do things, but epelepsy is something we have not real control over.. People can still live off grid, but they may need help from a buddy or use a buddy system to make sure that they are safe when they do things. and thank you. at lleasy I now know and I am at least aware of what is going on.. Oh and Ihave an excuse on why I forgot where I put my tools lol.... though epelepsy is a serious condition we have multiple routes we humans can go..One we can allow stinking thinking to get us down, 2 we can stay positive and look at it as a challange or 3... I won't mention 4..its a solution that is not a real solution if you get the hint. Life is worth living even of our brain shorts ciruits... it really has givne me a different perspective on life and what we take for granted though. . M message though is this, we can not fear what we can not control, we only can decide on how to approach what we are given. I have autism, PTSD, and if I am having siezures, it just means that I have to find different paths to doing things to star safe. Most of all my duty to keeping my son and wife safe are top priority. I am tnakfull to have the systems in place that allow me to be and to reamin independnat. and yeah, I have a lot of assistance... and Iam thank full for the people that I work with. People can not chose what life hands them, but we can chose what we do with what we have been handed. I am a fighter, winners don't quit and quitters don't win.

@@CarlinComm I'll have to venture over to that site. oh and seattle has the UPS quads, not sure if you seen those while riding through seattle... but yup...they have eletric cargo bikes that do UPS deleveries... Hmm, I think Turtle needs a diffirential.... and some aditioal reinfrcemnt... that one area seems to be a bit weak, the areaq where the bike attaches to the frame, hit a pot hole at 25 mph... it might not last... but then again I am not sure how that design will work.. what you need is .... a .... hmmm..... lets see.......ah I know what you need for a drive...a 4 kw car ev motor....just teasing... I like turtle Idea though, the back rack looks like it should be good for up to 400 lbs...is that about what you were going for..if so, might want better breaks... steel them off that motor bike....... All in all... Iam also thinking a belt drive might be better than a chain drive..and a centrpiical clutch. I hink that motor should be able to spin up one of those..I would me a very smooth shift. just tossing some ideas out there with some humor added in...I been waiting for the call from the docs and I am board to death. I got that batteries back installed in the wagon now... I jsut noticed they are sitting at 12.06 volts..I think they need a charge. I also noticed I can fit 10 100 ah batteries in that harbor freight tin can.
