This video is about replacing the heating element on a Rancilio machine that was tripping the RCD due to an earth leakage fault. It's not for the faint hearted - but doable, you do have to completely diss assemble the machine and you're dealing with water and electricity in the same box, so some knowledge and extreme care are needed.

I can't imagine how difficult it is to not only fit a new element, but film yourself doing so. Nice video!!! 👍

thank you so much for being so thorough...you somewhat named the parts as you unscrewed or unplugged them. I heard you say "this was to a thermostat with a little button, an overheat protection...or something to that effect. As I was mapping the unit before I took it apart I saw the little red button...popped out. Push done problem solved. It was an old unit, assumed it was the coil. Most importantly I get coffee tomorrow not a week from tomorrow. Cheers to you

Thanks dude - I totally forgot about the boiler overheat protection button - saved me from pulling apart my boiler!

Thanks for your video, helped me to replace the heater of my Silvia. Now its running great again. Little trick to get rid of the water in the boiler before the disassembly, use a long injection needle and a syringe or a feeding tube to suck out the water. Makes the hole process a lot drier :-) Greetings from Germany.

Lovely video, sir. I just used it to disassemble/clean the boiler after descaling for the first time in 5 years, possibly as much as 10! What a mess, as dirty as yours was clean. Yet it works and is dry. Thanks for the fine camera work & narration.🎉

This video helped me out alot! Just did a replacement on mine and the element had rusted through. I'd recommend getting a new-o-ring though when doing this replacement if anyone's thinking about it.

I was told by two different machine repair shops that my exact same machine (2013 Silvia) needs the entire boiler kit 260.00 U.S. dollars to fix my problem and they would do 8t for a price of 350.00, which seemed high considering I bought it for 600.00, but seems like I can just buy and replace the coil heating element according video. It was blowing the gfi as you said.

Well, my machine was made before the machines where you could just replace the coil, bummer. Whole boiler will need to be swapped out. Hopefully there's a video on RU-vid on how to do that.

You dont need to sandpaper the boiler. its the rubber seal that does all the sealing. If water makes it past the seal its gonna leak thru the brass. Also always hold your fill tube to pump up vertically and fill hose with water then turn on pump, it will run dry for few seconds the way you did it. 🧐👍

Need to do this to my Silvia. Trouble is its quite old and the Hex bolts holding the boiler are well and truly rusted in to place. have tried heating them and WD40 but they aint budging 🤔

Hi Cliff Jones, I have the exact same issue of rusted bolts as you had. My Silvia is a 2011 build and now it’s 2022 so no wonder the bolts have rusted! I was planning to use a can of WD40 myself to loosen them, but if you found that didn’t actually work, I’d be grateful if you would please share how you resolved the issue with your bolts? Thanks in advance.

Hi, i bought an old MissSilvia, first clean and pourge it pourge blue water... but after flushing a couple of water tank, water flows clean. The problem is that I found again a blue spot, where water drops from steam wand.. Can be a problem with heating element? Thanks
@framavia2201
@framavia2201 3 года назад
I don't think its necessarily the element - blue staining is usually from corrosion of brass or copper inside the machine, lots of flushing with clean filtered water should get rid of it. Maybe something acidic like de scaler had been left in the machine before you bought it?
@alexqwerty123

@@framavia2201 all that first flush blue water let me think so. I'll do more flushing with wand. But I'll also remove boiler to inspect.. thanks for answare and this video
