Because people like to make fun of us because they have no clue how use proper english. Or understand us; even if we speak the same language. I'm also not gonna lie, that was borderline offensive.
Peanut butter and Hawaiian pizza come from Canada. 'American' football comes from Canada (it was developed in the universities of central Canada in the 1860s then introduced to the US in 1874). The 1st recorded baseball game was one played in the Canadian town of Beachville in 1838. The world's oldest ballpark is 30 minutes away in London, Ontario. Basketball was invented by a Canadian as was the jock strap, telephone, zipper, insulin, electric light bulb, and many other things we take for granted today.
Fun facts yo can add: In 2021 the temperature record was smashed by Lytton BC with a temperature of 49.6 degrees C and the town subsequently burned to the ground. Montreal has the largest sewage treatment facility in North America and still dumps sewage in the waterways as it is too old...
I feel horrible about what happened to Lytton. That was so sad. I remember reading they broke the record, then the next day half the town was gone. So sad. :(
I know a few who say aboot. It is more common it would seem in Eastern Canada...maybe? Some Eastern Canadian's have told me that. But American's do like to poke fun at how Canadian's pronunciation certain words and "about" is one of them. Cheers!
That donut fact must be the source of the joke: when NATO has their drills, America supplies the grunts, France the planes, Germany the tanks, Britain the ships, and Canada the donuts.
9:42 Get your facts straight please. Montreal does not habitually dump raw sewages. The event that is being referenced here was a one off. The city needed to do that in order to carry out emergency maintenance work on the very water treatment facility that prevents raw sewage from being dumped in the first place.
They never said Montreal habitually dumped raw sewage. But they did say "cities" dump raw sewage into the river which is true.... and should be stopped.
@@lyncunningham2089 Huh? I said, "about"......although, I've certainly heard the word pronounced like "aboot." However, A BOOT is something I wear, and Canada is still a wonderful next door neighbor.
BC is always casting stones at Alberta saying we are poor environmental stewards, but at least we've been treating our sewage since forever. And for those whining about the oilsands, we consider it as cleaning up mother nature's largest oil spill. Oil has been seeping into the waterways naturally forever. The local native population has records of the using it as pitch to waterproof their canoes for a long time. Check out before and after pictures to see the environmental difference.
@@jetstream6389 I am a albertan mate, i have been living here for the past 7 years and I have learned a lot, we do want to reduce it but the only person people see on alberta is Jason Kenney who doesnt want to.
@@jetstream6389 I will have to agree with my fellow Albertans here. You trying living in Alberta and wonder how much my Province will be forced to give Ontario and Quebec in Equalization Payments every year. We don't need British Columbia and we most certainly don't need BC's input on how us Albertans treat stuff. If Alberta separates we most certainly don't need BC to join us. BC is a Libéral polluted Province and we here in Alberta most certainly don't need BC and their Libéral values to join us here in Alberta if Alberta separates.
@@LiberateAlberta1907if Alberta re elects the NDP and if they get rid of the monopoly of a oil industry and focus on things that could make the economy better than that could be very beneficial for the citizens. Oil has its value going down rn and having Jason Kenney is just making it worse.
My surname was McKague and I understand there is/was a town by that name in Saskatchewan. Must be nice to live in a place where everyone can spell and pronounce your name. My family moved to Australia way back when and at the time, we were the only McKagues in the country.
You're right, there is a little town with that name! How neat. Thanks for sharing. Here is it's location too. www.bing.com/maps?q=mckague+saskatchewan&form=APMCS1&PC=APMC
If we are going to talk about the St. Lawrence basin pollution, let’s talk about the US pollution and how some town are refusing to comply to the water consumption agreed by all municipalities of the region. I grew up in Montréal and back in the 70s all the beaches where closed because of the raw sewage and chemicals being dump. The Montréal region worked really hard to clean up and it now a lot better, beaches started reopening back in the early 2000s
Thanks for sharing. Maybe if this was a video on the US I would talk about that, but this is a video about Canada. From my experience, Canadian's get real angry in the comments when I talk about the US in a Canada video... So I kept it all Cananda.
Lived in Orleans Ottawa '06 - 09, couldn't take my kids to the nearest beach because of fecal matter in the river! So the big cities still get pass on polluting the rivers!! It's all about who you know and MONEY who gets a pass on the regulations!!!

I would like to add that Victoria gets a steady stream of American cruise ships docking in our waters who dump their raw sewage here. So for them to be pointing their fingers is just a little ironic.
Well... in fairness... the city's sewage system is dumping sewage in the Strait there.... As well, it is illegal for cruise ships to dump any form of sewage or waste from their ships in the State of Washington. ecology.wa.gov/Water-Shorelines/Puget-Sound/No-discharge-zone Meanwhile in BC there are no laws stopping cruise lines from dumping raw sewage in BC waters... which needs to be fixed. www.cruiselawnews.com/2010/08/articles/cruise-pollution/cruise-ships-turn-british-columbia-waters-into-toilet-bowel-of-raw-sewage/#:~:text=The%20article%20indicates%20that%20cruise%20ships%20have%20another,weaker%20laws%20on%20sewage%20discharge%20to%20save%20money. Another random fact is not everyone says about like aboot because since I’ve been watching RU-vid videos about Canada is when I realize that some people say aboot, kind of makes me feel like I must say aboot
Don't fall for the peer pressure! Haha! I hear 'aboot' often by Canadian's on RU-vid. I'm not sure if they do it for fun or if it is real. I know a few people in real life who say "aboot" as well.
Great video, keep up the good work. I'm surprised from anywhere in Canada, it's Victoria that dumps raw sewage, I've always seen Victoria as a progressive city and didn't think they would do that.
As an Atlantic Canadian myself, I can tell you that you very much oversimplified economic and population challenges of this part of our country sir! I wonder if you might also have some equally simple solutions?? Of course not, as any solutions would be nearly as complex as the issue itself yes??
It is a super complex issue. I obviously didn't have time to go in deep depth with this kind of video which I tried to keep light hearted and fast paced. There are some great documentaries on the subject I've watched, but non ever provide answers. Thanks for watching. :)
70% of comments complaining about "aboot." 20% of comments complaining about population stats from 2016. 10% of comments complaining about "city proper" vs. "city metro" populations. 100% of comments are "nice" Canadian's complaining about everything.
You are right. With so many people leaving California for other states, Canada is now slightly larger. We'll see how this plays out in the coming decades. :) Thanks for posting!
Although Atlantic Canada is poor and many places are suffering.from local economy collapse, forestry as well as mining are harder hit then fisheries. There are other economies that are thriving in the region and it has now open more into attracting immigration to be able to grow. It may be an area of economic struggles and population exodus but the best people in the world live here and we actually take the time to live, we talk to our neighbours and help out anyone that needs it even if a complete stranger. Not dissing the rest of Canada but I am sure that all that have interacted with a Maritimer or a Newfie will tell you just that. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing. Personally, the maritimes are some of my favorite areas to visit. I love the culture, the windswept nature, and the closeness of the ocean. :) Good people live there.
@@fernbedek6302 they aren’t much. Too bad Ontario can’t make full use of the whole province. Instead they are developed in only this tiny area near the lakes
We only have “washrooms”, but if you’re referring to Rest Areas you are correct. There are a few on the highway that connects the west coast to the east coast, but many of those are closed in the winter time. It’s very hard on long haul truckers with few rest stops and even fewer truck stops.
Although fishing was/is an important industry and important to "many towns", it was not "...'the' main economic factor for all of these Provinces...". If you changed the statement to "...'a' main economic factor for all of these Provinces..." then you would be closer to the truth. You are conflating what happened in Newfoundland, over the past 50 or more years, with the entire Atlantic region today. For example you stated "... they deal with depopulation..." but Statistic Canada data shows that between 2016 and 2020 the populations were growing (NS 6.0%, NB 4.6%, NL .46%, and PEI 11.70%).
@mikael perry that’s the population of the Edmonton Metropolitan Area, which includes surrounding cities/municipalitues such as St.Albert, Leduc, Sthrathcona County ect). The city of Edmonton itself is just under 1 million.
@mikael perry no sorry again that number is for the Edmonton METRO area. The City is Edmonton proper had a population of 972,000 in 2019. I can tell you right now we didn’t gain over 400,00 in a year (I live in Edmonton).
@@ryanmartin4574 that’s for 2019 populations can rise and grow which means it does not stay the same it’s 2021 i was born in Edmonton and live in St. Albert and the population has risen by a lot in Edmonton and also populations don’t have to grow slowly.
@mikael perry populations can rise and grow??? Fascinating. If you can’t tell I’m being quite sarcastic. Just give it up the City of Edmonton PROPER does not have over 1 million people. It’s pretty plain and simple. Add in cities like St.Albert and Sherwood Park and the Edmonton METRO area is 1.4 million. I’m not sure what you don’t grasp about this. I’m not trying to be overly rude but I’m just stating plain proven facts you insist on arguing. Can you imagine if Edmonton added almost 500,00 people in just over a year?? Yeeeeaaahhhh
Great video once again. Vancouver though, and actually any of the big cities, should include the metro area as it's much much larger. For example Vancouver + Burnaby, Richmond, New Westminster, North Van, West Van, Delta = well over 2 million. There is no divide between the districts
While that is true, the census isn't done that way. It's the same way in the US and Mexico too. They have "city proper" population as well as "metro" population. In most cases though, people will do city proper. Thanks very much for watching too! I really appreciate that!
@@AJMSTUDIOSvideo Never include metro area populations. No one does that. It's always city proper. Should I be going around telling people LA has 18 million people or Mexico City has 21 million? No. You state city proper data. Good job on the vid.

It has changed since the 2016 official census data shown in the video. The next official population numbers won't actually be released until 2026! The numbers you see posted are just estimates by city governments and can vary quite a bit when the official censuses come around. Thanks for sharing!

Many canadians do say eh a lot though. Usually like how others might use "right?" like "I know, right?". But aboot is a whole other breed, I don't know where that one comes from, I've never heard it in person.
So Canada (36/37th largest country by population) has a similar population to the (by far) most populous state in the 3rd most (and 1st most richest) country in the world. So?
It's quite fascinating actually. The whole country of Canada (its population) would fit in California. California already seems like it has tons of open space, but then when you take that population to a massive country, you realize how much open space there really is in Canada and how far away it's population centers are from one another. It's vast, way more than people think.
@@AJMSTUDIOSvideo More fascinating would be that Poland and Canada have a similar population, and Poland is 3/4 the geographic size of California :D Probably many other examples. I just find the California comparison tired. Another interesting one is that Canada's population is larger than Australia's and NZ's together, but if you divide the total population of the two by the total geographic area of both, (and do the same for Canada), its actually a very close number, both around 3.8 million per 1 million km2.
@@AJMSTUDIOSvideo Sure, although I think "density" is a silly measurement. Lived density is far better (the denominator only includes the km2 where at least 1 person lives, i.e. excluding completely empty geographic space).
The city of Toronto is 2.9 million. The GTA population is approx 6.2 million. Same issue with Vancouver's population. The "City" of Vancouver is only 500K roughly, The population of Greater Vancouver is 2.46 million.
