Greer Garson is one of the most underrated actresses. The nuance and sincere emotion she brings to this role is truly amazing. All through the film she has suppressed her heartbreak and in this moment she cannot keep it inside any longer… a pain which only builds and builds until that triumphant, unforgettable moment at the very end when she looks into his eyes, realizes he finally remembers her, and whispers “Oh, Smithy.” She is truly an inspiration.
This is my favorite scene in this wonderful, emotional movie. Greer Garson is so adept at pulling our heart strings. And I think it’s a wake-up call, in a way, for Ronald Colman. She is going away. He may lose her. Just a divine movie. I wish they would make a blu ray of it.
