Question: Have you been reading much lately? What are some of your book recommendations? Thanks for waking up so early at 6am to edit the video for us! The Q&A section is great, though I sometimes wonder if being under the piano would be uncomfortable for you 🙈

The under the piano thing is cool -- and nostalgic. I used to have my favorite "house" / play area under the parlor grand in the living room when I was a kid.

Thanks for this fun vlog under the piano. Under the piano is nice and focused and private. Amazingly, I could barely hear the motorcycle as your mic is really good and your voice comes through strong. Loved all the questions. I had fun listening to you speak in Cantonese. I speak half English and half Cantonese to my parents also! Congratulations on all your achievements and milestones. Looking forward to your upcoming events and vlogs. Love your Q&A and practice diaries. They help us all strive as you cover a good number of relevant questions! Thank you!!!

I really like these Under-The-Piano-Vlogs, it is interesting to get an insight into the "boring" parts of different professions workday and it is fun to hear your takes on some of these questions people have. When it comes to things like counting I guess there is a big difference between being the visiting "star" soloist and being second violin during a symphony :)

Hey Tiffany, thanks for the videos, hilarious and beautiful. Many years ago I regularly visited a friend who lived by the sea. In the main room facing the sea was a Bechstein Grand Piano. I used to stay over and she always made a bed up for me under the piano. I slept great, with fantastic noises from the sea. Best wishes from Scotland. Btw, Chinese is a beautiful and percussive language. I don't speak any but it's great on the ear.

Question: do you do any sports or exercising besides playing the piano? I sometimes experience back pains after practising many hours in a row and I was wondering if professional pianists (you) deal with that too! If so, how do you fix your back pains? Do you just take a rest or go to a chiropractor? Thanks for the videos and music, Tiffany! Keep striving :)
@raulperez2308
@raulperez2308 4 года назад
hey so quick disclaimer i'm not a pro (yet), just a student, but anyway what i do is: 1.- Never play more than 40 minutes without taking a break that's at least 5 2.- Stretch nice and long at least before and after playing, usually a couple more times. It's normal for your forearms to be tired after a while but don't allow them to burn too much everyday 3.- Stay relaxed, it's easier when you practice because you're just playing for yourself. but in general, maintaining a relaxed posture is benefitial, not just when you're playing 4.- Exercise your back; swimming is great. These all came from a really good physician i used to visit, he treats a lot of local musicians

As a modest keyboard player , i have a piece of avice for Dylan. 1-loop on the first measures untill you feel ok and start to forget the cam. You will be able to cut the loops with a video editing software. 2-prepare the song by identifying spots where you likely to fail, you will get more confidence . I think the key is to repeat the song untill you don;t have to think about it and can let yourself go and only focus on injecting your feeling into the piece. 3-Identify spots where you might be out of sync with the tempo and use a visual metronome to make sure you are on sync on some key mesures of the piece. 4 think like rallly car , identifying dangerous turns is important, you will pay more attention here and dim intepretation for a few bars 5-Like an actor learning a scene, try to overplay your emotions , and play the same bars with different emotions. you will get more control of your emotions. 6- remember you play for fun , be selfish

Yes under the piano, our family and friends all have different native dialects of of Mandarin, My wife grew up in Hong Kong (my favorite place to eat), kids all born and raised in Japan, and everyone speaks English. The best is when my wife’s BFF’ get to drinking a little, then all the languages mix and my head tends to explode. But eating together brings the best dishes from all of Asia hence I’m spoiled. I enjoyed hearing you answer in Cantonese takes me back to a Hong Kong lost forever (1980’s). Keep striving and trust your feelings, you are your best therapist.

CodySproggs hey, if definitely not Tiffany, but Nahre Sol has a very good tutorial on improving trills, and for your left hand I would recommend focusing on finger strength exercises and playing more left handed repertoire. Cheers!

Hi i have/had the same problem and what really helped me are some etudes for the left hand! I know it sounds boring but it really helped me and since your right hand already knows how to act you can translate it way easier to your left hand... Still my fav to this day is Moszkovski Etude No2 in G minor:) don’t worry with playing it up to speed in the beginning but it’ll teach you a lotnof technique😋

Question: what are your thoughts on recording? I know you've recorded an album and you have recordings on youtube, so what are your thoughts about the current 'recording climate', since it gets said now and then that it is kind of stale (more or less same recording technique's, same instruments, everything pretty much played completely flawless). Do you agree with that sentiment and what's in that case your opinion on a pianist like, for example Sokolov, who only releases unedited live recordings? (the late conductor Celibidache also was very opposed to recording, his opinion was that you could only realy experience music live) Another little question since you love Schumann so much, have you played his late pieces, like the Geistervariationen and Gesänge der Frühe? If not, you probably would love them, they are amazing and incredibly personal.
