That’s the sign of a great judoka, no malice, no ego just great technique and execution. Kosei is toying with these guys but he still looks after them. No anger. A great judo player.
It's weird to get a video recommended to you, then realize you're actually in the background of said video. It was a really good clinic. I remember there was one partner drill we all did shitty and Inoue's partner had to explain "No no, uke is supposed to be resisting hard, it just looks like I'm not resisting because Inoue is 'pretty good' at Judo".
Credit to the gentleman doing randori with Inoue at 2:00. Of all the Inoue randori videos that have popped up over the past two months I thought this fellow had a great attitude and did as well as the other guys in other videos who were seemingly going for gold.
Kosei Inoue is nothing short of a living legend. However, I do not see the need to critize the level of anyone, regardless of their belt or age. We are all on the path. There is, beknowst to me, only one worldwide standard for black belt level, and that is the Japanese Dan system. Even so though, say I earn a black belt but for some reason I cannot train for many years. Then one day I see a camp announced and decide to attend it. Am I then not worthy of wearing that black belt? Only some thoughts guys, not trying to start a world war :) I'm a green belt myself, blue in bjj. My first judo class was in 1998.
+Siuil to be fair I shouldn't have comment on the age of the other judoka. but honestly speaking, his technique is questionable. Yes it is correct, there is one standard for Blackbelt, this is why the basics foot work and balance should be the same across the board. Keep it up.
@droman30 i thought the same...it always seems to be the non dan grade judoka who seem to have the best randori with elite level judoka! there is another with a yellow belt who does just as well as a guy wearing a black belt because he is more relaxed.
Firstly, let me explain you in another way. There are two variables - weight and technique. If one of them, let's say technique is constant, then weight comes into the role. So if two judokas with different weights start wrestling it is inevitable that heavy weighted sportsman will beat his opponent.
Great video but thought it was a little disrespectful to inoue san at the end when they said "don't hurt the attraction" like that was all he was. I know he didn't mean any disrespect but he coulda worded it better.
Thomas Damsgaard It's a difference of the placing of legs and and and how you sort of scoot your hips a little to the side. Watch "nageno kata" that's the katas for throws.
It actually happens a lot, because the lighter judoka knows he can't rely on his size so he devotes all his time into technique to win. yes i am vietnamese
sorry, you're wrong. i've seen several 'top' players thrown in randori, because that's what it is. randori. practice. it's not a competition, it's a chance to try completely new things out, and shockingly enough, people make mistakes! obviously i am not referring to kyu grades throwing elite competitors here, but mid-level competitors. i am sure that over the years inoue has been dumped numerous times by people he would have annihilated in competition.
Im 100 kg and theres a guy in my dojo weighing 60 with the same amount of experience and almost the same level of technique as me who can beat me. The idea that those are the only two variables is the reason Shukurov's comments are flawed. He doesn't realize reaction time, speed, reach and individual style are all factors.
The problem is that's not why judo or any martial art was invented in the first place. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to make it so a smaller lighter person can overcome a larger heavier person. By making that previous comment about how the opponents are lighter is really ignorant. Maybe you should actually go take some judo classes before you comment.
Ok since you think that you can speak English better than me. I know without a doubt that you don't know anything about English or Judo. Why would you say I don't have a right to speak about Judo? Because I don't think weight has anything to do with it? Jigoro Kano himself wasn't a heavy man, but he created Judo so that lighter people like him have an advantage over heavier people. It seems to me like you shouldn't talk about Judo.
Actually I do know those judokas, but that's not the point. The point is that you're saying that weight has something to do with judo. Yeah sure if he weighs more you have to apply more skill and force, but weight only affects unskilled practitioners. If your opponent feels heavy you're not doing judo right. I may not have a black belt, but at least I know that much.
To the judoka in blue in the first two minutes: need to commit to the throw. if you can't commit, there will be too much space between your body and instead of a gentle throw where it is a matter of upsetting balance and guiding the weight, it becomes a contest of strength, and you spend too much energy to really gain power. Set up the throw, push/pull into a state of imbalance, then take advantage by closing in and trapping a limb so that balance can not be regained.

While I doubt anyone at Georgetown could beat Inoue, I know Georgetown and these aren’t even remotely the best that judo club has to offer. There were certainly times that night when he Inoue had to at least try.
A lot of retired greats passed through that club. I've not seen that many black belts and country patches in an American "Club" (read, not "Olympic Training Center" ala Jimmy Pedros or Jason Morris) before or since.
Remind me again how physics and sport science are the same thing? Just because someone is heavier doesn't mean they hold an advantageous position. There are so many more variables than weight and technique it's not even funny how horribly your logic is flawed.
Hey dude. I read all your comments, and it occurs to me that you blindly deny all the logical justifications of RS797. Simple physics theory already proved that heavy weighted sportsman is advantageous against light weighted opponent, provided that they are both specialized in the same field. Please give up useless obstinacy and shake hands with RS797. This is my advice

That dude at the end was clearly too old and slow...take a look closer, the was bouncing and crossing leg (horrible foot work for a blackbelt). No grip strength, bearly hanging on to your opponents gi. Inoue was being very respectful for not hurting him.

If you call that little tab with no kuzushi an o uchi gari, you can ask Inoue to show you a proper one during his next clinic. At 5:08 deashi harai, then at 5:09 O soto gari...5:10 running cross legged...Jumps again at 5:12. In 5 secs he would have been SLAMED more than 4 times. Why does belt means so much to you guys. The brown belt that fought in the clip was actually better.
the belt implies knowledge and experience. I doubt you have much in judo based on your comment. look at how hard the first 2 guys fight. does it change anything? did they beat inoue? did inoue look the least bit in danger of getting thrown? he's not fighting seriously. He looks like he's taking a nap. the first two guys got beat and I guarantee that they learned nothing. the guy at the end (the older and more experienced guy) knows that nobody in that building can throw inoue, so he plays light and moves around because he wants to get thrown. he wants to see inoue's timing and feel his kuzushi. that's what you do when you get an opportunity to fight somone of inoue's level. He is also being polite because he knows inoue is exhausted and still has a long line up of people wanting to fight him, most of which will fight super hard for no real reason. look at 2:06 when the brown belt hits him in the same spot of his left left. and look how sluggish inoue was to stand up. he was obviously hurt.BTW he's not too old for ukemi. I've seen him take plenty hard throws. If you think 48 is too old for ukemi you have no idea the longevity in training that a judoka can maintain. you ananlyze this training like it's the world championship but it's supposed to be a learning experience for those involved. Serious question: where do you train and how long have been doing judo?
Lol trying to use uchi-mata against the master of this technique this is scuicide but inoue knows that kick ass all the time isn't the spirit of judo : he works with them to help them
