Randy Grubbs Garage 10: The Falconer Part 2

The Falconer Dodici is Randy Grubb’s latest rolling sculpture; a radically new interpretation of the French curve 1937 Delahaye Type 145. The gleaming, muscled surface of the roadster is reminiscent of a WWII P-51 Mustang fighter: its sweeping lines are augmented by visible lapped panels of polished aluminum joined at the seams with flowing lines of rivets.
In the last episode, Part 1 of the Falconer, Randy built the fully-sculpted frame, a wooden form for the body panels, and dropped Ryan Falconer’s 640 hp V-12 racing engine onto the chassis.
Now, in episode #10, Part 2, watch Randy weave the custom headers, form the beautiful body panels, create a rolling chassis that’ll make your jaw drop, fire up the engine for the first time, and hit the road. It’s the sleekest, most reflective car you’ve ever seen with a mirror-like surface that reflects its surroundings, making it a high-gloss chameleon.
The Falconer’s grille is unique in the history of automotive design. It was fashioned after the Tiffany hot glass pulled-feather technique Randy learned as a glass blower.
The Falconer makes its debut at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in Carmel, California, on Friday, August 19, 2016.
From mind to metal, automotive artist Randy Grubb turns his retro-futuristic fantasies into hard-polished reality in his Pacific Northwest garage. Rated as one of the top fabricators in America by Hot Rod magazine, Randy is the creator of Jay Leno's Tank Car, the Indy Special, the B-702, and Piss'd Off Pete, the DecoLiner, the DecoPods, the Decoson, Bob Maddox's Pulse Jet Lakester, Tim “Frogman” Cotterill's Rocket 3, and now, the Falconer Dodici.
Watch for the upcoming feature on the Falconer by Brandan Gillogly in Hot Rod.

I had the enormous pleasure of spending a day with Randy up in Portland last weekend. I can't say enough how humble generous and kind of a person he is on top of being one of my true fabrication heroes.

This world needs more people like Randy Grubb, his lines are so organic they could be created by mother nature herself. Awesome.

The Falconer is nothing like the original road car shown at the start of the first video, that's the Mann-bodied car. It looks more like an open version of the Chapron coupe cars. BTW, the Wiki (Fr) page on the Delahaye 145 says that about a dozen of the V12 cars were made between 1937 and 1940

I note that some 30's/40's/50's classic cars have the rear wheel center ahead of the centerline of fender. That is, closer to the cockpit. The reverse happens at the front wheel.

With all the design creativity, developed and evolved master shop skills & quality tools. You have been working for many years with great accomplishment, a circled by friends who have collaborated with specialized knowledge brought to bear fashioning success. Why in the world would you tell J. Leno in your piece on the VW bus project, that you prefer to work alone?
@Numberonecock
@Numberonecock Год назад
Just because you HAVE to work with other people, doesn't mean you LIKE to work with other people. Sometimes you just have to do certain things to get the job done. I prefer to work alone, but I can't do everything myself, so others have to be involved occasionally .
