Funny, I had a Buick like this (and a redhead girlfriend!) but the town was Tempe AZ. You never hear songs about other places... that make you wonder why you don't live there already.
That is Steve Lukather on guitar, David Paich on keys, and the late great Jeff Porcaro on drums - on video and in your ears. Known collectively as Toto.
I just realized this too from something I saw on Instagram about Toto!!!! I remember hearing this song as a kid, but don’t remember seeing the video. I would have remembered Luke, Paich & Jeff b/c even as a little kid I already loved Toto. After seeing the Instagram post I HAD to come look for the video. Really glad it’s here b/c some things from back then are hit or miss to find here. This is great! A fun song to begin with, but realizing not just one of your favorite bands, but your favorite musician -Luke- is playing on it really kicks it up a notch!!! ❤️✨🎸🥁🎹✨❤️ Including them in the video, that’s just gold🤩
Agreed. Hey bro, I’m born and raised in LA, and will live here until I die. Sure, there are challenges, but I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. #ToLiveAndDieInLA
I lived in Las Vegas for awhile and met a lot of transplants from L A and it's not all bad believe me. They just love life with no judgmental attitudes. I loved Las Vegas too!
California has been assaulted in the social media for the past couple of years from inside and out, but California is still f'n California and LA is still f'n LA! We love it!
Meee! The 80’s were definitely the best of times. The sights, the sounds, the cars, the prices. Men were men and women were women and you could tell the difference even if the men had long hair. There was alot more friendliness and humanity. And if you got pulled over you got a traffic ticket and were on your way. Simpler and happier times in the 80’s.
@@NIKKISNOODLE Hell yeah, cushy living if you were in the the US. Cash flow, and money out the A, not to mention the party favours. Shoot, the cola was so good you likely didn't care if men had long hair haha.
Ironically it was written to be the theme for the '84 Olympics, but the IOC saw the irony in the song and thought "that's not really the kind of image we want for this..."
When did the LA Dodgers start playing this song every time they win a home game? It happened again tonight, October, 6 after LA Dodger Chris Taylor hit a walk-off 2 run HR in the bottom of the 9th. I'm not a Dodger fan, but that was damn exciting, and hearing "I Love LA" was the icing on top of the cake.
@@muttleydastardly3610 every home victory by ever sports team except thr kings I think plays this song. The kings play it after they score iirc. Been a thing for at least 30 years, cuz this song is etched into my memory from every win in my lifetime.
Love L.A. my hometown and this song emphasizes the feeling of Angelinos. Plays after every Dodgers win at the stadium which puts a nice ribbon on top. Good vibes and energy! We love L.A. ❤
What a great song. I've been in this world for some time now, and I'm visiting L.A. for this first time this June. I'll definitely be cranking this in the rental car!
If you're expecting what he sings about here you'll be disappointed. Except for the homeless people on their knees, there's going to be thousands of those LA is a shithole now
back when L.A. was the place to be. Today it is a nightmare. Randy Newman is brilliant. He captured a bit of the 80s spirit of LA in this song and video
It's a song that is unabashedly snarky and tongue in cheek, but it's grown to become Randy's signature song and the unofficial song of the City of Los Angeles. Every time an L.A. sports team wins a game or championship, this is the victory song. Yeah, L.A. is in reality far from paradise, but I'm still proud to call it my hometown.
@@OGMagg I mean MAYBE you mean cuz you live here since you also said “here” so I’m assuming you do. Anyways, so because you live here then ig I can understand in the sorta sense like you’re used to it unlike tourists who love the attractions n culture. So yea everybody wouldn’t consider their hometown a paradise (especially lesser known states n cities).
During the NFC Championship game, I had the chorus all ready to go, just waiting for the opportunity to play it for my wife who's a big Niner fan. Thank you Jimmy G.!!!!!!
I'm here because the L.A Lakers once again are in the finals since 2010! Edit: THE LAKERS ARE ONCE AGAIN THE NBA CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!! AFTER 10 YEARS OF WAIT GAWD #ForKobe
Can you believe this "LA" classic is actually 40 friggin' years old . . . just incredible! And even Toto was acquired to put in some work on the joint! #respect #longliveRandyNewman
@@TheDevilHydraProdsXXII I am totally an L.A. fan, but that NFL Championship win over the Cowboys in 1981 at the Vet and the Flyers winning their first Stanley Cup must still be iconic moments in Philly. "Broad Street Bullies"... Kate Smith singing the national anthem...
L.A. is rocking, tonight as the Rams down the Bengals in Super Bowl 56. Now, the city has got a World Series trophy(Dodgers), Stanley Cup(Kings), NBA championship(Lakers) and now, a Super Bowl trophy(Rams)!!!
There is no other state like California. I was born in LA County, Whittier. Lived in Orange County, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Had moved out of state twice to Tennessee. Just recently moved back to my home state of California. I live in So Cal, missed it, love it. Beaches, beautiful Coast line, weather. Iconic song. California is like 3 states in 1. Southern, Central, Northern. All so different and unique. So much to do here in Cali. Glad to be a Californian. I love LA!
I was born in Burbank, lived in the Los Angeles area the first 48 years of my life. Unfortunately I’ve spent the last two years stuck in Louisiana. Can’t wait to get back to California. 🥰
I moved to Los Angeles two years ago. I could never get into Basketball until I made the move, and now the Lakers won another championship in my first year watching NBA I LOVE L.A.
How could this not be a hit? Even has a few members from Toto as the backing band and Lindsey and Christine from Fleetwood Mac doing background vocals. Great solo by Luke.
Nathan East on bass who was Eric Clapton's longtime bassist. He even toured with Toto after Mike Porcaro got ALS. Paich, Lukather, and East also contribute to the "we love it!" part
This song came out at the perfect time for Los Angeles. The Lakers Showtime Dynasty era, The LA Summer Olympics, Dodgers 81 & 88 World Series Champs, Raiders Super Bowl XVIII Champs, Wayne Gretzky trade to Kings, etc.
Lived it... The sights in this video still exist, but the place in not the same. Sad to see what L.A. has become today. My family lived there for three generations, since the early 1920's. I grew up there through the late 70's and 80's. The smog is better now, but that is about it.
Crazy that this was 41 years ago, I wonder how many of the people in this video are still alive, how their lives turned out, do they watch the video and think about life back then. It's a great song. Someone made a music video a couple of years ago using every shot in this but nearly 40 years later so you can see how LA has changed.
When this song came out....California was still enchanting and L.A.was a great place for fun.I would not say that now. They have to get back to basic law and order just to start cleaning it up.California is a great State that needs an attitude adjustment.
Did you ever stop to think that maybe California isn’t the one with the bad attitude problem? There are places in California that need cleaned up for sure but point to a state that doesn’t have its dirty spots that need some fixing? There isn’t one.
Theres something about the 80s what i can remember was this.....people worked hard...no social media.....th way the sun glared in the 80s something nostalgic...the grass was greener and fresh....the trees were beautiful the music was the best 👌 👍 ...people socializing no anxiety just people out there enjoying the time out there....bmx, skateboards, 10 speeds...parks were filled kids like me having the time of our lives....Wow what a time to be alive i miss the good ole 80s 😢
Lakers at the Fabulous Forum, Chick Hearn calling the play-by-play, Magic leading the fast break, to Worthy, to Cooper, to Kareem...Slam Dunk! On the World Champion Lakers Basketball Network. I Love L.A. blaring from the Forum's loudspeakers, the crowd going nuts. Greatest memories.
I LOVE L.A. and I've never even been there. Maybe it's the DREAM of L.A., Cali in general. Been to NYC, Chicago, seen every continent on our planet ,in service to "Uncle Sam", and big city out there but L.A. is a DREAM to this southern born white boy. That piece of GOLD movie 'The Naked Gun' first introduced me to this song. But I've been in love with the idea of living in Cali, L.A. specifically since I was a single digits kid in the 70s. Binging Bosch recently and so in love with L.A. I know L.A. has problems but be PROUD if you're from there!! Love you guys.
Talk to people that live on Skid Row. Living there isn't easy if you care about having a room/apartment/home to live in. It's WILDLY expensive, even in the bad areas. I'm California born and raised. The rest of California is STUNNING compared to LA, but because LA is famous for making people famous, everyone wants to try their hand. It's just like gambling in Las Vegas.
FERNANDO AND THE BULLDOG .. tommy ,steve garvey , magic , kareem , worthy , rambis etc . LA fair in pomona .. my 83 celica .. fishing at big bear .. good times .. i love LA .
I don't live in LA and nor do I EVER wish to do so. However, I CERTAINLY enjoy the 80's tune AND the Video! ESPECIALY the vehicles, Clothing style and HAIR of that decade!👍😃US!
I spent 6 months in LA this year and I unironically echo this song. Why? Because its the only place on this planet where you can surf in the morning and ski in the afternoon and still be back to hold a paying job the next morning. It's nuts - full of crazies who both make your day hard - but also change the world. And speaking of the world - it's truly a microcosm. LA isn't a city, it's a culture and nearly a civilisation of its own, one that treasures its prominence and diversity in all the right ways. I love LA.
You're hallucinatin'. No way beach to mountain within hours. Too much traffic!! L.A.'s unique, terrific and terrible all at once, will give it that. The place needs a Buffalo NY 6' snowstorm from Pacific coast to Rocky Mountains. Water wate... wat... wa... w... ... ... ... ...
Best LA moment : waiting in line at LAX just before Thanksgiving , a guy mopping the floor was wearing a turkey hat and would say "gobble gobble" everytime he passed people. Gotta love it!
His tone and control of his lyrics is amazing. I’m a musician, and blown away by the subtle nuisances and way he sings and plays. Cannot replicate him.
Yeah this tune is paradoxically highly celebrated yet under appreciated. It’s deceptively complex, beautifully structured, packed to the gills with tons of disparate musical ideas, all of which fit together so neatly. I Love L.A. is an elegant masterpiece of a song.
My 2 year old daughter is obsessed with that song from toy story! Thought i recognized the voice! I am from LA!!! I used to live near imperial highway!! Lived on century! The east side! Grew up on the east side! I miss my pops so much right now!! I can hear him and my Ma laughin their butts off watchin naked gun!! It was a family experience like no other! I LOVE LA!!!
Randy Newman has the kind of creative musical craziness that I've loved for years and years. People can't understand why I love Randy and his music so much, and frankly, I don't give a damn.
Still have this song on my top list. Went to LA in the '90's. I could understand why people lived there, it was lovely. We saw so many beautiful things, we loved the J P Getty Art Museum. However, that was the first time I saw homeless people pushing grocery carts, begging at the Santa Monica promenade (to name one of many places), and sleeping in a park not far from Beverly Hills where policemen were waking them, telling them they had to move along. I enjoyed all the lovely things but the state of the homeless left a huge impact on me. I returned home, finished my degree and began a long career in Frontline Services in mental health and drug addiction, at one point did work in a Homeless Shelter. I think this song portrays this dichotomy between the haves and have nots, between the Beauty and the Beast.
At twenty years of age, going on twenty-one, I'm moving from Greensboro, NC to LA next year and this song gets me closer every day. Because just like the lyrics say, I love LA.
I'm not from L.A. but I've stayed there twice in Februarys prior to 1984 and I loved it, love this song too! Go get 'em L.A. Rams & Chargers ! I love L.A.!
You're better off in New York. Everything is closer to get to, and you have the subway. New York has it's imperfections, but it's a far better place than LA.
I remember when this was the theme song for the ABC network. This dude got a lot of soul! He is a prolific songwriter for several movie soundtracks also!
Sublime singer/songwriter/musician with imagery that captures the essential LA of those times. I was born and raised in NYC but I love LA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some days I really miss the city of my birth. Driving down Pacific Coast Highway to the South Bay to see family. Dad just cranking old school Van Halen and getting Tommy's to eat. While the song's lyrics are obviously tongue in cheek and morally ambiguous, I choose to view it in a positive light. Masterful songwriting. Such a killer hook.
That is why I'm here. The LA Rams are going to the Super Bowl and I couldn't get this song out of my head. Giving me that Beverly Hills Cop nostalgia! Frank Sinatra has New York, Ray Charles has Georgia. Is Randy Newman on their level?
