Randy Newman Takes On Politics With His New Album (HBO)

Randy Newman, 73, is releasing his first studio album after a nine year hiatus. Although he’s well known in popular culture for scoring various Pixar Films, his studio albums are wrought in political satire, racial identity, and politics. After we see him play a live concert, we will go to his house to get an intimate, and hopefully hilarious interview about his career and his new album, "Dark Matter."

Killed it at the Hollywood Bowl last night - loved the Putin song. He was backed by his band and orchestra and had some great intros to the songs and was funny as hell. Great show even at his age. Still got it.

It's up to them, what I'm saying is that many artist use their art to express their political views. As a producer myself I try to avoid to say anything political with my music these days. Everybody gets offended very quickly nowadays

Rednecks - a song literally shown in this video - is a song about the abysmal state of the character of the average American Southerner, and how that has made the North hypocritical: People who have this "moral high ground," but whose treatment of minorities is no better. The only difference really being that they don't openly express racist personality traits. That is a critique of Democrats and their platforms, even if it is indirectly so.

I have been a Newman fan for a long time but I don't agree with his views this time. I happily fly the flag for President Trump and am proud to be a supporter over here in New Zealand. Roll on 2020 when he continues to keep America great.
