High mr Oliver i have some encouraging weather news Australia despite earlier predictions is getting really good rain again for the 3rd year in a row for wa but now a band of rain sweeps the whole continent with cold temperatures and huge rains ,more on the way .maybe this will happen for California too, i hope so as I want you to stay in buisiness. your approach to verroa control is so logical. many people who can't think dont recognise how powerfull it would be if we all could identify any varroa free hives and breed from them. Without destroying our income.

Well done Randy ,persaveer ,your name is going down in history. Unfortunately the political pharmaceutical agendas are also going down in history. Historically persaveerance wins.

Intrigued by your selective breeding for varroa resistance. In effect, you are simulating the natural evolution that would take place if we left the hives alone. Weak resistant hives will die out and remove their genes from the gene pool. Resistant hives survive and breed with other resistant hives. Over time the gene pool becomes stronger and stronger in resistance to the mites. By treating hives you stop the gene pool evolution which helps commercial keepers in the short term but is detrimental in the long run for bees. Russian bees from Siberia naturally went through this evolutionary process over a hindered and fifty plus years. The USDA study showed these bees to be fifty percent more resistant than Italian varieties. These bees also handle cold winters far better. The book “Russian Honey Bees” tells the story.
