My Ozzy Osbourne Playlist! • Ozzy Osbourne
In this Randy Rhoads guitar solo lesson, I will show you how to play his incredible unaccompanied guitar solo off of Ozzy Osbourne's live "Tribute" album. This solo break happens in the middle of the song "Suicide Solution".
I loved listening to this album as a teenager, and Randy's solo spot was always a highlight for me.
The tuning on the original recording is slightly sharp of standard tuning, so you may want to take that into consideration if you want to play along. However, this video lesson is simply in standard tuning.
This solo is extremely challenging with insane legato licks, large shifts, and some incredibly fast alternate picking as well.
For the most part, I will break the lesson up into sections that match the pauses Randy takes in the solo, except when there is an obvious shift to a specific technique, like the tapping section.
I hope you guys enjoy learning this incredible piece of guitar history from the late great Randy Rhoads! #randyrhoads #guitarcovers
Carl...

You missed out a section at 34:10 and I cant figure it out! Fantastic lesson. Randy taught me my 1st chord (A) and I played it on his Les Paul through his actual touring backline. It made me feel sick it was so loud!! I was only 9yrs old at the time. My Dad worked for Don Arden at the time, thats how this occured. I was to young to appreciate what was actually happening!

This is like Randy’s Eruption. Explosive, virtuosic and legendary like the man himself! That being said, you should finish “I Don’t Know” or make a lesson on “Flying High Again” Edit 2: or even better, teach Suicide Solution so we could play this solo afterwards 🤘

Honestly, I know we only have two studio albums and one live album to judge Randy on (save the Quiet Riot Japan only releases), but COME ON!!! Randy was a far talented guitarist than EVH... EVH was more style than substance. Randy actually studied classical guitar. He knew the ins and outs of music theory. Therefore, he created much more interesting solos. Take the solo for "Goodbye to Romance", it's so melodic, but so technically sound. One of my favorite solos of all time.

CARL... my good man- you are a "GUITAR VIRTUOSO MANIAC!!!" I saw "RANDY" play this live in 1981- I was no more than 10 feet away from him... standing at the edge of the stage!! I'm surprised "OZZIE" hasn't contacted you!! You NAILED "THE SPOTLIGHT SOLO," CARL!! You are the "SPOTLIGHT TEACHER" dude!! AND CARL- thanx for reopening the door to memory lane!! "THE BLIZZARD OF OZ" tour is in the TOP 5 of all concerts I attended... and there were MANY!! Subsequent to "RANDY" playing (what you just played in the 1st 2minutes of this MIND-BENDING lesson,) the audience ERUPTED LIKE A VOLCANO- I couldn't hear myself think!! Even "OZZIE" was overwhelmed by "RANDY's" performance- could see it in his face!!! Guess it was just one of those nights where the stars were aligned perfectly!! Great lesson as always, CARL- KUDOS!!!

@@GuitarLessons365SongLessons Yes- very lucky... especially sinced he passed 8 months later. AND for all intent and purposes... he was just getting started. Imagine what he would've created had he lived!! In 1976 I saw "ELVIS" (I was young, but I remember). Never saw so many CRAZY women gathered together in one place (and grooving with a pict- Lol)!!! He passed in 1977. Saw "RANDY" in 1981 (guitar virtuoso who sounded better than his own recordings in concert- not an easy trick!!)... and he passed in 1982. In between, "JOHN LENNON" (who I never had the opportunity to see), was killed in 1980. ALL very sad!!! But CARL... it's phenomenal guitar players like you who's keeping "RANDY's" memory alive- NEVER underestimate the VALUE in that!! Back in "the day" we musicians had to paste our ears to records for hours ( I was just a bass player then but helped tge guitar player occasionally). I'm sure U remember the hours you spent listening to the same lick or solo over and over again. Now when I see and hear something like this on Yube I truly appreciate becuz I don't have the time to spend hours listening. I know U work hard, CARL- it doesn't go unnoticed!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

On tour a few years ago in Florida we hooked up w/ a bus company to do our driving as they were repairing our bus. Our group ended up befriending the owner of the bus company (probably because of the beautiful lady I was dating and had w/ me at the time). He requested that on an off day he wanted to take us to his twin brothers house to spend the day. That day came and as I was walking w/ the bus driver through the big house (w/ a runway in the front yard), we went into a large room where he said, "This is the room that Randy Rhoads died in." My jaw dropped as I was not sure I heard him right. I asked him a few questions then later looked it up online and sure enough it was fact, the place was and will be, forever sacred. Gone too soon. Its always that way. Just a little story... RockonCarl!

Hi Carl, as you know. I have commented on this video a few times. I too am a huge fan of Randy and he is the reason I picked up the guitar in the first place. Mike Gross once ran this solo as kind of a note for note, on his channel. He did a pretty nice job. However, there is no one else that has ever done it as well as you have here. It's really quite amazing how well you ran this solo. More importantly, the way you teach here is even more amazing. You have made it so much easier for me to learn. Thank you!!! I come back to this video quite a bit. Sometimes to run the solo again. Other times, to pick pieces out of this solo... For example: There are many small pieces of this solo that I have found can be used as warm up techniques. Really helps with hand dexterity. And all of it is so cool sounding, it makes you want to practice and use these techniques as a means of learning and exercising. Thanks again, Carl. This is Killer!!!!

Randy taught me my 1st chord on his white Les Paul when I was 10yrs old! My dad worked for Don Arden and toured with Ozzy from day one of his solo career up to the death of Randy. In fact my dad would have been on the bus except for an incident that required my dad fly back to London. Anyway, I met the band at Shepperton Studios, they were rehearsing for the next US leg of the tour (the one on which tragedy struck), and my dad took me along. Randy and Rudy Zarzo were just the coolest. I played his Les Paul through a full backline!! It was so loud it made me feel sick. I was so young I did not fully appreciate just how lucky I was to have this experience. I look back and wish I had photo's etc. I had a ton of guitar and bass picks and even a set of sticks from Tommy. But I lost them over time. Thank you for doing this video, it brought back many feelings. Im gonna try to learn it over the next few months and try and do Randy justice, but I doubt it! lol!!!

Randy Picked almost everything, including hammer on solo, he used a plexi boosted with a vol pedal, asymmetrical clipped mxr Distortion Plus and 10 band eq, sort of like a 3 channel marshall., normally two channels with one boost like a Boss SD1 is enough but to add the col pedal before the tube preamp of a 50 plexi is high gain, you can get the exact effect with soften marshal plexi-jcm800 2203 or the 2550, using a boss sd1 emulator like plugin alliance yellow drive which has the asymmetrical clipping diode simulation you can add second sd1 and eq just a tad.
