Thanks alot Michael. I'm gonna have to listen to the whole show later today but man I love how in your face Randy is here on the tracks I heard. Thankfully too cause Ozzy's voice is crackin and all over the place in some spots.

@@MichaelDouglasSkewes Although I think the rock n roll hall of Fame can be kind of a joke.. it's so cool Randy's getting in!! I don't know if they're gonna honor him with anyone playing his stuff but at least it's a nice acknowledgment. Maybe this will somehow be the catalyst to get some of that professional footage out there. I know.. doubtful but this kinda thing keeps me hopeful.

My personal Diary I wrote the next day after the last show of Randy Rhoads in Knoxville Tennessee! RIP RANDY! YOU ARE SORELY MISSED! OZZY OSBOURNE: THURSDAY MARCH 18TH 1982: RANDY RHOADS LAST SHOW AT THE KNOXVILLE CIVIC COLISEUM: DIARY OF A MADMAN TOUR: Upon entering the coliseum after buying my tour shirt and ticket 🎫 stub processing: I noticed the stage was set up like a medieval castle with arches and bats 🦇 flying around the top of them. There was a staircase leading up to Tommy Aldridge’s Drumkit. The top left of Tommy was where Donny Airey’s keyboards were set up. Stage right and left had to cages with which Randy Rhoads would appear from the floor stage right and Rudy Sarzo stage left. OZZY had a throne of which he would appear out of to start the show to Over the Mountain. Tommy had his drum tech dressed as an Executioner stand beside his kit with his arms crossed. The staircase had a small section that would open and a small dwarf named: Ronnie (after Ronnie James Dio the new singer for Black Sabbath-replacing OZZY) and hand OZZY towels and water between songs. Little did we all know that later in the show: the executioner would bring the dwarf out to be hung from the rafters and later he would cut off his head using a guillotine! At the end of the show OZZY climbed onto a giant mechanical hand that OZZY stood on top of and launched unspecified meat 🥩 🍖 into the audience! Of course it was all an a theatrical act as the dwarf appeared to take a bow with OZZY and the band. When OZZY smiled we noticed he put vampire 🧛‍♀️ teeth in! We laughed hard! I went to the show with my friend Richard and his older brother Greg who was 18 at the time. We were 13. Greatest show on earth! Richard and I were both terrified and thrilled at what we witnessed! Unfortunately the next morning all that excitement and energy was gone as we learned that Randy Rhoads perished in a plane crash in Florida. Richard and I played drums but Greg played guitar 🎸 and he definitely took it the hardest! One of the greatest guitarist of our generation and had just won the new guitarist of the year by Guitar Player magazine. Rest In Peace Randy Rhoads your music lives on! Sincerely, Gary Lagstrom

@@chriscanndyI still have the diary as I wrote a book 📖 report about it and got an A which helped me pass 7th grade! I sucked in English but good in Math! Greg helped me with names like Rudy Sarzo and Don Airey. I knew OZZY, Randy, and Tommy because Randy was from Quiet Riot and Tommy from Black Oak Arkansas and Greg had them on the turntable constantly along with Blizzard of OZZ album and Black Sabbath! Yes it scared the hell out of me and Richard and Greg between puffing on a joint throughout the show was laughing his ass off at us! I tell you nobody played like Randy Rhoads the tuning, the technique, the classical influence-the Mozart of his generation! Sorely missed then today and forever! RIP RANDY RHOADS 😎😎😎❤️❤️❤️🎸🎸🎸

Yeah! But it actually was pissing Randy off. Because the bigger they got the more he partied ,Randy got more serious the bigger that they got! Randy was going to leave ,but,after the Classical Guitar thing at UCLA ,he was going to see if Ozzy had calmed down,he did like Ozzy,as crazy as he was. But he was ready to move on too. He wasn't just going to go back teaching. And maybe MIT would have been in there somewhere. People can only guess! He could have even gone back to Quiet Riot,as long as they stayed heavy! Randy really liked playing heavy guitar ,especially live!

Every show was taped on Audio and at least 25 shoes were recorded with 3 or 4 cameras ,and was going to be released as part of the contract with CBS ,but when Randy was gone ,they used Brad instead, Something is stopping anyone from putting anything out, but I think the closer Ozzy gets to dying ,something will finally happen ! I saw the Chicago 82 Diary show ,and the first show of this tour ,at the Cow Palace ! Randy is friggin amazing ,and Ozzy is horrible as usual. That could be why, but I think it's a legal thing!

Ohh a little bit of trivia in regards to those few tune up gigs they played .After they got all the material written and rehearsed for weeks Randy had a idea to play a handful of warm-up shows before the UK release of the Blizzard Album so they could gage the audiences reaction to the new material and Randy had the band booked under the anonymous band name " Law" or "The Law'" so nobody would know who they were especially Ozzy .they felt that if no one had heard the songs and had no idea who there were they would get a true reaction to the band and music .it was a brilliant idea cause I'm sure it was a total shock to the patrons who were about to see .but Ozzy being so well known in the UK from his time in Black Sabbath that it didn't take long for the word to spread quickly throughout the crowd as they filled in the front door .guess employees recognized Ozzy as the band was setting up there equipment before the show and leaked the surpriseabout to take place .but can you imagine going to a small pub seeing the Marquis out front with a band nobody had heard of and thinking you were going to see a amateur local band named "Law" and ended up seeing The Blizzard Of Ozz Bands first ever live appearances ? had to be amazing and by the sounds of people in attendance they were truly ecstatic .I'm sure the creator of this RU-vid channel is a Huge Rhoads fan like myself and already.knew about the tune-up shows under a anonymous band name but sure very few fans Ozzy and Randy fans actually kno this little bit of Blizzard Trivia .I picked up a Hit Parader Magazine back in 1981 after seeing Randy and Ozzy one the cover just weeks before I saw them live in Sept 81 in Tampa Florida on the Blizzard Tour with a very young Def Leppard opening up for them.

Yeah,I grew up in Burbank and was neighbors' with Randy,so I started taking lessons from him when I was 12. That is how I know all this tuff and had the opportunities to get all the soundboard recordings and Videos-which I can;t post- but it was actually talking with Randy when he would come back to Ca.,I would ask him how it was going ,he would tell me how crazy it was how fast everything was moving once they put Blizzard of Ozz out! Anyway,it was Don Ardens idea to do a few warm up shows under a different name The Law ,actually at a theater ,and the day tickets went on sale ,they had leaked that it was Ozzy's new band! I have that show ,someone recorded it thank goodness,I thought I already posted it,I guess not. But ,Randy was like the new kid in the band ,he didn't have much say about anything business wise,so it wouldn't have been his idea. Just so you know. I hate correcting people because it makes me sound like a know it all! I just happen to grow up at the right place at the right time. I was in a few bnads in the 80s and early 90s ,so I know that whole thing. Anyway,I just try to keep Randy's name and memory out there ,because he was an amazing guitar player! And a really nice guy!

@@MichaelDouglasSkewes Thats awesome .yeah he definitely sounded like a genuine person that wasn't letting the instant notoriety go to his head like others that came up outta the whole LA scene .I grew up in Orlando Florida and fell in love with the Blizzard songs immediately after hearing I Don't Know for the first time in 81 when I was 15 .saw him live in Tampa Sept 81 at a ridiculously small auditorium few just a few thousand people there .actually got to the venue hours early to make sure we got tickets and saw him and Rudy walking down the sidewalk towards the venue .they must have been walking from the motel but yeah I had no idea how they were cauce I had no idea at that time that they had got rid of Lee and Bob yet so had never seen Rudy and Randy had just dyed his hair bleach blonde not long before .I had seen pics of him in a magazine and on the back of the first record and knew his hair wasn't that blonde .but soon as I saw them both up on stage I was like wow that's them .I mean I walked right by them outside and think he might of recognized me also from outside cause he just kept looking at me and smiling and laughing at me .I was right up front on the floor against the railing of the stage. I kinda stood out then my hair was longer than his and platinum blonde from going surfing every day lol .dude I kid you not I was mesmerized the while time he played .I mean I couldn't take my eyes off him .his stage presence was unbelievable .I mean he owned the stage .total Rockstar .I was a Eddie fan from 78 after buying their debut album and had seen Ed twice before Randy and Eddie didn't play with as much emotion and feeling as Randy .I had tickets to see them in Orlando at the Tangerine Bowl with Fournier the day after he got killed and heard on the radio the just a few hours after it happened .the crash was just like 50 miles from my house. As crazy as it seems I actually felt I lost a family member .I mean I didn't kno him but I felt like I did from just seeing him live and him being my favorite guitarist from the second I hear his on the radio .and the Diary Album is still to this day my favorite record of all time.

@@MichaelDouglasSkewes He showed up with a guitar and practice amp because when Strum called him up it's all he told him to bring. He'd been trying to get Ozzy to listen to the guy all day & Ozzy kept slagging him off. Finally by the time he managed to convince him to give the kid a listen it was late in the afternoon. There was no time to set up a proper interview with full amps, guitars, etc. He basically had Randy show up at a hotel room & Randy was in a separate room tuning up. There are good odds that it was Ozzy being hung over and wanting to go back to his hotel as much as it was him being blown away by Randy that got him the gig.

@MichaelDouglasSkewes This was 10 days after I seen Them On Jan. 29th,1982 @ The Hullman Center - Terra Haute , Indiana. My story , 5 friends & I got tickets After the assembly hall Show in Champaign , Illinois was Sold out ..Good thing since Ol Ozzy passed out on stage. Anyway We Get to the show - General admission seating show. almost got kicked out for sneaking in a Bottle of jack daniels , But they took it and let me stay. 1st thing i noticed was Ozzy looking like he just crawled out of bed , Wearing Blue Sweat pants and a Red Belt and spitting Listereen on everyone in the front 3 rows ..I was in the front row on Randy`s Side . Randy had a Black tanktop on with Black Leather pants and Played His 1974 Les Paul Custom all night , Never played anything else until the Sabbath Encore Songs , then he played The polka Dot V. Early in the show , a guy from the 3rd row threw a rebel Flag on stage , Ozzy Picks it up and Says , "Yeah I`m a Rock N Roll Rebel alright and throws it back . Then a few songs later someone throws a lit Joint on stage , Ozzy tokes on it 3 times & throws it back and says Lets get High - Flying High Again starts . Ozzy`s Voice really sucked all night , like strep Throat , But I was there to see Randy Rhoads Play anyway . I did get a Concert Diary Of A Madman Blue & Grey Polo , 45 min. concert . we didn`t stay for UFO , decided to head back home to Illinois . On March 18th happened we were so sad and Mad at the same time. I did end up seeing Ozzy again at the Ozzfest in the Summer of 2000

Cool story,typical Ozzy being a f'd up jackass,that is why Randy was telling him he was leaving! Randy did want to get a masters in classical at UCLA and his mom had it all ready to go because that is where she went! But,Randy was kind of hoping if he threatened ozzy he would at least not get as messed up before he went on stage! It was like Randy gets his chance to show the world he is the next guitar master! ,and he has a fat stupid drunk tied to his ankle! I know it would have worked out for Randy ,and I guess Ozzy would have probably pulled it together ,but it was way more than oz being an addict ,he needed serious therapy! But,what happened was also Sharon's fault letting a suicidal bus driver ,1 , drive the bus and 2 take people up in a plane ,when it was clear to half the crew that this idiot was determined to take himself and the 2 big band members out ,and his wife at the same time! Sorry,I always end up going of on a rant ,Randy was a great friend ,and the best teacher I ever had ! Anyway,it is cool to hear what other people did when they went to see Randy ,and ozzy.

Thanks Skewes! Definite improvement! I wonder if one of the new programs that separates instruments could isolate the vocal, then we could put it out of phase with the original and get rid of most of Ozyy haha. Little multi-band compression around 2k for the cymbals possibly? It'd be cool to mess around with, I'll have to get one of those apps. Anyway, appreciate your effort, thanks again!!

Thanks ,and you are welcome! As you know ,the0 original recording ,maybe it is slow ,but I've been listening to it like that since 1983 ! Anyway ,someone had taken the one i posted and adjusted he speed and reposted it ,not cool! So I decided to take it and EQ it a bit ,not much ,just to bring out the guitar. This is what the soundboard input is ,so that is why the stereo delay sounds off ,and not a good sound. You would think it would record the output ,so it would sound better. Anyway, I have a copy of this with Ozzy mixed almost out completely, it's sounds great to me! I might put it out ,I'm not sure, everybody is just takin them and reposting them on their youtube channels, that is annoying! I'm glad you like this ,I'm working with some people ,including Randy's family ,to put out some cool stuff soon!

Hey I've heard the original version of this show and I'll say right off the jump Randy's part definitely sounds much better and clearer but there's just no helping Ozzys vocals which were horrible to begin with and still sound horrible but it's nothing nobody could improve as he had just blew out his voice playing nightly .the only real live recordings where Ozzy sounds really good is the bootlegs of the tune-up shows they did before their first UK tour .think it was 6 shows all together in England and Scotland in the late spring of 1980 .the venues were small bars and pubs and the recordings I've heard were excellent .got to hear a couple early versions of Crazy Train .Suicide Solution .and one or two more that had completely different intros and even alternate solos that are not on the Debut album .these had to be recorded on cassette tape players cause they were recorded by patrons in the audience but really sound good quality wise especially Ozzys vocals .and the 1982 Halloween Speak At The Devil concert with Brad Gillis and was aired live on MTV and simulcast through fm radio stations all over the country .bar none that recording is with out a doubt the best ozzy has ever sounded live .thanks for the content
@MichaelDouglasSkewes
@MichaelDouglasSkewes 5 месяцев назад
The MTV Speak of the Devil vocals were run through pitch corrector, you can hear it ,because it was still a new thing, Vince Neil was run through onto too ,but he actually started working on his voice and by Girls Girls Girls tour ,he was better. But now they try and have him sing to a pre recorded track,but he still sounds bad. Even though I did see Motley Crue on new years eve and I think John 5 is forcing the band to be tighter. Ozzy's voice really bad on the Diary tour especially because he did a lot of coke, and that basically destroys your voice by numbing the throat and vocal chords,so he did sound better after he had Zakk in the band ,a lot better,for Ozzy that is!

@@MichaelDouglasSkewes I wondered how Ozzy sounded so good for that Halloween gig lol I had just turned 16 at the time of that show and I watched it live that night but couldn't tell you how he actually sounded that night but just knew after seeing the Speak of the Devil DVD years and years later that dame he sounded good .and no one ever agrees with me on this but out of all the guitar players of Ozzy through the years that Brad Gillis did the best job at playing Randy's songs as close to the original of any of them .I saw Ozzy with Jake .I saw him with Zak twice .I've heard Joe Holmes and even the couple shows Bernie Torme did but yeah the recordings I heard of Brad along with watching that Halloween show Brad did good on them songs .

@@johnhagan582 Yeah,they had to do something for that voice! He does have a decent voice,on Sabbath bloody Sabbath,Master of Reality and Sabbatage ,He was really good,but he was in his 20s in Black sabbath! So,after he cleaned up,as much as Ozzy could clean up ,he s ounded pretty good! I ran into Brad Gillis down at the Rainbow in Hollywood in around 87 and talked with him about how I knew Randy and no one was going to take his place blah blah, but when i heard Brad Gillis ,I was thing ,this guy is really good! He was running 2 mesa Boogie amps in stereo when no one knew what they were ,and his playing was great,even on the album speak of the devil! He said he was embarrassed of it.that he and Rudy and tommy all had little cassette walkman and they would try learning the songs like that,and at sound checks they would run through the songs ,never with Ozzy ! Ozzy said he already new the sabbath songs, and could do it without any rehearsal! The band thought it was going to be a disaster,but ozzy did knock them out in 2 shows ,and went into the studio and fixed some parts,but anyway Brad was great, I agree!!

Actually ,he is just lucky! Don Arden and his son hired the first band, Ozzy and Sharon forgot about Randy by the time they got back to England. Don had Bob Daisley lined up and some other drummer and guitar player ,and Ozzy was still a drunken wreck. Dana Strum called to see if they were going to use Randy, with Dana thinking he would be on bass . Anyway ,when they remembered Randy and sent for him ,that was it, a great guitarist ,and with Bob ,they finally got Lee ,and that was the band that launched Ozzy ,with the back stabbing Sharon pushing the old drunk , and with Bob writing every song on the first 5 albums ,he was set ,it was more that good musicians wanted to be in Ozzy's band because of the hype around him. Ozzy has no talent, but talent seems to find him. I'm still pissed off that he basically ran over Randy and just kept going! Randy was my friend, why isn't he still here and Ozzy gone!!! Oh well, that's why I put this stuff out!

@@MichaelDouglasSkewes what I don't get is why aren't there any "Ozzy" songs written about/dedicated to Randy?! Yeah this sounds a bit fast to me too. But the EQing definitely makes Randy pop. I been a professional singer for decades . It surprises me that Ozzy doesn't know how to blend his head voice at this point . This isn't hard to sing if you sing it right . I learned most of my technique from Stevie Wonder he's the Master at it. Then theirs singers like James LaBrie that give it away and then some. I still think he's right for Dream Theater . 1st time I heard him another singer and I just looked at each other like WTF is he doing? It's like a magician giving away their secrets. Even tho it's not a secret and takes a couple decades to master. But Ozzy is beating the shit out of his voice. That's like your voice the next day if u were in the crowd at this show. How'd he do it every night? He must have hated touring because if you're struggling every night that's hell. He was implementing it on Bark at the Moon. Randy is killing it man. I heard a harmony on the intro of the lead in Crowley but now I hear keys . Jesus that keyboard sound in Crazy Train is pretty bad. I always loved Randy's ballsy sound . If you make a mistake with that sound you're gonna hear it yesterday, just shows how good he was . The panning on his sound is cool. What magical studio recordings they captured with those first 2 albums. Bark at the Moon is no joke either. Ozzy sounds a little better in Revelation Mot... Check that. - Thanks for this . I will never get tired of these songs.

The stereo delay kicks in. It happens all through the show!? It's just more pronounced because you hear the soundboard inputs. It's not mastered ,like an album is , it's right from the board. And it was triggered at the board . If you never saw this tour,it probably sounds strange on this,but it was a great live effect.

@@CrystalRecords well,don't worry ! This confuses a lot of people when they hear it. It's triggered at the soundboard and you are hearing the input at the board ,so you don't hear what it sounded like mixed and what the audience heard, which was a big .......guitar effect that sounded like the sky was opening up! Randy had worked on this for months, and was really cool. But ,unfortunately,the few soundboard recordings I have posted are the only way you can hear this effect. It's a Roland stereo space echo. He also had a separate Marshall stack with a echoplex on it ,and wax triggered and ran through the p.a. in stereo. So ,he was trying different things to get that effect. Don't feel bad not knowing what you were hearing. I'm glad that you like Randy Rhoads and are asking questions, please feel free to ask about anything. Yes, i grew up just a few blocks from Randy Rhoads, I met him first when I was 12 ,and then took lessons from him until he left for the Ozzy gig. Yeah,the effect didn't sound like that live,but when you hear it directly from soundboard, it's really drastic ,but still cool. Yeah I actually have had people think I did something to the recording! So, yeah I have a lot of soundboard recordings, but some keep getting talen down,usually Sharon Osbourne, but I have every show Randy played with Ozzy. I try and post as many of the good recordings that I can. And a few videos ,in have 3 full pro shot diary of a madman tour shows ! But ,those are really hard to keep up. They get flagged .
