I don't mind that unit carrying it around. Once you've carried vinyl and turntables in a large flight case this is nothing compared to that Oh and let's not forget separate powered amplifier and speakers.
Cleveland gave me 4 18” earthquakes and 4 2kw amps with rolling boxes. Heaviest shit I’ve ever had to drag to the desert. But it smashes at those desert parties and it’s impressive looking. Thanks Cleveland!

I had the Rev 7 and traded it in for the Performer and could not be happier and mainly for these reasons: Four channels, non proprietary power cord, on board stem controls, also for what ever reason, my Rev 7 was very glitchy with both Serato and Rekordbox.. no issues at all with the Performer (Serato) which i prefer anyawys. Also appreciate the metal build w/ feet on bottom. The Jogs are a tad bigger and super torquey and responsive. when i attach turn tables or cdj's etc, the four channels come in handy or I can use four deck channels internally as well. True they are both great, but at the same price point I just see so much more value and capability with the Performer and am very happy I got it. Cheers!
Man rane had a chance to really win a few people over but as someone that uses a rev but actually wants a rane I can’t do it. Rane needs a true battle style minimal version of the Rane one. The layout is what kills it for me. It’s a diarrhea of buttons. And stuff like the left pitch fader and right stop button being awkward position is a no go. Especially when motorize platters are supposed to be for a specific group of djs. They need a rane one special edition, no screen in the jog 2 ch with a true battle layout. With 1/3 the buttons. It only needs effects and stems. And the typical 8 pads. Or make a modular version (it would cost a ton) where you can move certain layouts
Awesome breakdown. If I didn't already have the Rev and I was trying to decide between the 2, after watching g this I would still go with the Rev just cause of personal preference and it having the same layout as my S11 and Rane twelves. Also I had the 1000SRT and I never used channels 3 & 4 on that so the other faders and eq knobs are just clutter to me. But I do think Rane did a couple little things better that I wish the Rev would have done. Like the magnets that hold the platters on instead for the plastic clips. That was a good idea. Also giving people the felt slipmats along with the plastic ones is nice too. Cutting up some slip mats to put in my Rev was a little bit of a pain. This is an excellent demo video of these 2 competing controllers. 👍
I was going to ditch my Rane One for the Rev7 I just loved the layout of the Rev7 with more features but I was givin a faulty Rev7 which I bought brand new from the box it put me off instantly so I went back to the Rane One lol.. Love my little tank😂
Cleveland which one would go better with Virtual DJ ? I have used the Pioneer DDJ sx2, and the Pioneer DDJ sx3. I have never used anything rain with Virtual DJ?
Everytime I see any comparisons to any Rane products from you. You low key subliminally crap on Rane. You just seem to be a big fan of Pioneer products. Which is cool. To each their own. But just my observation.
Thank you for comparison for both controllers. You’re making me happy with my decision to keep both my Rev7 and 1000-SRT. I had the Rane 4 and I had to take it back. But now seeing this comparison between the Performer and Rev7 is really no difference. I’m definitely keeping my Rev7 and I’m not even gonna think about getting the Performer. I was young and dumb. Had a coffin with an amp with my mixer and turntables. I think 90% of the old school dj’s have back problems from the old heavy equipment.
With the new firmware update (v2.0.1) on the Pioneer Rev 7, there is stem split buttons...hold hot cue and press the scratch bank button. To enact the stem blue button function. So the Rev actually wins.... given its a 2 year controller.😊
Buyer be very aware that the last unit the Rane 4 was plagued with issues I have one in which I repaired myself no thanks to Rane customer service. Do not jump out and spend your money right away Check all forums about both units and make a decision.

Absolutely reaffirms my decision to not buy the Performer. With the Rev 7, it's all I need. I spin primarily House Music here around Chicagoland. I'm not forgetting my power cord or need stem splitting. There's no 2 thousand dollar reason for me to move on to the Performer. I have the Rane One, which I do not even bother with, because the pitch on both sides is equally far off zero center. So I'm not sold on Rane quality with controllers. They get no more of my money! 12 years of Pioneer controllers, and I've had no issues! I still have and use my Pioneer DDJ-SX2!
The fact that you still need to connect a laptop doesn’t make it a “ kinda standalone “. The term standalone simply means no dependence on laptop. It won’t work without laptop connected.

I have both controllers the rev7 and the Rane Four Performer. Both controllers are good but when it comes to stems the Rane Four nails it! It's a different type of controller. I have much more fun using the Performer. My mixes on the Rane Four are way different from the rev7. The split stems take it to the next level. I like to split stem the track use the filter roll on the vocals believe me it sounds real cool or use the onboard FX that the new Rane four has other than just the echo. I can make my tracks sound like a remix using the cool new FX. The little screen on top of the pads I love so much they make a difference, I label my hot cues and acapellas and it will show on the little screen how I labeled them also for my samples so I know what samples I have. All I can say I have much more fun using the Rane Performer, I can be all day using the Rane Four coming up with crazy ideas. Can't wait to use it for my next gig.
Here's what I don't understand about the battle style on controllers. That method was only used to make it more convenient for turntablists to have a bigger area of the record to scratch etc. There's no two ways about it it's an awkward setup and seeing there is no time arm, it defies the point... the pitch being in an awkward position was a trade off & as much as I understand some may be used to it... it was always a compromise.
the rane performer beats the rev7 on every way from platters,4 chanels,stems,durabilty,sound etc..my only thing i dont like the rane is the weight..too heavy to carry around
id go for the rev 7 ...i play at a radio and they use a rane and it has too many features and malfunctions ...the rev 7 can remap censor as instrumental
I really like the Rev7 but it failed me in the middle of a gig: right platter started spinning backwards and then forward really fast. It was a nightmare. Went back to my good Ole 1000srt. I now have ptsd from buying new gear. Performer still looks tempting but I have better things to do with $2K lol. Good video as always!
Both controllers are great. Coming from turntables…the Rev7 slightly wins for me due to its smaller weight and size. I got the rev7 for easy transport instead of lugging turntables to some gigs. Also, the buttons are not below the platters that can get in my way. The Rane is nice though, but i’m lazy and getting older. I don’t want to carry heavier gear than what I already have. I would get the Rane if i had extra money to burn.

Another big advantage of the REV7 is that you can distribute 12 effects directly to 2 FX A+B banks - so you have 18 effects with the factory setting (6) available at the touch of a button - this is not possible with the Rane. The smooth echo is also a cool thing with the REV7
Great comparison but there was no mention of screens over pads, or the ATrak fader effects on the Rane. I do think the effects overall sound better on the Pioneer but the possible creative uses of fader effects really makes me consider the Rane.
Build quality is terrible on rev7 why wouldn't u evn mention the Micky mouse plastic on pioneer to the solid Rane bulid , they can't compare not even close
Because it’s an unsubstantiated claim. Metal construction doesn’t automatically make a better controller. I’ve seen plenty of all metal Rane products have issues and I’ve seen some “plastic” ones survive nuclear winter…and vice versa.
As always, great video and comparison. As a videographer/editor and DJ myself, I know lots of work goes into creating this content, appreciate you, Bro! You've stated many times, the perfect gear doesn't exist. I love the new Stem implementation on the Performer, but I prefer my pads in the middle like the Rev 7. Mainly due to my current muscle memory. The infamous 4 channel debate gives Rane the edge IMO. Unless there's a Summer Namm/Expo to skew my opinion! LOL!

I have been playing on the Rane 4 for about three weeks and I absolutely love it. I’m still debating if I can afford to upgrade to the Rane Performer. Cause, of course I learned on turntables. 🤨😕 buy something new and ne model come out before end of the month. I see that hasn’t changed.
This is a good case in point for why competition is good for everyone. It's good for us because we get quality and options. It's good for companies because it inspires them to make a better product. I would argue that it's always been a good time to be a DJ, even in the late 70's when the disco clubs got MKII's with a pitch fader. Love that we don't have a monopoly in this industry being lackadaisical, I obviously realize Pioneer sets the club standard, but because of that fact they can't experiment as much as Denon does, for example, with their CDJs. Win win win for the DJ scene. We are blessed with all these wonderful toys!
@@ClevelandTerry Every review I have seen of the REV7 shows a 'gap' when moving the jogwheel back and forth quickly (scratching), it makes a noise, and has a slightly sloppy feel because of the small gap between the sensors picking up the movement when it changes direction. I have not owned one though, so I am only speaking from the experience of other people's reviews. The rane performer jog wheels do not do this due to the design.

Anyway, the Rane Performer will be outdated when the Performax XZY will be out and another comparison between that and something else. Do we realize the lost brain time in thinking which controller should we get or controller vs 2 CDJ / Denon + mixer or turntables or this or that. And THAT, knowing that we already have a great gear setup and we look for better that does more and sorry but who is going deeply in everything that a Rane Performer propose ? That is too many functions for 90% of DJ’s. When the Rane One came out, I’ve tested and bought it and love it because it’s kinda « back to basics ». Yes, this Rane Performer is dope and for someone that needs to change, because it’s setup doesn’t fit his/her needs, then great. But for the vast majority of us, it’s another big €€. I’ll change, perhaps, when they will make it standalone
Speaking of longevity I ran the NS7 iii since 2015 nothing came close and the Rane 1 was just comparable. I had to buy a Rane 4 because Numark wouldn’t update the drivers to windows 11. I was the first in Michigan to get a Performer now it’s longevity will WAY OUT LIVE that Rev 7. It will be the new standard for other companies to live up to. It turns you into a musical magician. RIP Rev 7. Not knocking you guys that own one, to each his own.
They are two very different controllers and Rane the material is more resistant. The sound card is 32-bit and that of the REV 7 is 24-bit and you can tell the difference. They don't compete between them and Rane Performer is far above all the controllers. Please let me know when you find the STEM-SPLIT in the REV 7.
Great review fam. I still run my ol trusty 4 channel Denon MC7000 and have been wanting moving platters and dedicated stem controls for a while. I almost bought the Hercules T7 when it came out but now, I'm so happy I waited!! The RANE PERFORMER is just what the doctor ordered!!
Two different style controllers but REV 7 is great!!! The smaller profile just kills it for me when traveling. I personally don't need 4 channels and I love the battle mixer feel and where the pads are. Its quicker to navigate Stems with just the kill buttons than additional steps on the Performer. The only thing that kills it with the Performer is being able to have a non proprietary power cord and the bigger jog wheels.
I feel like dj tech is a bit behind. What I want is standalone motorised and the tech to do this was there 5 years ago. Also I tried to get the Rane Performer in the UK on 0% apr credit and was denied twice so I just gave up. Hard saving for that will take me about 15 months, by which time something new will be out I'm sure. Finally, I think rev7 has the huge advantage of working with both Serato and Rekordbox which is important to some people, but ultimately the build quality on the Rane seems better 😀
Can you do a video like you did for the DDJ REV 7 where you access the channel faders? Rumor has it that on the Performer you can access the faders from the top of the controller like you can on the Rane 72 mixer? I'm now hearing from a few Performer users that you cannot access the faders and that they aren't user replaceable?
Great Review. Owned Rane 70, S11 and Rev 7 and nothing sounds as good as the 70... Rane just sounds better. Pioneer still sounds great, just not the Rane...
Love how you said the effects we use lol. Much as I love that pitch down effect on rev 7. I used it when I first got it. And went back to echo out. Out effects barely use. Especially with stems
Great review of both products. Sorry you had to record twice. I do think the Rane should've gotten a higher score than the Rev on Displays, even if it currently can't display logos. The versatility of the Performer should put it above. Also something worth noting is the Performer is going to be the better controller for those using virtual DJ. Especially with Stems.
I was waiting for a unit like the Rane Performer to come out after my NS7ii died, and wasn't happy with getting the Rev7 since it wasn't built natively with stems, so I bought the Inpulse T7, but now that I've been spoiled by an 11lbs controller, it's going to hurt going back up to a 28lbser. I'm hoping they will come up with an upgrade to the Rane One, I really don't think I'll use the stem features on the performer and I just want something that's more compact, lighter and streamlined, like the T7.
Ever think of doing a rewind. See how the Numark NS7iii stacks up against the new ones. I bet it would still do very well. I consider it the one all others are judged against.
What would your take for a 2 channel set up between a REV 7 and a S7 or S11 w/ 2- Rane MK2? Not as portable and no stems on the S7 or S9. What would you go for? I do alot of bar gigs if that helps you out. Thanks Terry!

The echo effects on mic was a good findings as the bpm increase will affect the echo, and never knew Performer got echo also on its mic. 2nd good finding thru ur video.. Its ice on a cake u got there. Hot pad in the middle also a good point, Rev 7 take the cake on it. Previously Rev 7 and Rane One on the ring, but its an honour to Rev 7, when most people compare Rev 7 with the Performer now, little discredit to Rane one actually..haha..anyway..Kudos to this video brotha, its good info. cheers. It's good that you measure the controllers . I really thought the pioneer rev 1 was really small ,until I got the rev 1 it wasn't that bad although still easy to carry around. Moving on to the rane performer ,it's an amazing controller to have .the display screens are bigger and 4 channels. Also dedicated stems buttons

Great review! What is the white skin you have on your Rev 7? Is that 12 inch skins? Would like to get a skin for that middle section for my Rev 7 that is becoming tattered and fading out around the crossfader area in the future.
If all I want is GOOD feeling controller vinyl feel Ia the Rane one is just as good? Or does the performer win, no contest? Like is the feel day amd night?... trying to figure out an easy BBQ party set up, and I have only used 1200s my entire career(Rane 62 mixer since 2013)

So I have the rev7 and the Rane performer… I agree on a lot of the things you said in the video… thanks for making it.. I been using the rane for 3 days and I can’t get past the work flow of the buttons not being Battle style… that’s more of my style but every thing else is great on both controllers… I think I may stick with the rev7
I have the Rane One for the past 3 years. And even on the performer i ear that the music have less energy. I remember going after a dj that uses traktor. We had the same volume peak wise. But the tone of the rane had less energy. Even on this video i can ear it. It’s a weird thing.
As you say it's all about preference and although minor I love that you can browse the library on the jog screens of the Rane. Less looking at the computer screen = better
You can have cues and stems available at the same time on the rane four by holding the hot cue button and hitting the stem button while holding. That will split the pads where cues are on the top 4 pads and stems on the bottom 4. Is that not available anymore? You mentioned you wanted the stem pads available without pressing two things
Whats the difference between 2 and a 4 channel mixer.channel wise.let say if in case the 2 channels or at least of the asigned channels on the rane gone bad,can u asign another channel.where as the rev 7 has only 2.if in case obe gone bad,what do you do.are they replacable.
