Wow! A Ranga Pen with a Kanwrite Nib. Didn't know that combination was once available. Kanwrite makes some good quality nibs. I love the Kanwrite nib that came on their Kanwrite Desire 35 and the Kanwrite Heritage pens. IIRC, Kanwrite is an OEM for some of the American fountain pen vendors.
Ranga still offer eyedropper (/w Kanwrite nib) versions, primarily on their site. If you write them an email that you need something specific made differently you just need to be patient and explain to them that you absolutely know what eyedroppers can (and more often than not WILL) do in terms of burping, leaking etc. Also I believe they offer Kanwrite nibs also on 3in1 pens but only the flex ones. I've got their Ranga Model 3S (slimmer version of Model 3) and I'm so impressed with their quality that I and a colleague of mine are also going to buy again. Also Magna Carta makes #6 Jowo with ebonite feed and Kanwrite nib. I'm planning, when I acquire enough money, to buy their red ebonite #6 jowo housing and feed (which I believe will go gorgeously with my Rose red - black ripple ebonite Ranga) and a Kanwrite #6 ultraflex medium 😅
Are we at a point where pen price is becoming a status thing, as opposed to a purely quality thing... I know there are exceptions, but you make a VERY good point. Great review. I just ordered a pen from Ranga. I’m excited to get it. Ebonite is a pretty soulful material, feels so good. Any of us who started out with vintage pens know the Love and feel of ebonite. Thank you.
I have 2 Rangas, and I chose the eyedropper model with ebonite feed and Kanwrite nib for both, and they both arrived as perfect writers. Starts up every time, perfect flow, never skips ever, nice and wet but not an inconvenient gusher, etc. Ranga offers JoWo units, but I love ebonite feeds so much, and, despite the fact that JoWo nibs are quality and write nicely, I don't need yet another JoWo nib pen. I like the character of the traditional feed and filling mechanism.
Because I'm a serial tinkerer, I replaced one nib with a titanium nib. And here's another great advantage of ebonite: I heat set the feed to the nib, and many of the issues with titanium nibs in wetter feed (flow getting way too wet when any pressure whatsoever is applied, etc.). don't happen. The nib writes wonderfully.
@@WhatIInk I can force it to post, but it's not super secure, so I don't really consider it a true posting pen. I'm fine with it, though, because I don't like to post pens in general because my small hands make almost everything except pocket pens feel too backweighted when I post them.
Thanks for the shoutout. WOW! I may have to get me one of these. I always enjoy your views. Soapbox is a fine place. I also had Iroshizuku inks eat sacs. And some poo poo Noodlers. Thanks.
@@WhatIInk They're a phenomenal deal. Biggest bang for the buck in my collection in terms of pleasure of use for the dollar spent because I have a particular love for ebonite.
Gosh, I have a few very good inexpensive pens, but this Ranga is a revelation. Illuminating review as always. For such a basic, unostentatious pen it seems to write magnificently. Eyedropping it adds to the appeal. And the price is ridiculous. I must try and get one of these. I’m just intrigued no end about the pen.
Very honest review. It will certainly help me in my decision making process of buying a Ranga model 3 pen. Just want to know if you can carry it in a shirt pocket ?
Thank you for great review. Is this eyedrop pen good condition for now? Are you worried about large ink leaks for now? If it can be handled with silicone grease or O-ring, Ranga eyedrop model is not expensive, so I would like to purchase it. Thank you🙏
I looked at their site and they sell both what seems to be this version of the pen a a model 3 where you can chosee a beziolion nibs from fine to flex nibs and they let you choose between jowo, bock, schmidt hard to say where the flex nibs come from.
Just found out that Ranga makes a Model 3A which is fitted with aerometric/squeeze converter from some Hero pens. I just find that hilarious. I'm currently thinking of acquiring a full-ebonite medium sized pen and am considering the Model 3 or Kim ACR Regular. Do you have any experience with Kim ACR?
Keep an eye on eBay. They are currently going for $34 there. Or watch the Ranga Pens Facebook page where they announce "group buy" specials. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F132891160346
