Next video.....How to replace on the car or How to remove steering rack???? Would be good to see if it's accessible to replace bolt for bolt whilst still on the car. Don't necessarily have to replace the belt.

Bought my L494. Just 10 Days of Amazing Driving Experience (5.0 Supercharged) Drove it in Rain water and Boom goes the Steering Assistance. Now I’m staring at replacing the entire steering rack assembly. Do, i need to replace the entire assembly?

Are they steel replacement bolts? If so will they react with the casing? White grease protection perhaps? Cheers 👍🏻🙏🦘

On the evoque, all 5 bolts are replaced on the recall, not just the motor ones, and if you do them one at a time, there’s no risk of the motor and belt coming off

I can definitively say this belt does not work on a 405. It is too long Edit/update: okay so I’m leaving my original comment up because it’s what I thought at the time. My belt broke completely and there was absolutely no steering. You could not move the steering wheel at all. I was able to remove the housing, replace the belt, put everything back together and the belt was chirping horribly like it was jumping the teeth. I initially thought the belt was too long and I wanted to try anything rather than go through the install again. I thought maybe there was a timing issue with the motor and steering rack positioning. So I removed the motor for the housing and with the wheels off the ground turned the steering lock to lock and then centered it. Once I installed the motor again it didn’t jump the belt any more. I’ve driven it about 20 miles so far, but it feels like it’s correct. I hope this helps somebody out there, because I was pretty defeated at the time.

If they do suffer the same as the Evoque then owners of affected vehicles need to be aware that they could lose all steering and not just assistance. On the Evoque the belt gets chewed and binds the motor hence the horrible noises as shown in the clip. The only good thing is that it usually happens when the car is stationary or at low speed. This is why JLR have been forced to recall the Evoques.

Would this work on the tesla model S? I believe 2012 to 2016 tesla model s steering rack and pinion was made by land rover with part number e32-3200-db

Does the belt wear out? I there a way to adjust the tension on the belt?

In December 2023 at -4c after 2 days in below freezing The bolt failed on my Range rover sport 2015 , it showed no sign of corrosion as well. as soon as we turned the ignition we got the noise from the steering wheel , so it failed without any action on our part. The AA Technician said it happens often with these cars, £3000 repair 20% of the value of the car!
