Ranger 22LR Single Shot Rifle
The story goes that these rifles were made by various firearms companies for Eatons in the mid 1900s. I took the barrel off this particular rifle and re-stained the stock. I also cleaned the barrel...probably took me 2hrs to clean! 30 passes with brush and 70+ passes with cotton! I think it could still use more cleaning! This gun is really hard to shoot accurately due to the sub-par sights. That being said, it is still quite fun to shoot!!

I have the same gun . A stevens, Savage armd m-15 version. With Iron sights it shoots a dime sized hole all day long! I absolutely love it!

I've owned a Ranger M36A similar to this one since I was 5 yrs. old. A gift from my grandmother. Mine is slightly different as it is stamped on the barrel instead. In addition, it is stamped: S-L-LR, meaning it will shoot either Short, Long, or Long Rifle .22 rounds. I have shot many, many, many rounds through mine over the years, and I have shot all 3 types of ammo. Concerning the sights: The front blade sight on mine is identical to the one in the video. I didn't get a good look at the rear sight on the video one, but mine has a fine "V" shaped notch in the middle of the ramp sight. The farther you align the thin front blade sight down into the notch, the better your accuracy will be. It's what the old timers called; "Taking a fine sight". Mine still shoots perfectly, in fact it is what we call a "Tack Driver" in my neck of the woods. *Example:* I won a fifty dollar bet from a friend of mine once, who was foolish enough to challenge me. He was frustrated that I consistently outshot him using this gun, and he was shooting a newer .22 rifle that was larger and had a scope mounted to it. He bet me I couldn't hit a Sparrow in the head, now the bird was sitting on a branch, up in a tree, approximately 50 yards away from us. I hit it right in the eye. Now I knew, without any doubt what-so-ever, that I could hit the bird. I was also confident I could hit it in the head, or at least close. Hitting it's eye was, I admit, a lucky shot. But it impressed the hell out of him, and he proceeded to tell anyone and everyone who would listen, about the deed Therefore, I never admitted to him that there was any luck involved at all. ;-) Long story short, there is nothing wrong with the sights on that weapon pardner, you just need to get used to them. Once you do, it will amaze you, and your buddies. Happy plinking. Be safe, and have fun. For the Republic, David AKA: Stronghorse

My dad gave me a rifle just like that one for my eighth birthday back in 1955. I have lost the bolt, which I removed for safety reasons because kids and then left behind when fleeing disastrous relationship. I really want to find a bolt for my rifle. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If you'd be willing to sell your rifle, or know where I could buy a bolt for mine, please let me know.

Thanks. I advertised on the Internet and a fellow in Saskatchewan sent me a bolt. So problem solved. Thanks again.

Good deal! Sometimes parts like that are hard to find without having to buy a whole other gun to use for parts.

Your marital story sounds familiar. In my case I lost the whole rifle. 22 Ranger single shot. I first went hunting with it when I was 13. Never hit a damn thing!

David, any decent gunsmith would be able to make you a new bolt for that .22 rifle...and while at it, have him go over it mechanically ....not much to them anyways, but they are old and it's good to make sure it's all good to go!

I'm planning to get a .22 bolt action or pump action rifle.I think i'm getting it next week.This will be my first real gun,i do have air rifles.

Can you use .22 shorts with it?
@winnipegjohnston

I highly recommend a bolt over a pump for 22 rifle. If I were to have only one .22 rifle, it would be my Savage Mark II. Perhaps look into it as your first firearm.

I had a rossi pump and it shot better than a bolt action. Id go with pump but I did sell my pump and got boltaction.

The ruger 10/22 won't cycle the .22 shorts.

No semi auto shoots shorts. You need high pressure for the bolt action to work. Shorts dont work.
