I myself have faced so many criticism on my dusky skin colour . I am 23 and in my life there has been endless time people pointed out my colour . At one point I myself started hating my colour and applied various harmful chemicals on my skin just to make it fair . But let me tell you I was wrong ,so damm wrong . One day I applied some nailpaint and rushed to my friend's house to show her and I still remember my friend's father said "pairo se raaj raani shakal se naukrani"(I was in class 4th) and not only this one I had like tons of this kind of memories . That is why I kind of started hating myself and did various DIYs , applied harmful chemicals and what not. But now I have realized that I was being too hard on myself like why to hate oneself just for a skin color I mean it is as imp as other characteristics of yours , right ? So if any girl is reading this I just want to say that as long as you like what you see in the mirror . That's enough. You are enough dont ever fall in this trap of fair and dark bla bla. I am really happy now and there is so much in me to offer people than my color .

It's so weird because people within their own cultural circles are more judgmental than to those outside. I feel Jaya was looking at Rani as a Bengali woman judging another Bengali woman. She's even got the same height. Rani and Abhishek would've been like the next gen Amitabh and Jaya... she didn't like that probably LOL 😆 😂

So as someone who was film-fan in that era of 90s and 2000s, never heard Rani being criticize for her skin tone. Kajol was already in industry and not so much into fair skin that it would be percievable. "The beauty"of that Era and the Era before that was that we as audience never knew the actual skin tone of any actress all were made fair and forced to hide their original tone. Take for e.g Rekha or Bhanupriya. 90s kind if became the time of acceptance as the international models like Madhu Sapre ruled the ramp by embracing the bronze, dusky look internationally perceived as the one standard Indian tone. Sushmita Sen who was not as fair as Aishwarya won Miss India and even guys like Milind Soman became huge sensation donning the dark and handsome avatar. R Madhwan in Hindi movies again was in demand. So 90s actually was the time where people started embracing ntue different shades. By late 90s the adds of fair and lovely were talked as a joke though the lack of social media did delay the process of awareness. In early 2000 Bipasha became the first actress to say it outloud that one can be dark and damn hot. Just highlighting what the Era was like as an audience who did not know what's happening behind the camera.

From comment section, I can say that people don't dislike dusky actors on-screen. Skin cream industry just push this theory of fair being beautiful to sell their products.

When I entered in my teens people talk about my big lips and dark skin tone a lot... I got insecure but later I realized that it's me. If I don't accept myself then who will.......models get lips job done but I have those lips naturally..... I'm dark but that is beauty

I have wheatish skin complexion and I have faced a lot of insults in my teen age and also at marriage time I didn't get good life partner due to my skin colour and I didn't get respect from life partner and in laws. I am happy that I am divorced and financially independent . I am highly educated IT Professional working in top MNC. I have very good personality and good face cut. My hair is beautiful but many times in my life I felt insulting due to dark skin colour and it is bad for this society that they judge woman by her skin complexion and not by her education, thinking, skills and overall looks and personality. Being a positive thinker, I would like to advise teen agers and girls to work on their overall looks and personality and not to run blindly behind skin colour. Be confident and be positive in all situations.

In the phrase "Tall, dark, handsome", "dark" is not meant to be "kaala" or "dark-complexion" as we say in India. It is used mostly for Mediterranean men.. i.e. Italian majorly, and they're not "dark" but olive skinned.

I never commented on ur vedios but I have to say this topic took me off guard .. when I was in highschool people made fun off my dusky skin even my friends bitched behind my back ..after that I became depressed. For 3 three years but now after realising that they were just jealous of me cause I was confident that time now realised this and I become so confident in my skin that girl I feel like I just love myself onre and put myself first 💜

You know even today if girl is fair people call her beautiful but if she has dark or dusky complextion people call her 'Smart' not beautiful. I have dusky & my cousin have fair complexion my relatives & other people call her beautiful their literal words are 'don't compare yourself with her you are Smart'. Even in today's era people do think that being fair is called beautiful & being dusky is called smart & not beautiful.
