The reason you didn't encounter Omnath is because you didn't have the correct cards in your deck. You guys keep forgetting that their "rank assistance" kicks in and matches you up with similar typed decks, which is why you tanked the first few games. Then it paired you with decks that had builds and cards that wouldn't over power yours. We all have to deal with this, and I wish they would stop and just let it be random, and if people make a bad deck, well then change it. This hand holding they are doing is honestly annoying and has no place at all in ranked games. If they want an assist on to handhold new players, fine so be it, but keep that in standard and unranked plays and leave our ranked playing alone.
I'd love to know what was going through your mind at a time like that. Across from one of the most surgical best of one players who has to know you have cleave and blocks in a way that gives you lethal. I'd probably have still done the same as you but I'm sure some part of your brain had to be screaming "we're being set up here!!!". Unlucky though! edit - I honestly feel being CGB right there gave him a disadvantage as against some rando you'd be more inclined to think they f'd up.
@@ShooterSF Well, I had lethal regardless of how he blocked. I did think the robber block was weird but I figured he was just playing as if I didn't have embercleave because it was lethal no matter what and had some other form of dealing with rimrock. I've played against quite a few hallowblade decks and haven't seen Giant Killer in any of those, so I didn't even consider it as a possibility.
As a long-time basic Plains lover, I'm very happy I was able to help put them back on this Standard's map. For what it's worth, on the very next day Slatorade took my exact 75 to a 6-2, Top 32 finish in the CFB Clash mtgazone.com/5-best-performing-off-meta-brews-from-cfb-clash/ and Soonbubu to a 5-0, Top 2 finish in the Standard Challenge magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/mtgo-standings/standard-challenge-2020-10-05#decklists
For real. I thought there was no hope, but CGB keeps putting out cool new decks. Makes me look at the format in a different way. Still doesn't make me want to play though lol
Algorithm tickle time. For me as a new player it's fantastic watching and listening to someone who knows what they're doing (usually 😄) narrate their way through the games, explaining the decision making process. Thank you for all the videos 🥰
Leaving a comment for the algorithm boost :) Saw that deck first over at Hello Good Game, thought it wasn't worth the watch there after the first few minutes - but you definitely made it worth it. So happy to have subscribed, your videos are a daily source of joy. Thank you, and keep up the great work!
I've been playing some mono-white recently, so this was a timely video for me. I *always* watch till the end! I hope you can make it to 100k by the end of this year!
Another awesome video. I used mono-white last season to reach a peak of diamond 3, but I couldn't quite make it beyond. I'll be using this and the Rakdos to make the climb. Keep it real, CGB!
As a fan of Monowhite I'm so in love with this deck. I played 50 games in BO1 the last couple of days with almost the same deck (played 2 archons, 2 legion angels and 2 shepards). 70% winrate in Plat and then Diamond. Also beat Omnath more often then I lost against it (with Giant Killer/ Apparition / Archon). I think the BO3 deck also was built to specifically beat Omnath, as it has so many ways to remove it or make it inefficient. And it's still solid against rogues with the fliers, maul and protection/indestructable of your cheap creatures.
I'll leave a comment this one time to help your algorithm. I usually watch your videos in the mornings with my breakfast at the home office, and yes I always to the end. Thanks for calling me a kid, not often that happened anymore(I'm a year older than you 😉). Keep up the good work
Aye bud been watching your channel since Mogwai was playing, just letting you know im proud af of how much you've grown! Congrats on 88k, You'll make it to 100, watched the vid all the way through, and hope you have a good night no matter how things are feeling
Man, I've been picking up a few things regarding card interaction while watching these vids, like shocking a returning Archfiend Vessel to deny the 5/5, but that Skyclave Apparition bounce was probably the coolest so far.
Love seeing something that isn't blue control! Stayed until the end... just got my 4 booster boxes of common/uncommons for Zendikar Rising in that I was sorting through while watching :)
Is it impossible to find a way to add Lurrus to this deck? I see a lot of powerful 1 and 2 drops that might find it nice to get second chances in the game. (And Lurrus plus Maul is an imitation of Baneslayer of sorts, would give monored fits)
Thanks cgb I love the deck ideal. I’ve out agro mono red and it feels great. I took out hallow blade and put in basri lieutenant. Also I took out 2 hammers for sentinel's eyes against mill and rogues.
You know i can see lurrus being decent here to get back some of those juicy 2 drops later in the game. For example you can resummon giant killer and then bring it back to your hand with Shepard and kill something with more then 4 mana.
I liked it. Interesting way to play low-to-the-ground aggro, a lot more fun than life gain. As for wildcards, I bet Maul of the Skyclaves is going to keep being useful in these kinds of decks for the next few sets.
Monowhite is actually one of the hardest archetypes to play, so it might seem that the deck is weak, but tournament results don't lie. The Maul of Skyclaves is basically a better Demonic Embrace, and white had very powerful tools to go with it. Angel is also pretty great, I think you should probably play 2 in mainboard, since it almost never comes down to playing all 4 of them, and the card is genuinely good.
I'm only eleven minutes in, and I've had the exact same reactions as CGB, at the same time, nearly word for word for the entire video. I think I've been watching him too much... XD
@@covertgoblue Your comment just made my day! :) Thanks for making content that makes people happy! Keep it up! P.S --I stayed to the end! Cool kids club!
Hooooooly shit cgb I have been trying to make mono-white aggro work for weeks now and this is exactly what I needed to be honest. Thanks so much for this. Nice to see that you agree shepherd of the flock works!
I think another use of the Archon is to even the playing field against opponent card advantage. In the game you discard it to seasoned hallowblade, had you kept it you could have played it at a point where you have no cards and the opponent has 5 cards in hand. You're limited to one cast per turn, but limit of one cast per turn isnt much of a limit when you only draw one card a turn since you have no draw spells. Not saying it's the right play, but it's a consideration about that card.
Now that I've been reminded that apparition functions in a similar way to fiend hunter, I'm tempted to find other ways of breaking it such as with village rites to draw cards. I need other instant speed sacrifice effects for creatures now.
Reads title "RANK UP with MONO WHITE AGGRO" Followed by "And i'm going to tell you straight up I've not won a game with this deck yet!" Obviously its in the first min of the video, I just thought it was funny :)
Every once in a while I get the creeps when you make predictions like at 27:16 I mean, yeah you are predicting much but this one is clutch. btw very very nice deck. I'm not a friend of mono W aggro either but this particular build looks boss
The name of the card is Totally Lost, it's an instant for 4U putting a creature on top of its owners library. The artwork references Fblthp being lost in Ravnica. It is used as a placeholder whenever a card art isn't available on Arena for whatever reason, probably because of the name. So what you saw was a small recurring Arena bug.
I stayed to the end. I play a white deck that has some control in my free to play account that has a 70% win rate in "play" so I was curious to see how this deck did. My deck has beaten Omnath but also gotten obliterated by it. Nice Video CGB!
Champion bro, also can we have an update on the pupo? Also been a while since you told us what consecutive video number your up to? Also my 6 year old daughter comes running into my games room when she hears your vids starting and sings the mono red song! She also made up her own mono songs for the other colors. Keep up the good work mate.
I played this deck the last few days. First, I won a lot of games (especially against some Rakdos discard decks with Kroxa, and also in some cases against Omnath when you are very fast and on the play). It is good against mono red and is able to work well against some Dimir Control decks if they try to exile your creatures and you use your Shepard to send them back to your hand. However, I think that in some situations against tournament Rogues decks it's terrible at the moment. Zareth destroys you if you don't have Giant killer in your hand and the Apparition is in your graveyard. I can't recommend it for the current meta. That's at least my experience until now.
PS: I now see that CGB lost his game exactly in the same way as I lost it two times in a row against Rogues (see above)... It's very difficult to win against Rogues and I see Rogues decks everywhere...
At 15:15 you talk about bouncing banishing light with the trigger on the stack and say that you can't make that play, but correct me if I'm wrong, I'm almost certain that play can be made since the ETB trigger on banishing light hasn't resolved yet so it so the card you exile with it will remain exiled for all of eternity.
No, the way Banishing Light is worded makes it so that you can't flicker/bounce it in response since it's all in the same instance. Oblivion Ring and Skyclave however, have two separate instances on them. When they ETB you exile one of their cards. When they leave the other effect happens. This gives you timing to flicker/bounce the card with the trigger on the stack to permanently exile a card they own, return nothing, and then exile something else.
@Luke Steiner actually the way it would play out with Banishing Light is that the card wouldn't be exiled at all, since Banishing Light has already left the battlefield.
