@Qasim Hussain Out of all henchmen in the Bond movies I've seen. (In my own personal opinion of course) His laugh was contagious whenever he was crushing things with his metal claw or feeding people to the crocodiles. I could relate to his quirky sense of humor !
I’d have put Tee-Hee 3rd. For me it’s Odd Job (1st), Jaws, Tee-Hee, Mr Winn & Mr Kidd, Red Grant. I don’t think of Red Grant as a henchman though because he’s far more independent. He’s more a secondary villain. So maybe Fiona Volpe #5.
Except that Wint and Kidd were the most extreme examples of the common downfall of Bond villains, one which the Austin Powers movies have touched on a couple of times: the need to find a fancy way of killing Bond instead of just shooting him. Not once but twice during the movie they've got Bond unconscious at their feet and in a setting of complete privacy. Both times, Bond escapes because they've apparently never heard of these things called bullets.
Necros gets my vote for most underrated henchman of the series. People always write him off as a Red Grant clone but he's a master of disguise, he has some of the most unique kills/weapons of any villain (exploding milk bottles, headphones strangulation, killer sliding door, etc), and he has multiple intense fight scenes. He's smart, tough, and really the most capable villain in his movie. Stamper is the generic clone everyone groups him in with but Necros is awesome and unique
I always think there's a little hint that he might be brainwashed too - that track he's always got on on his walkman - is that how they 'activate' him?
I have a feeling he ( the guy who played him ) also played the very first guy John McClane fought in the very first Die Hard. The guy who had his neck broken as they tumbled down the stairs and was Karl's brother.
IMHO Benicio as Dario is the best, he's very realistic, yet totally psycho. Love his performance, and it's totally justified that it starts his great career.
He is very realistic and definitely a sadistic psychopath and enjoys killing for Sanchez and can Dario is Sanchez’s favorite and most trusted of his men.
I also like his impersonation of Capt. Nash, capturing all of the British idiosyncrasies he deeply despises. His abrupt change from unctuous Nash to deadly Grant is nothing short of chilling.
@@jonvietor2601 Yeah I know. But he looks like two completely different people. I guess there was also a drastic fashion and style change from 60s to the 70s which makes a difference.
Good list but I think Grant should have been #1. He's basically playing Bond throughout the movie, making sure Bond is doing exactly what SPECTRE's wants. And as you mentioned, that fight scene is one of the very best in the series.
Great list. I would've switched Xenia and Oddjob...Oddjob was so loyal to Goldfinger, he was willing to stop Bond from stopping an atomic bomb from going off at ground zero...now THAT'S dedication, my friend.
That might be an unusual one, but one of, if not my favorite has to be Baron Samedi. The guy is AWESOME, such a scene stealer. Plus, he gets an ambiguous and mystical ending, that final shot in Live and Let Die is great.
I like Necros too! The milk bottle grenades are pretty inventive. I also like his look. Stamper on the other hand, meh, bit bland. Although it took me untill this year to notice he has two different colored eyes!
@@DutchBondFan One of my favorite scenes in The Living Daylights is the fight between Necros and the MI6 agent (played, I believe, by stuntman Paul Weston) in the kitchen of the safehouse. It was very intense and in my opinion the best fight scene in the series that Bond is not involved in.
Nice to see Fatima Blush, especially since we don't immediatly think about her when we talk about henchmen. I was like "Damn, he's right, she's amazing! Why didn't I think about her before ?"
It is sad that you forget to mention that Jaws killed shark with his teeth in Spy who loved me - one of the most memorable moments in the series for me ^^
He didn't really do anything other than laugh, give Bond's location once, laugh again, have a 10 second fight where he was instantly beaten, and laugh again on top of a train. Samedi was cool in the N64 Video game but in the movie it was Tee Hee who really took the spotlight.
Hakim Fullerton And period, not only the twins but also Gobinda and the Yo-yo spin saw assassins! Octopussy easily has the deadliest henchmen in the seriesn
12:30: I have to disagree. Jaws having a girlfriend was integral to the plot. Without her (and her supposed imperfections) Jaws would never have turned against his master.
The funny thing about Jaws... Before playing the killer in Bond movies, he appeared in 1976 movie "Silver streak" - a nice comedy with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. Richard Kiel played... a henchman with the steel jaws.
Exactly. They took his character from Silver Streak, enlarged the teeth a bit ands made him impossible to kill. But the first hero to face him was Gene Wilder as George Caldwell.
What is interesting is which one of these henchmen could be interchangeable throughout the different Bond eras and which ones would be out of place. For example, a Dario or a Grant could work in any Bond era yet if Nick Nack, Jaws or Oddjob showed up in a Dalton or Craig Bond movie it wouldn't work. Fatima blush/Fiona Volpe could work in any Bond movie..yet Xenia Onatopp or May Day would be ridiculous in a Dalton or Craig Bond movie. Although there were never female henchmen/henchwomen in any Dalton or Craig movie (I'm sure there would've been one in a Lazenby movie if had did a few more Bond movies).
And yet, on the dance floor when Bond says, "I've grown accustomed to your face", her smile says that she still finds him quite charming. Very close to , "....repenting and turning back to the side of right and virtue".

super analysis!!!! Xenia is my favourite, femme fatale on steroids !!!! when the henchmen die by something equal to their main characteristic is always amazing too!!!
1. Necros. The Milkman Operation is a masterpiece and one of the best action scenes in the entire series. Probably John Barry’s favorite too, because he is the only henchman who gets his own background music. I so wish that he survives, comes back in GE, and replaces that disgusting General Ourumov. 2. Fiona Volpe 3. Red Grant 4. Xenia Onatopp. She should be General Orlov's daughter. 5. Jaws 6. Magda 7. Zao 8. Mischka and Grischka 9. Gobinda 10. Vargas. It’s a shame that this character is underdeveloped and died too early and too easily. Honorable mention 1: Erich and Apostis in FYEO. So little screen time. Such good looks wasted. Honorable mention 2: The granny gatekeeper in GF. It just occurred to me that Roger Moore got the most interesting villain & henchmen ensemble in terms of variety, appearance, personality, and skill set. And Daniel Craig got the most boring ones, although I began to like Green and Elvis more over time.
1) Xenia Onatopp (Goldeneye) - quite simply the ultimate Femme Fatale, not only within the 007 series, but in all of cinema, as far as I’m concerned 2) Red Grant (From Russia with Love) - he could have been just a big, blonde muscular heavy, yet Robert Shaw brings so much personality to his character 3) Jaws (TSWLM/Moonraker) : duh ! 4) Mayday (A View to a Kill) : such a magnetic presence on screen, and her exit is awesome 5) Fiona Volpe (Thunderball) : not only the series’ first femme fatale, but also the quintessential 60s sex-symbol, IMO 6) Tee-Hee (Live and Let Die) : again, he’s not « just a quirk », Tee-Hee is also funny and more intellectual than we give him credit for 7) Odd Job : double « duh »! 8) Professor Dent (Dr No) : I really like how realistic and down to earth he is, far from the outlandish turn taken by the franchise from Goldfinger onwards 9) Necros (The Living Daylights) : those bottles of milk, man ! 10) Mr Wint and Mr Kidd (Diamonds are forever) : so campy yet menacing HM : Gobinda (Octopussy) : badass to the end DM : Hans (You only live twice) : zero personality, just muscles
Elvis is the most brilliant Henchman of them all. Everyone who sees him forgets him immadiately. What an enviable quality for a villains right hand man.
My personal top 10 10. Primo - No Time to Die 9. Zao - Die Another Day 8. Mr. Hinx - Spectre 7. Dario - Licence to Kill 6. Red Grant - From Russia With Love 5. Tee Hee Johnson - Live and Let Die 4. May Day - A View to a Kill 3. Jaws - The Spy Who Loved Me 2. Mr. Wint & Mr. Kidd - Diamonds Are Forever 1. Oddjob - Goldfinger Honorable mentions: Fiona Volpe - Thunderball Emile Locque - For Your Eyes Only Irma Bunt - On Her Majesty's Secret Service Nick Nack - The Man with the Golden Gun Baron Samedi - Live and Let Die Gobinda - Octopussy Necros - The Living Daylights
Great list Odd Job is my no. 1...he even had his own commercial after Goldfinger...and the actor won a silver medal in Olympic weightlifting. He didn't just "play" a strong man. BTW, props for giving Dario his due; he was awesome. Note; I have Mr. Witt and Mr. Kidd on my list, as a duo.
I learned that Harold Sakata was so strong that even when he just pretended to strike Sean Connery, essentially just "marking" the hit, when Connery looks like he is in pain, he didn't need to act.
Agree with Xena - For me Jaws would contest the top spot with her based on his impact in the first film alone. I would certainly would have Red Grant higher for convincingly pulling off a 'normal' henchman To round out my Top 5 I would naturally have to include the classic Odd Job and I can go with Mr Hinx as a bit of a wildcard - his train fight was by far the best scene in what for me was unfortunately an otherwise disappointing movie.
My favorite henchman is Red Grant played by the late Robert Shaw in From Russia With Love my second favorite would Jaws particularly in The Spy Who Loved Me more so then in Moonraker. The late Richard Kiel was more comic relief but when killed off contacts he was menacing and liked the train fight with him and Roger Moore’s Bond. Some of my other favorites would be Necros in The Living Daylights and Dario in Licence To Kill. Oddjob was a memorable henchmen as was Tee Hee in Live and Let Die. Xenia in Goldeneye which is one of my favorite Bond films of all time.
i would rank the henchman like this 10 - Dario, 9 - Fiona Vulpe, 8- Gobinda, 7- Nick nack, 6- Mr Wint and Kidd, 5- Baron Samedi, 4- May Day, 3- Odd Job, 2- Jaws and Teehee as 1
"Elvis" in Quantum of Silence, reminded me of a Jack Handy quote. "Some people are like slinkies. They serve no real purpose, but it is amusing to watch them fall down a row of stairs."
Love the video! I think Fatima blush goes a little to overboard for me in a similar way that moonraker just goes to far into the unbelievable. You can laugh and enjoy it, but it’s hard to feel menace and threat when the movie is a comedy. Whint and Kidd I think are extremely memorable but they might be disqualified since they are a couple and not a single henchmen?
For once, I have to agree with every choice on your list! Fun fact: Richard Kiel (JAWS) appeared in THE MAN FROM UNCLE, THE WILD WILD WEST (as Michael Dunn's henchman!), and, THE MONKEES (in a parody of "Frankenstein"). Something that kinda baffles me: when Ian Fleming wrote his novelization of the unfilmed "Thunderball", he really tightened it up and created what I feel is by far the best version of the story. Except... there was NO Fatima (her original name) or Fiona! I can't imagine doing a version of the story without her. In the novel "Goldfinger", Oddjob was sucked out of the plane window, while Goldfinger went down when the plane crashed. Gee... just like in 1983's "OCTOPUSSY". (heh) For more of Luciana Paluzzi, see one of my favorite Japanese sci-fi monster films... "THE GREEN SLIME". Dario just reeked "CRAZY". It's a good thing Bond was in the drug factory when he was confronted, I think he might have had real trouble trying to convince that guy that he was on Sanchez' side.
Very good list bro. For me Oddjob and Jaws is top 2. But I agree that Xenia is in the top of the henchmen / woman too. Fatima Blush is also a really good character and def the best part of Never Say Never Again. But I miss Necros from the list. He is a great henchman.
I would have ranked Red Grant (Robert Shaw) and Jaws (Richard Kiel) higher on my list and added Necros from The Living Daylights who was more a threat to Bond compared to the main villains Whitaker and Kosov. Xenia was another good hench woman in Goldeneye.
Xenia on the top as i would expect. Surprised in Mr. Hinks actually, he was a nothing to me. Nice to see Nick Knack get some love, and I would have put Tee Hee somewhere in the 10. Notable exclusion are Mr. Kidd and Mr. Wynt, whose segments in Diamonds I really enjoyed.
Donald Grant in “From Russia With Love” - a genuinely chilling presence and a physical threat to Bond! Fatima Blush in “Never Say Never Again” - an assassin who loves her work.
Think there should be a character in the Austin Powers movies called... Big Blonde Burly Henchman, who is always destined to fall into a pool of piranha fish towards the end, my Dad thinks they're all the same character, which is funny, bless, I had to explain it to him that all of these characters die, usually very horrible deaths and Bond henchmen don't usually come back as zombies!
Another great list, but although I can't understand why you would pick Xenia for your number one Bond henchman, for sentimental reasons I would have picked either Oddjob or Red Grant. As for Jaws, I totally agree with you about the differences in the way the character was portrayed in the two movies he was in. In TSWLM, he was a lot more menacing. In Moonraker, he was more like Wiley E. Coyote in the Warner Bros. Roadrunner cartoons ( with Bond being the Roadrunner, of course). Fun fact: The actor who played Oddjob, Harold Sakata, won an Olympic Bronze Medal in Weightlifting.
Maria Kelly Hahaha Wall E Coyote! 😂 Thats priceless. Wish I called him that in the Moonraker recap. The falling of the waterfall only needed a "help" sign followed by the cartoony slide whistle when he falls down the waterfall!
@@DutchBondFan Good one! BTW, in Goldfinger, Moonraker, and Die Another Day, there are a lot of Korean villians and/or henchmen (although Harold Sakata was a Japanese-American from Hawaii). What is it with Koreans and Bond? Another fun fact: Do you remember when the ruler of North Korea, Kim Jung Un had his people hack into the Sony Pictures computers a few years ago? Well, rumor has it that he's a huge Bond fan and he wanted to see the details about Spectre, which EON and SONY were trying to keep secret.
I remember people complaining about playing Oddjob in Goldeneye because he was shorter and harder to hit, but it would have been insane if you could play as Nick Nack
This is my personal ranking of henchpeople: 1) Fatima Blush (Never Say Never Again) 2) Dario (Licence to Kill) 3) Jaws (The Spy Who Love Me and Moonraker) 4) Xenia (Goldeneye) 5) Irma Bunt (OHMSS) 6) Mr. Hinx (Spectre) 7) Red Grant (From Russia With Love) 8) Necros (The Living Daylights) 9) Stamper (Tomorrow Never Dies) 10) May Day (A View to a Kill) And LOL, no one remembers Elvis. Not even me. XD And personally, I really feel Luciana Paluzzi should have been Domino. I mean, I know people like her performance and all, and she does look good, but I just don't get a sense of menace out of her, whereas with Barbara Carrera and even Famke Janssen I actually did get a sense of menace out of them, whereas I just never got any menace out of Fiona Volpe.
Lotte Lenya was an Aunt on my Mother's side. I never met her but when I saw FRWL I wrote her a letter asking WHY my Aunt was on the screen trying to KILL James Bond ? She read the letter & called us from New York and told me she laughed for 10 minutes when she read the letter. We had a nice talk on the phone after she talked to my Mother and I wish I had met her in person. I was 10 when I saw FRWL.
emilio tordesillas Its always a Top 10, so every episode are bound to miss some good ones. I always try to come up with my 10 favorites. Thats all I can do really. I'd say Gobinda, Irma Bunt, Necros, the Knive throwing twins, Helga Brandt are all a couple of henchmen that missed out but do like
The henchmen are probably the most colourful and vibrant aspect of the James Bond franchise. They are so fun and distinct and provide a nice dynamic to the movies *ahem elvis😕* My Top 10 favourite henchmen 10. Gobinda 9. Arkady Ouromov 8. Tee Hee 7. Fiona Volpe 6. Mr Hinx 5. May Day 4. Oddjob 3. Donald 'Red' Grant 2. Jaws 1. Xenia Onattop Honorable Mentions: Baron Samedi, Nick Nack, Necros, Erich Kriegler, Dario, Emile Leopold Locque, Irma Bunt, Mr Wint and Mr Kidd Dishonorable Mentions: Stamper, Vargas, Kutz, Zhao Worst Henchmen: Elvis
I always wondered that Gupta in Tomorrow Never Dies had good potential, it was a funny nod to Roger Moore era, when henchmen had goofy but deadly abilities. I mean, the guy was throwing cards in the initial script.
I had a girlfriend in New York who, knowing my love for Bond films, would sometimes tease me at appropriate times by whispering to me, "Do you like wild things, mister BondJamesBond?"
