That 6/10 on Steam has three very simple answers. Their names are Alatreon, Fatalis and the MH movie. Game got review bombed hard when both Alatreon and Fatalis came out, then it got review bombed hard AGAIN because of some crappy joke in the MH movie.
Alatreon and Fatalis are understandable, they are by far the some of hardest bosses ever in the boss fight video game genre. They are absolutely brutal, only the best of the best players can beat them and earned their armor and weapons, I am one of them. These bosses also split the community into two, one side say the game is finally fun to play, the others are upset that the game severely punish safe and casual play. The knee how joke was cringe and pretty bad, but is just stupid to review bomb a game that Capcom had no control over.

@@mangoruby1357 Alatreon has an artificial difficulty in the form of an elemental DPS check that many thought was unfair at first when matched with his brutal moveset and I used to be one but now that I know how to fight him, the artificial difficulty definitely sucks but is still fair enough to beat for any competent hunter. Fatalis is just hard as hell with a big, brutal, very hard hitting moveset and the highest health pool in the game with a couple scripted attacks. His fight is extremely difficult and takes true skill to beat with the shortened time limit but that's all it takes is skill. Very good, extremely tough but fair fight with the most broken armor set possibly in the series history as your reward along with the strongest raw damage weapons in the game
My wife, best friend, and I used to play Monster Hunter on psp all day every day. We'd go to McDonalds for the wifi to download the Japanese event quests so we could get the special stuff like Jolly Rodger armor. Lol
For those wondering about the 6/10 on steam, allow me to elaborate. While some say optimization issues, that was a small percentage of the TRUE review bombs that came way later in the games life. When Alatreon dropped, that was the first. People constantly complained about how hard it was, and whined they could ONLY use elemental weapons. Fatalis came out, people found ways to complain. But then…the monster Hunter movie collab. People review bombed THAT because of some stupid joke in the movie that people deemed racist or something. In the end, Fatalis, Alatreon, and the movie were the biggest review bombs the game had ever seen. But, those are salty fans who thought the game was still gonna be EASY and who tried connecting a damn movie to a game. It’s a 10/10 for me
the movie was probably closer related to Teppen, capcoms card game. The ancient civilization like in Teppen vould have been megaman and the reploids, pretty sure i saw Ada Wong at the end in her cloak like she was in Teppen before her big reveal. And uh yea.....Land of Illusion connecting worlds together.
@@positvechao probably for a time, but the biggest reasons were Alatreon and The Movie. It’s the sad thing that when people genuinely get pissed they take it out on the game when it’s either a skill issue or has nothing to do with the game
i would still rate 4U as my all time favorite, it has content, new weapon and monster variety, good gameplay that is not slow like in 2nd gen but not as fast as rise, and a nice difficulty curve. my biggest complain about rise is the difficulty and the lack of content ( especially compared to world and 4U that were update for month). i played with the same group of friend since Freedom and we will usually play each entry for a few years ( we basically played 4U from 2014 to 2019) but with rise, the game was so easy we just blasted throught the content killing most monster sub 5 and we had to wait 2 month for the final elder dragon to be added and so having a more standard experience and we just totally forget about the game after that. i absolutely hated generation for the same reason, the game was too easy and we kill the final boss in 40h total play time. and GU had such content bloat that is was impossible for me and my friend to unjoy it, ( i mean when you have 7 page of quest for a single village rank its too much) we tried multiple time over 5 years since we started on XX but it would always bored us to death and none of us has the patience to grind to Grank especially when 90% of the content is monster that we had already killed 100th of time in gen 1 to 4. if i had to to a top 3 it would be : MHWI and Portable3rd tied as 3rd and 2nd (order constantly change depending on my mood but P3rd is still my confort MH to this day, they really need to bring back the invasion tho, remember after you kill the village bulldrome and then a freaking Jinouga invade you and you can try to kill it) and of course like many MH4U as First.
I think the reason why iceborne is so low because on PC optimization was BAAAAAD. Like that was like the most major complaint I saw in the Review forums. There might have been other factors but I heard for people who got it. It screwed up their games when it first launch.
Agree 100%. I have to play on mostly low settings where the monsters and environments all look like abstract art AND use the FPS boosting mod just to get a solid 50 FPS. (That and some of the options like the fog option and the antialiasing make the game look and run like cancer.)
I absolutely love Iceborne but looking back the clutch claw did significantly hinder many people’s enjoyment of the gameplay. I didn’t hate the clutch claw at first, but after 800 hours it really started to feel extremely tedious and I’m not a fan of it
Iceborne had a low rating on Steam because of DRM that caused massive performance issues for people who previously had a smooth gameplay experience. That's why.
So I like Rise, it's got the best gameplay imo out of all the Monster Hunters, however I find it to be the most boring to look at. Aside from the lava caverns it has such a bland color palette. I also find the village not very homey if you know what I mean. It doesn't have that same feeling of cozyness that Moga, Yukumo, and Kokoto had if that makes sense. World I felt had the cozy feeling that I craved, especially in Seliana. The only really big draw backs to it where the clutch claw and the fact that you couldn't pause the game. If I had to pick a favorite though it would be 3U. It checks all the boxes for me. At the time of it's release it had the best gameplay and I was in love with Moga and the new monsters, zones and colors. Especially in the Volcano! I think 3U had the only Volcano zone that I actually liked until rise came out.
Imo barring the first monhun of course it easily has the worst gameplay all the other games give the weapons weight with both their attacks and hits the wirebugs and silkbind skills turn monhun into a hack n slash game which is not what I play monhun for.
Some time ago my brother decided to split a premium PS plus account with a friend if his. And this account came with a lotta games, but most of em weren't so good though. However, some random day I was going through the game library to see if some game got my interest and I saw "Monster Hunter World: Iceborne" And I was like "Hmm, a Monster Hunter game, I'll download it and try it out." When I actually played it I was like "THE HECK I GOT THE BEST MH GAME FOR FREE" and well, it's been some days I've been playing it, I'm so happy!
I think mhw and mhwI are really good (even if I never played it) the only problem I see is that people who start the franchise with world will become toxic to rest to the series and because mhwI had so much content, 8K graphics, and the biggest budget their expectations will be very high for other games (for example) when rise finished its 3.0 update and only started posting event quest people made fools on themselves on Twitter but even if rise had good graphics they didn’t have a big of a budget to continue updating it (however when sunbreak comes out they did say that there will be free title updates so I hope for gore magula and dire mirals to come back)
Most of the toxic people I’ve seen in mh are the people that played in the older gens and constantly try to make mhw seem inferior to their first games
my first entry into the franchise was mh freedom unite on PSP around freshman year. what I love about the series is... no matter how many new installments they come up with... it always releases as a new game with all or many of the old features returning... ever evolving... if mhwi adds water movement and the entire mh monster list it will be the perfect game... I would play it and nothing else forever. this game has made me so many online friends and been such a topic of interest. Edgar if you ever see this post thank you so much for letting me borrow your PSP in 9th grade. quest complete!
MHFU was my favorite game and is still a game i get back regularly. I never had friends that played that game so i did ALL the game alone and fuck that was hard but so rewarding when i finally finished those extremely hard quests
Quite a few hot takes here imo. MHFU and MHP3rd are classics and definitely deserve to be higher up the list being perfect encapsulations of what fundamental MH is. They outshine some of the higher entries easily. Base world for example was very flawed. Some of the QoL was good and long needed but often times it was taken too far and took away from the charm the older games had. The roster was small and weak on top of that, many new monsters were boring, unimaginative recombinations slapped onto the model of an existing monster. Or base Gen aswell, the large roster is cool but it also buries the player in meaningless content that wouldn't reasonably ever be explored to its full extent. Weapon upgrade system was also horrible in that entry.
@@Joemamamatewithjesus I think you meant to write MHTri 🤪 On a serious note: MHFU is the first big game in the franchise and in my opinion defines a lot of what makes up a good MH game.I may be biased because it was my first MH game but it was very, very good for its time. Sure, it lacks a lot of things when compared to the modern entries simply because it is more than 15 years old now. So I can see why one would think it is overrated if you entered the series at a significantly later point in time - but I'd say that's a comparison that lacks the proper perspective.
People are right that some of the 6/10 is from Fatalis, Alatreon, or even the MH movie. I remember the Reddit threads of people complaining about Fatalis being hard and it was insanity to see. But that's not why it's 6/10, not even close. Iceborne had a DISASTEROUS launch on PC. It was corrupting save data, and even if you were still lucky to have your save it was melting your CPU. For PC players, not only did we have to wait 4 extra months to get to play Iceborne but then it was barely playable for the 2-3 months it took them to patch it.
I remember looking at the steam reviews of iceborne and reading that there were some optimization issues and that it would cause the laptop fans to be loud.
MH Tri was the last attempt to build upon what made MH special. With MH dos it wasn't well received, so I theorise that Capcom wanted to give it one more shot now really trying to think stuff through and properly pace the game and build a unique atmosphere. Then people looked at the number of weapons and armour compared to freedom unite and thought "wow, this number is smaller must be bad". The under water combat also split the community somewhat, though I find that it just changed up the weapon matchups. Weapons that didn't usually do great on land often had something going for them underwater and vice versa, so obviously your opinion might vary depending on what you mained. Either way, everything after that is slowly but steadily getting rid of the hunting in an attempt to generate more sales, I'll follow it for a while still but I think it's gonna become too generic for me to really get invested in it soon enough.
the fish monster in frontier is not its own monster, just an event skin of plesioth. it ONLY has a low rank variant and it wasnt even accessible in the final ZZ release. it is not a real monster and should not dictate the game's placement on the list.
Why are you even ranking games you haven’t played or don’t know anything about? When talking about monster hunter online half of the monsters you talk about are from monster hunter frontier which is a completely different game. I also don’t like the mentality of "the old games are clunky and bad and strictly outdone by later ones" which shows you haven’t given them a proper shot… I don’t dislike videos all that often but putting a dislike on this one
You also barely explain your placings, don’t mention progression or anything like it, I feel like you have only played very few of those to their full extent and you don’t show much knowledge of the whole series which leads me to ask : what’s the point?
I can explain why Iceborn has worse reviews than World. Iceborn is much harder than World and some little Timmies don't like difficult games. They want a easy game you can play in an hour and then get bored. They don't want to have a challenge to overcome. They don't want to fight cool elderdragons with an interesting fight that is challenging. They want it easy.
Wait you complained about mh online having a 10 dollar fee wow has been like 15 a month for ever, runescape membership is 12 a month or 100 a year I believe, wizards 101 was like 60 a year, ff 11 was like 12 a month, eve was like 12 a month and 80 a year. So that's not that outrages it's common. I take it you never played those games so aren't used to seeing what they cost to play after you buy some of them

Uhm, I grew up with Monster Hunter Ps2 and played the hell out of Freedom Unite 2, I also prefer Generations and World over the once I grew up with. I wouldn't say the old ones are bad, but I couldn't do another playthrough just because they are too old and don't have the content. Well I thought about doing a nostalgic playthrough on the first game tho.
I agree with iceborne being number 1, but now that sunbreak is out I'd put 1. MHW Iceborne 2 MH Rise Sunbreak 3. MH Generations Ultimate as my top 3 favorites
not yet in g rank in mhgu but at the rate its going, its sure to pass up mhw:I. even if ONLY for there being more monster types/sekeltons. iceborne fellt less like monster(as a broad idea), and more like lizard hunter, hell even zinoge is reptilian. with gu already having gammoth(huge W) leviathans, insects(forgot name) frogs (also forgor) and more to come i imagine
there isn't an order, just play whatever is in your system, if you have a psp play FU/2G or p3rd they are both great games, if you have a 3ds e strongly recomend 4U/4G, it's wonderful game that people still play to this day, and also 3G/3U and Generation and XX but there aren't many players active in XX and 3G dosen't support online play but they are great games as well, you got the ideia, each game bring something new like weapon or mechanics, so is up to you which one you start with.
I honestly don't know what it is about monster Hunter Rise but I just genuinely don't find it to be that good, I still have fun going back and playing Freedom Unite on my PSP but trying to get through Rise again on PC before the Release of Sunbreak just feels like a slog. My top 3 have to be Iceborne, Freedom Unity and 4 Ultimate
For me mh world is by far the worst mh game i’ve player. Great visuals etc. , but gameplay is completely trash, no build variety, unfair fights, same mh repetead with same mechanics, ranking it first is such an insult to the mh franchise for me.
Tbh I think MHW:IB deserves the 6/10 as a MH game. Clutch claw, guiding lands, alatreon and fatalis...so many flawed and mechanically obtuse things were implemented, MHW feels like an MMO themed after MH than a MH.
@@gamexnations5686 It was not an mmorpg, but a game that used the mmo formula for updates and monthly fee system, the game was fully playable solo (but raviente ques), it had less mandatory multiplayer quest than world. Korean server was totaly free, but died quickly. It was not different from the traditional games, it was even closer to monster hunter than rise or world, it was like a very well improved version of mhfu, and it had by far the best gameplay of the whole serie. The skill system was the same as pre-world, but with way more skill to work with. No 100+ players hunts, all hunts was like mainline with 4 player max, raviente quest could take up to 32 player but i was kinda like safi'jiva from world, still 4 player on the field and not more. Also the fish monster is an april fool/colaboration quest. Taikun and Akura originate from frontier, not online.

It actually might seem a quite of a crybaby statement, but every monster hunter game with no bloated values and just true damage value, have been pretty lackluster and maybe even unplayable for me. I grew up playing monster hunter tri and 3 ultimate and spend an absurd amount of time in both games, therefore leading to my preference of bloated numbers. Having these bloated numbers removed without a setting to toggle these on again, makes monster hunter games pretty boring and unfulfilling to me as i always feel like i'm making little no to progress with the weapons only going up 10 damage or even less with an upgrade. Having these different numbers although maybe confusing for many people makes meeting new monster exiting to me, as i feel like i'm going a huge step forward with each monster encountered. Although mh rise wasn't a good game for me even if it had bloated values, i really think i would've enjoyed Monster hunter xx ultimate and spend a really long time in this game aswell. Although i played 80+ hours i really didn't enjoy many things in this game, except the maps cuf of it. I would love to play such a game with bloated values. Just my take though i know that the vast majority of monste rhunter fans dislike bloated values and prefere true damage values, but just having the setting to chose for yourself would make many monster hunter games better for me. probably skipping sunbreak cuz of this sadly.
