The problem I have with Dwayne is that you can go literally the entire game without ever calling him on the phone. I barely even considered him to be a suspect cause I talked to him like once in his office and literally didn’t even know I can call him on my first play through. Nearly forgot he existed till he was revealed as a culprit at the end. I think the game shouldn’t be possible to beat without regularly calling Dwayne on the phone. Like don’t get me wrong he’s an amazing character when you call him and keep him in his mind but I just think this is a huge issue in the game.
Also, it hit me while watching this that they TOTALLY could've done Sonny's actual appearance finally in the games like they did Samantha Quick's and it would've ben soooo much better! WHY did they not do that??? :'( Now I will be bemoaning this the rest of the day....
I've just discovered your channel, absolutely love your content. This video was so entertaining and such a fun idea! It's so unique to a franchise that people can have such varied opinions on games and characters but we all still love them all!
Also, I'm probably the only person on the planet who feels this way, but SWEET BABY TAY (Taylor Sinclair) is iconic!! lol "I'm sick! Sick! Sick about the whole thing! ... Want a cookie?" "Who were you expecting, the tooth fairy?" (wtf lol) "Looks like somebody forgot her beauty cream." (Plus all of Henrik's hilarious regaling of his misadventures with Taylor in the journal)
Oh my gosh, Ralph!! NO! I love Ralph Guardino!! Unfortunately I would put him in "Boring and One Note," because he doesn't have much going on, but I still love him!
Love this! I agree with most of these picks! Yeah it always annoyed me that Helena Berg, Guadalupe Camilo, and Ralph Guardino weren’t included in this Tier Maker and yet the animals were?? 😭😭 Fun idea (though you’re probably drowning in cool ideas at this point) but maybe for Halloween you can have a Top Ten Creepiest Nancy Drew Characters, or pick the creepiest character from each game? Idk would be cool either way. :3
I think Jane Willoughby should be memorable or even iconic. She is so weird and funky and makes the player suspicious and irritated, all for one very good reason as it turns out! Besides, who can help quoting “Alrighty-dighty” and “Don’t take any wooden nickels!” Ethel isn’t so much of a character imo as just a piece of the manor and game atmosphere. She gives you good jump scares but she is one note and has no story or development throughout the game.
Most of these are good, but a few arguments: Beech is not only bad, he makes Nancy look bad. (To squeeze him in, they had to make Nancy too stupid to ask for ID before she believed a guy was a cop). Where's Ralph Guardino? Sure, he's forgettable, but that doesn't mean you should forget to rate him Forgettable. Jamilla is BAD. She only exists to shoehorn that stupid Alien subplot into a game it didn't belong in (not that it belonged in ANY of them. Wish I knew who at Her was into that stuff). Ryan is Boring and Forgettable to me. All she has is the Gummi Bears joke. Dave Gregory is Boring and Forgettable, and the least important character to that plot. I mean I get that he's a pinup boy for some people, but that doesn't make him a good *character*. Quigley, on the other hand, I like. Not just her Fran Drescher voice, but seeing her behind the scenes thoughts. (Oh boy! Free Labor!) And something about her always having to literally drop out of a tree to talk to you is funny. Joy Trent, Boring and Forgettable, if not Bad. She's wetter than the Orca, and her story (that her father created a SENTIENT robot to jog her memories, but she never bothered trying to solve any of the clues he left for her because she's so totally wet) is completely ridiculous. On that note, Miles... I kind of consider him Good but Forgettable. Yeah, he's an archetypal wisecracking robot, and in a science fiction story he might fit in well. But this isn't a science fiction story, so he seems awkwardly out of place. I don't think Yanni is that Bad, but don't care enough about him to really argue it. Boring and Forgettable to me, but Bad if you really insist. Maya Nguyen is a McGuffin, not a character. Tony Scallari I thought was interesting as an unofficial villain. Overtly nice (owner of an ice cream parlour is pretty nice), but actually a secret backstabber. Brenda Carlton strikes me as at least unintentionally funny as the Power Hungry Small Town News Reporter. (Today River Heights. Tomorrow Red Boiling Springs!) She should be at least one ranking higher. Sonny Joon. If Johnny Rolle is bad for what he did to the Dwayne Powers character, Sonny should be bad for the same reason. Ranger Akers is boring and forgettable, and it was pretty much a given that he wasn't going to be the culprit. He's the Law and Order character. Sure, there's such a thing as bad cops, but Akers is played as such a total straight arrow all through the game, with no real hint that he's not, that to make him the culprit would be awful writing. But Dylan is semi-memorable as "That Indiana Jones Wannabe Character". I'd put Enrico one higher just because I've played so much Scopa with him. Jane Willoughby is the one that constantly reminds you you're in 1930. Strong and Memorable but also quirky and a little annoying. Topham's ego made him a little more interesting, and, like Toni, he's a secondary villain. I'd probably consider him 3 or 4 stars. Lukas is Strong and Memorable, but not Iconic. He's about as good as Jane. Technically this list rates the characters, but doesn't rank them.
Now, here's a thought for a video: Beefcake. Rate all the characters on their looks. Maybe for some of them, even write up paragraphs they might write if they were posting their picture on a dating website. How would Quigley describe herself if she were trying to get a date? Or Dave Gregory? Maybe something like "women generally find me hot but boring". Or Minette? I'd love to see how she glossed over some of her personality traits. "Slight anger issues". Or how she'd explain wearing a mask on a date. ("I'm Covid conscious")
Great list. I do disagree with Millie from STFD though, I think she's really entertaining lol and weird. Jane from secret of the old clock also HARD disagree. She's one of the creepiest people/culprits for me in the series
You forgot Ransom of the seven ships but sense there's only one character you interact with as Nancy and sense it's Dwayne from game two not much of a comparison I'm my opinion
Miles is an ICON thank you very much!! Also, Jacques Brunais belongs below the bottom for his out of pocket nastiness and his unfinished arc. SO funny that they remembered a giant pigeon and not the actual culprit from the same game! Love the list! looking forward to the next ranking/analysis!!!
Colton would have been sooo much more compelling if he were gay. Just switch out Alexis for Alex and add some dialogue about him lying to his family out of shame and fear. It would have made his and Jessalyn's friends-to-reluctant-lovers plotline that much more comlex and heartbreaking
Speaking of Sonny, it might be worth pointing out that this is now World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen's nickname. I've got a habit of giving nicknames to top chess players, kind of like baseball players used to have. There are people like The Painter, The Dodger, Two-Sheds, and others. But the world champion never had a nickname because I never found one that fit him. UNTIL recently, when he acquired a fangirl who would show up to chats when he was playing, and gush at him. "Brilliant game, Magnus Joon!!!!!!!!" followed by a string of heart emojis. It's hilarious seeing her on the rare occaions he loses. "Good game Magnus Joon", with no hearts, no exclams, no nothing. (I looked it up, and Joon means "dear" in Persian.) Everybody got so annoyed over it that I started trying to beat her to the punch, and post some nonsense after a game before she could, but instead of calling him "Magnus Joon", I called him Sonny Joon. "Briliant game, Sonny Joon!!!!!" (it's even funnier if the game was a draw). This led to using "Sonny" as Carlsen's all-around nickname. A few people have asked what Sonny Joon means, but I haven't found anyone yet who recognized it on their own. It is an international crowd, though, and on a German site. For all I know, Sonny Joon has a totally different name in the German version of the game. In fact, that's something to look into. I have seen pictures of non-English versions of the game, but nobody has ever mentioned whether any of the character names are changed in them.
Love this idea! Right away, when we got to the Final Scene, I was right there with you with those high rankings! I would almost be tempted to have all of them be iconic. hehe Aww Harlan!! I think he's strong and memorable. So many great lines and energy. And we see what drives him on full display. He's earnest about making up for his past, doesn't always make all of the right decisions, gets very wounded when anything in Nancy's investigation might set back his path to redemption. Lol about Ethel!!! haha Super agree with your Waverly ranking & SAW ranking. I can definitely agree that Yumi is iconic (the girl has 2 locations specifically dedicated to her!), though I realllllyyy wish they had a better voice actress for her. The accent is SOOO BAD. I feel embarrassed listening to her talk sometimes. Thank you for the Karl love! Totally agree. Your ranking of Dylan was hilarious. I love how you slowly changed it and then eventually you were just like his only character attribute is "hot." HAHA
I literally went to tiermaker and couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to do this…😩 I did enjoy your thoughts. I think I would have put a few less characters in iconic, though.
Raging at your placement of my boy Grigor 😭 lol other than that i agree with most of these. Also: I was stoked when I saw you posted a 30 min video! I am starved for more WK. The end of the school year can’t come soon enough 💜
